‘Jigsaw Falling Into Place’ set for single release
Radiohead’s first single from new album ‘In Rainbows’ will be ‘Jigsaw Falling Into Place‘ on January 14. The album however will actually get a physical release on CD and vinyl just before the end of the year.
The album will now be released through XL Recordings on December 31. Meanwhile, the band have distanced themselves from reports that most people who downloaded the record did so for free and took advantage of Radiohead’s offer to let fans name their own price.
“In response to purely speculative figures announced in the press regarding the number of downloads and the price paid for the album, the group’s representatives would like to remind people that, as the album could only be downloaded from the band’s website, it is impossible for outside organisations to have accurate figures on sales,” they explained.
The statement added: “However, they can confirm that the figures quoted by the company comScore Inc are wholly inaccurate and in no way reflect definitive market intelligence or, indeed, the true success of the project.” [source: NME]

And radio exposure, I guess, but when has Radiohead ever cared about that.

It should have been noted previously that the comScore “survey” was based on a few 100 persons and therefore statistically meaningless…

This means b-sides!

the point is that it’s the album on cd…and therefore in cd quality rather than 160kbps downloads. plus the album deserves a proper release to..of course.

People who paid for the download should get a discount off of the CD.
I’m disappointed they are choosing that song as the single. There are far better songs that are more single worthy on the album, if you ask me.

cant wait for the release
does anyone know if we will just the 10 songs on cd, or the 10 songs plus the 8 extra songs?

The point would absolutely by for b-sides!
As for the response about that sales figure. Radiohead sure know how to handle the media.

…and to further Kristopher’s comment, fans that bought the discbox should have first dibs on concert tickets.

the b-sides better not be a couple of songs from the second disc from the discbox…

I think it’s likely that the bsides are just tracks from the 2nd cd.

I can see why this track is being selected as a single. It’s because it’s the most commercial track on the album and will be able to make non-fans realise what they’ve been missing out on better than any other track on the album though I personally wouldn’t say this is the best track of the album.

Hopefully we’ll get some other tracks as B-Sides on the Jigsaw single. But doesn’t anybody else think it’s a little odd to release it on such a hectic day of the year as New Year’s Eve? Won’t everyone be out getting pissed?

That report did strike me as ridiculous.-awesome.
Also I don’t think the CD will have all 18 tracks.. that would defeat the object of it being a bonus disk

Good choice. Jigsaws is the most catchy track on the album in my opinion, great lyrics too, it should get them some well deserved radio airplay.

I thought BODYSNATCHERS was the first single. It’s been playing on the radio for quite some time now in my city

Yeah I always had Bodysnatchers or Nude pegged as singles. And if not them maybe Reckoner or 15 step. I never thought this one would be. Its not really single material imo. Wonder why they’re releasing a single. *hopes for lots of B sides* After all, there were loads of songs on that chalkboard that didnt see either album release.

‘4 Minute Warning’ would be the biggest-selling Radiohead single of all time. If they wanted to have Coldplay-ish airplay, win Grammys, they’d have put it on ‘IR’ and done a video and we’d all eb eharing it in every Starbucks.

So what about these figures anyway? We
all know that the album will go to
number one both sides of the atlantic
as soon as it gets its physical release.
I paid nothing, I used bit-torrent to
download my copy for free, then after I
heard it, I ordered the discbox. It’s
a near perfect album. Only it will be
absolutley perfect on vinyl ![]()

Oh, come on, guys. Let’s face it. None of the songs on the album are going to top the Billboard 100. However, I do think it was a good choice for a single as it’s positively infectious and catchy. Yeah, Bodysnatchers is getting airplay, but it’s too soaked in distortion to be a “hit”.
But, Radiohead don’t write songs solely to top the charts (like, maybe, Coldplay). And, yeah, I like them releasing it on CD due only to the better quality. I probably still won’t buy it, as I’m going to purchase the discbox…actually, I might anyway…I work at a music store, I get a discount, so…

4 Minute Warning would be a terrible single. It’s definitely the worst song out of all 18 tracks on In Rainbows and the bonus disc (well, unless MK1 & 2 are absolute shit)
I wouldn’t have picked Jigsaw but at least they’re putting a single out. If they do a second it should be All I Need or Nude. I pray for b-sides, after all we still have to hear stuff like Burn The Witch!

I love this song,
And it’s definitely the most accesible.
Plus, it’s very artistic,
And the strings in it are amazing.
As for b-sides,
maybe…. spooks?!

Kristopher…I disagree. A single needs to be accessible to the general public, and Jigsaw Falling Into Place is a) the right length for radio and b) has the most conventional song structure on the album with enough energy and major chords to sustain the interest of the average radio listener. Bodysnatchers is really the only other song on the album that is releasable as a single. Agreed, those aren’t my favorite songs on the album, but when I first heard Jigsaw I immediately thought…”and here’s the single.”
