Radiohead’s Oxford Playhouse performance

Members of Radiohead were joined by a star-studded cast at the Oxford Playhouse last night (May 23) as they covered ‘Love is all around’ for charity. As previously reported, drummer Phil Selway, bassist Colin Greenwood and guitarist Ed O’ Brien were set to back actor Bill Nighy for the performance in their hometown.

The song was the finale to a night of the arts at the venue which has been organised by ’Gosford Park’ actor Tom Hollander in aid of Helen House, Britain’s first children’s hospice. The hospice was founded in the ‘80s and offers respite care, terminal care and bereavement support.

Fans at the performance have told nme.com that the performance was far more chaotic than anyone would have expected. One revealed: “It was fantastic! It was right at the end of the evening, and they said for our finale we have three members of Radiohead. They started performing the song with Nighy and then all the people who had appeared earlier in the evening came onto the stage!”

Stars on the stage included comedians Steve Coogan, Griff Rhys Jones and Hugh Laurie, Mel and Sue, Jamie Theakston and Rory Bremner. [from nme.com]
