Kaiser Chiefs & Sparklehorse on ‘Radiohead tea’

Posted on February 17th, 2007.

Kaiser Chiefs’ frontman Ricky Wilson talks to The Times about their follow-up to their debut album. Kaiser Chiefs have returned with an album of more pop songs.

“Well, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the Radiohead way of doing things,” ponders Wilson. “They probably torture themselves over making a cup of tea. Which is fine. In life, there are people who torture themselves over making a cup of tea. And they end up making amazing cups of tea. But . . .”

He turns to his bandmates for assistance. As befits a true songwriting foil, Hodgson is swift to oblige. “There are different ways of making cups of tea, aren’t there? We love the taste of Radiohead’s tea.”

Sparklehorse’s Mark Linkous talked to the Northwest Herald on their latest record and mentioned Radiohead when he mentioned their producer Danger Mouse (aka Brian Burton):

I’ve toured with Radiohead in the past and we like the same electronic music. They started to incorporate more of that in their recent records, starting with “Kid A.” I wanted to do it in the arena of short, pop songs. I tried to articulate what I wanted to Brian.
