‘In Rainbows’ download available in the morning
The download of Radiohead’s new album ‘In Rainbows’ will be available tomorrow morning (UK time). It’s been rumoured that the 10 tracks are available around 10am.
The download of ‘In Rainbows’ is DRM-free, which means the tracks are not copy protected. However, the mp3’s which will be sent out in zip file are in medium quality.
As announced today in an e-mail by W.A.S.T.E.: “The album will come as 48.4MB zip file containing 10 x 160 kbps DRM free MP3’s.” For comparison, iTunes offers tracks at 128kbps (but no Radiohead of course), the Radiohead catalogue at the ateaseweb.com download store offer mp3’s at 320kbps.
Either way, the media have all anticpated on the release tomorrow. Xfm will play the album in full (42 minutes and 39 seconds) at noon (again UK time) tomorrow (more information). NME Radio will offer a stream of ‘In Rainbows’ an hour earlier. Radio AtEase will have a listening party as well. Check the message board for details.

It should be noted that the iTunes Store offers 128kbps AAC files, so the comparison in the article is misleading. 128kbps AAC is more or less equivalent to 160kbps MP3.
Still, there are only two Radiohead songs in the iTunes Store (”Lucky” and “I Want None of This”, so it’s a bit of a moot point.

Does your email have the activation code or is it just another precursor email to the code for tomorrow?

I just got my e-mail (which is just a precursor and doesn’t contain the activation code) hours later than my friends at about 8:30 pm Eastern time in Canada. However, I did write to them to tell them I hadn’t received an e-mail before, so maybe write to waste.

I got my e-mail at like 4-5 p.m. EST and I’m staying up later in hopes to get my activation code before I go to bed. Not sure how well that will work out for me but fingers crossed!

I got the download and am pleasantly suprised of its beauty and great decision to leave the crushing and crippling effects music companies have on the talents that musicians want to portray of their own music. GOOD FOR YOU RADIOHEAD!!! We as fans must support this type of way that will excite great talents who want to make their own form of music. I bought the boxset and will continue to support this way of “Business”. I love you you Radiohead and thank you for giving me an outlet to praise the Lord and to take my mind off the pains of life and replace them with goodness and grace of your beautiful voice and the talent of the band. Viva La Radiohead!!!

I’m in the eastern US. I haven’t got
the email. I’m gritting my teeth.
What to do, what to do…I checked my junk
mail folder…nothing. It’s been far too
long. I’m fearing for the safety of those
in my general vicinity.
I could go mad at a moment’s notice.
