Copy protection… sucks

As you all know the lastes Radiohead album, ‘Hail to the Thief’ is Copy Controlled. More and more CDs are copy controlled the days. If you use an mp3 player, or if you listen to your CDs on your computer or even if you listen to them on certain hifis, copy protection will mean you will have increasingly more problems when attempting to listen to music on the device of your choice. Copy protection in its current guise is basically intentional data corruption and as a result its effectiveness is haphazard to say the least, with the innocent music buyer left to bear the brunt while the bad guys always find a way round it.

Copyprotectionsucks.co.uk concerns the alarming rise of audio CD copy protection, designed to deter illegal copying and sharing of copyrighted work, but which is having grave consequences for the way we listen to music. It should be pointed out that copyprotectionsucks.co.uk does not support the illegal copying or sharing of copyrighted work; but it does support the right to listen to music…
