Thom Yorke is nominated for the Mercury Prize with his alabum The Eraser. Speaking of those awards. Mercury Music Prize nominees Hot Chip reckon Muse don’t deserve to win the award because they are Radiohead rip-offs.
Hot Chip’s ‘The Warning’ will compete with Muse’s latest album ‘Black Holes And Revelations’ when the winner of the prestigious Mercury Prize is announced next week. But founding member Joe Goddard reckons the Reading and Leeds headliners are too unoriginal to merit the £20,000 prize money.
He told the Daily Star: “I’m not a fan of Muse. They sound like a lot of artists do – like another band. I find them a bit like Radiohead.”
Goddard also had harsh word for Birmingham-based rockers Editors, whose debut LP ‘The Back Room’ is also in contention for the prize.
“I’m not a fan of Editors either,” he added. “There’s not much originality there. We don’t want a punch up – they’re probably lovely – but we’re older and wiser and could take them on. I’d like Scritti Politti to win. He’s been making music for a long time.”
