Björk on Thom Yorke
Björk was interviewed in German music magzine ‘Muzik Express’ (September 2004 issue). Here’s a translation of a part the article where Bjork talks about Thom Yorke:
In order to stop exhausting Björk with matters of the real world we for the last time move the conversation back to arts. Thom Yorke, so we tell her, claims that ever since their duet for Selmasongs he is very grateful to have learned from her not to fall into an emotional trap when singing an emotional song.
“He said that?”, she asks and calms down at once. “That is very flattering for me. And it is funny. Because I feel like I kind of learned the opposite from him. Well, maybe not the exact opposite. But I was very impressed that he took a full week to record the song although it is only three minutes long. He just wanted to hang around in the studio and sing the same bit over and over again. That is a kind of band-mentality because when you are working with others you always have to wait for precisely the right moment when everybody simultaneously are giving their best. I am used to working alone and am generally not of the opinion that something gets better if you sing it about 50 times. But Thom had just come around a difficult procedure, Radiohead had just spent a full year in the studio”, she explains and talks and talks and talks. [thanks no paranoia & cristina]
