Winner of ‘The Clock’ video contest announced

Winners of the of the contest, making a video for Thom Yorke’s ‘The Clock’, have been announced at the D&AD Global Student Awards 2007, held last night in London.

In the earlier reported video contest for ‘The Clock’, Christopher Barrett, Luke Taylor and Garath Whyte from Kingston University won the first prize. They’ll have to share the award with Scott Evans, from the University College for the Creative Arts at Farnham, who was awarded D&AD’s top student prize. Evans created a type-based promo that graphically highlighted the waste generated simply by creating and viewing a music video. Second prize went to Ravi Sohanpal from Chelsea College of Art and Design. Watch the winning videos below.

In related news, the video which Raul Gonzo made for Yorke’s ‘And It Rained All Night‘ has been entered into a video awards festival. Thom Yorke recently approved the video for official entry into CraveFest, a non-profit international music video awards festival running from August 14-17th in Toronto, Canada.

Gonzo: “Well the process started when I got ‘The Eraser’, it’s an amazing album. And Stanley Donwood, he really compliments everything that Thom Yorke and Radiohead do – I was thinking about the album a lot, and the song, and I was gonna make that video just for fun. But this was my first year teaching animation so I decided to work with a couple of the more advanced students and we worked on it together. Their names are Anthony Reeder, Josh Cooper, and Matt McCarty!”

saw these on youtube ages ago, not really a fan of either

did these videos just win points for running in the right direction as the “moral of the song”?

i didn’t see any huge artistry.

there was only one point in the second video that i seriously enjoyed. and the basis for the first video was ok, just simply environmental awareness…

    that’s it though.
