Nigel Godrich posts bits and pieces of LP7 tracks
Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich just posted the biggest tease on Radiohead’s Dead Air Space so far. The post is accompanied by a video which includes snippets of ‘Open Pick‘, ‘All I Need‘, ‘Down Is The New Up‘, ‘Arpeggi‘ and ‘Bangers ‘n Mash‘. All tracks are contenders for Radiohead’s upcoming album.
Nigel wrote the following:
If you’re having trouble viewing the video, please check the YouTube version.a bit of tape from the studio
I keep bits of tape which have been chopped out of the mixes when they were edited .. stick em on a reel.. when you play it back it sounds like.. this

totally rip-off Muse, Queen and Coldplay.
Also, how can it get people so worked up?! You can’t even hear it properly!!

0:23 to 0:28 sounds alot like ‘Hollow Man’ by Kula Shaker, it probably sounds completely different when you hear more than 5 seconds of it though…

Thom sounds right up close and personal in the mix. A la Eraser. Hmm… not sure if I’m loving that yet. I love the more ethereal, layered, mixed-in stuff (Let Down, How to Disappear). Hopefully they haven’t abandoned those epic musical vistas they navigate so beautifully! ![]()

I’m really not sure if we have to worry about Radiohead “abandoning” anything… just look at the transformations they’ve taken in the past that have always been terrific. to ask radiohead not to “abandon” something is to ask them to stop being creative. i think it sounds great.

I have to say that I’m slightly diapponted with the live versions of most of their new material. Chances are I will like it more on record due to Godrich being a living legend, but basically, what I’m trying to say is — I really hope it’s not a load of rubbish. I will cry if it is.

Hey PBP, you can go feck yourself for saying that. Firstly, Muse and Coldplay came into existence ages after Radiohead was born, and they’ve ripped off Radiohead billions of times. As for Queen, there’s nothing Queen-ish in any of those tracks except maybe for Open Pick, but that’s only cause you’ve heard 2 seconds of it. If you hate Radiohead, why don’t go to the Coldplay or Muse websites?

Um…I am shocked that people are bitching and moaning. This is wonderful. The audio is choppy (for a reason I’m sure), but what IS audible proves that LP7 is going to be a force to reckon with. OMFG, The strings on All I Need, Arpeggi…This album will blow HTTT out of the water. Haters, bitch elsewhere, get a life, and more importantly, STOP VISITING ATEASE!!! This site is for Radiohead FANS.

I’d love to hear Big Boots on LP7. That guitar riff is tasty. Fingers crossed. BIG BOOTS. BIG BOOTS. And Videotape. Yeah, that too. ![]()
Also, after actually thinking about it, I’m sure the vocal mix will be stellar (see my previous comment). I’ve come to grips with my pre-album paranoia. Just release the dammed thing!

this is the most amazing radiohead material
im dissapointed in all these wishy-washy fuckhead fans that are stupid enough to not understand this music.
These songs are so accessable that any moron off of FM radio could get into them.
pure genius.

Most FM radio is corporate rock crap. Maybe this album WILL breakthrough to those masses, if not, fuck ‘em anyway… a lot of people STILL think Radiohead is little more than a one-hit, karaoke number called Creep… sad…

The idea of making any sort of judgement on the new material based on these micro-bits is ridiculous. I’m as excited as anyone about this upcoming album but I think everyone is putting way too much stock in this quicktime file.

Muse, Queen, and Coldplay rip-offs? Coldplay and Muse would not exist without Radiohead. And Queen? There’s not a bit of Queen in there. I guess both bands use guitars?
And Adriaan I was thinking the same thing about the glockenspiel one. I’ve been listening to the new lives, but I’d never heard that one before. There’s a nice video of it on youtube. The song’s called “All I Need.”

Notice that Nigel said this is stuff that was CUT. I’d guess the rest of the tracks sound similar, but it’s neat that these are the bits left on the floor.

as i understand, liking radiohead was once “cool” and then there was a backlash (i remember reading an article about how stuck up radiohead fans are, how most people claim to like them to seem smart, back in 03. also there’s the horrible new yorker article from last summer about the lp7 taste test tour). now that liking radiohead seems to be a burning train, i’m glad. who’s been riding with the rest of us since the bends? who’s been going to concerts with creep at the back of their mind, hoping to hear snippets of amnesiac or fpt? i’m with you.

For anyone who was the shows last year, we all know the new songs are very tight. Except for maybe house of cards.
In all honesty, I dont even want to hear old stuff at the concerts anymore. Its the new stuff that is the most interesting.

for john brisbury:
just so you know…coldplay is a complete ripoff of radiohead. compare electioneering (radiohead) and twisted logic(coldplay)….practically same lyrics.
coldplay needs a bit more inspiration.
