Jonny Greenwood interview on Radio 4
Today is the world permiere of Jonny Greenwood’s ‘Popcorn Superhet Receiver’ performed by the BBC Concert Orchestra. Jonny is BBC Concert Orchestra’s composer-in-residence and this concert will be the first chapter in their three-year partnership at LSO St Luke’s in London.
Listen to an interview with Jonny Greenwood and a part of ‘Popcorn Superhet Receiver’, aired on Radio 4’s ‘Front Row’ last night. Jonny talks about some embarassing moments during rehearsals at Maida Vale when something “sounded so bad and obviously wrong”, Jonny’s inspiration for the piece (”listening to the engine noise of the car”), the Ondes Martenot (referring to the Star Trek theme) and unexpected surprises he learned while working with BBC Concert Orchestra. The interview is available at the BBC Radio 4 website (interview starts at about 9 mins).
