‘Paranoid Android’ tops Ultimate Radiohead Top 20

Radiohead fans have voted ‘Paranoid Android’ as their top favourite song. The track from ‘OK Computer’ was number 1 in the Ultimate Radiohead Top 20, which was broadcast on Phoenix FM tonight.

‘Paranoid Android’ topped the list in the previous edition (2005) as well, when ateaseweb.com and Phoenix FM first asked Radiohead fans for their all-time-favourites. The ‘OK Computer’ album is represented in the Top 20 with 8 tracks. For the first time, fans could vote for tracks from new album ‘In Rainbows’. 3 of those tracks (Weird Fishes/Arpeggi, Nude and Reckoner) made it to the Top 20. Forthcoming single ‘Jigsaw Falling Into Place’ almost made it, but got stuck at 21. The track which Radiohead is most known for, ‘Creep’ surprisingly didn’t make the list. Niether did the other tracks from Radiohead’s debut album ‘Pablo Honey’.

    That’s a nice list

  • pixilated

    only one song from amnesiac???
i might be wrong should be one there too

  • pixilated

    but yeah. nice list. :)

  • Karel

I miss Life in a Glasshouse, Just and Who and Whose Army but again a very nice list. :)

  • Karel

    You and Whose Army obviously…

  • Mimmo

Hmmm..Just didn’t make it. About as good as
a pop tune RH have done. Good list
    though.

  • http://myspace.com/priyahp Priya

loving the list, i might be wrong should be on there! impressed with reckoner being on there! *smiles*

  • foie-gras style

not a bad list. i’m liking HTDC up there. and love that there’s no creep.

  • Jami

Lovely list I must say. So happy that Let Down made te list. Favorite. :)

  • mjd180 (continued)

I’ll never understand the popularity of “The National Anthem”. Can someone explain it to me? It’s the same fuzz bass riff, over and over, for like 5 minutes. I know Thom likes it a lot. What am I missing?

  • Scott Pugnetti

That would be one hell of a setlist…..

  • fred from Quebec

for sure…scott but i think with a playlist like that, i will never make it trough all the concert alive…

  • Muldfeld

Not a big fan of There There, Everything in Its Right Place, 2+2=5, but it’s pretty good. Glad to have Arpeggi, which I assume sounds great, having not heard the album yet. Bit bored of OK Computer right now, but Airbag and Let Down are always favorites. HTDC and Idioteque are happily high up.

  • Sunny

too much ok computer, not enough of the rest. meh

  • Cat

i might be wrong was my #1. ok list though.

” The track which Radiohead is most known for, ‘Creep’ surprisingly didn’t make the list. ”

I don’t think that statement’s true anymore. Now they’re most known for self-releasing an album online. :P

  • Hojo

great list, and i agree that it would be the most incredible earth shattering, life altering set list!!! thank you Radiohead for bringing such magic to our lives…

  • Peregrine

Glad to see Climbing Up the Walls on there.

  • walrus say

No pablo honey and rightly so.

  • Jos

has anyone posted the enhanced material from cd2?

  • Matt Robinson

I’m pretty upset that Subterranean Homesick Alien wasn’t up there!!!! What?! Same goes for Like Spinning Plates. Those songs are key.

  • spikespiegel

‘Just’ is screaming to be on this list. Glad to see ‘Let Down’ high up , its my personal fave, and HTDC. High & Dry should be on too, it’s a great pop tune. Idioteque should be lower, and Everything In..(which is over-rated). Need another from Amnesiac – i’d say Life in A Glass House. National Anthem should be higher. I’d replace Climbing Up for Fitter Happier (just for its perfect lyrics). The In Rainbows choices are on the mark. Tis a great setlist.

What I would like to know is what the amount of votes each song got and the percentage it recieved. From the List, it looks like 21 number ones in my book of Radiohead.

  • Raymond Swartz

I know this is about the list of Radiohead songs but… Phoenix FM needs to put the times they are going to be playing over the continents of each country… In USA and America its one day behind and 8 hours behind(Pacific Standard Time)… If they want to be heard around the world and anounce their station… Than keep us informed than just the information needed if I was in your back yard! Such Arses or you shites or whatever you guys say to get someones attention. I would love to hear Radiohead and even promote your station but I have no clue when you’re playing the List and went to your website and am lost.

  • http://www.ateaseweb.com adriaan

Raymond, it was announced before that the list was going to broadcast at 6pm UK time.

  • Diego

Love the list, love gthe new album. BUT, nobody here misses more of The Bends???? two song is not enough…Just, Blackstar…

  • a pig in a cage on antibiotics

“My Iron Lung” ? I can’t believe it… “Planet Telex” ? Well, maybe too much of a personal choice, that one… But gosh, why isn’t there “Like Spinning Plates” in there ?? Great, great mistake.

  • a pig in a cage on antibiotics

    Nice list, tough.

  • http://freerice.com Pranav

    I feel Bulletproof..i wish i was ,Fog & may be Scatterbrain deserved a position,anywyz a nice playlist…

  • Olh

If you can choose a single RH track that you think is the best, can you really call yourself a RH fan?

  • Snag

why has the top 20 got 21 tracks in ? :$

  • Craig

    Where is Kid A?

  • mark

Good list. Love to see How to Disappear so high…
Would have liked to see some others on there however, specifically more from the bends, like (nice dream), just, planet telex. Also, maybe some b-sides (fog, palo alto…). And finally, where is True Love Waits????

  • Chris

let down sucks, what the fuck. same with street spirit. android deserves the top spot, though.

  • Cacophonaut

A surprising amount of songs from In Rainbows.

  • trine

and the surprising amount is ponder on the unfair fact that we just have been given IR. I have not listened to it enough yet – I don’t get how many persons can be so certain about the factthat songs from IR are their favourites.

but it might be because i’m only listening to amnesiac/kid a these days…

  • Darren Ladbury

nah there’s a lot of songs that are missing from the list. Creep should defo be in top 20.

I also think How to dissapear completely doesnt deserve top 20 let alone no#2

  • T-Cap

Let’s face it, OK Computer is their best album. Every song is a classic. So, the fact that there are a lot of songs from that album should not be surprising. I’m very glad Pyramid Song was in the top five, that’s my number 1. I’m kind of surprised at Lucky, as it’s one of the weaker ones on that disc…I feel that My Iron Lung, Optimistic, and Bodysnatchers should have made it…maybe even Sail to the Moon. But, let’s face it, Radiohead, other than Pablo Honey, have yet to make one bad song. Just one. (Okay, India Rubber is a tad annoying…)

To the person dissing Let Down and Street Spirit…those songs are both classsics, and even if you don’t like them, it’s common knowledge that they are fan favorites (and Street Spirit was a chart hit), so their inclusion shouldn’t be surprising.

  • Darren Ladbury

    My List would be:

    1. Idioteque
    2. Paranoid Android
    3. 2+2=5
    4. Creep
    5. Everything in its right Place
    6. A Punch up at a wedding
    7. Exit Music (for a film)
    8. Karma Police
    9. Morning Bell
    10. The Bends
    11. I Might Be Wrong
    12. Just
    13. Nude
    14. Lucky
    15. Subterranean Homesick Alien
    16. Street Spirit
    17. Pyramid Song
    18. Stand Up, Sit Down
    19. No Surprises
    20. My Iron Lung

  • http://www.myspace.com/elitebanda imatumbler

no surprises is too low on the list

  • http://www.myspace.com/lehaneb Bill, Dublin

Great list, would be hard to go wrong
really. I would have preferred more
    old stuff, though. ‘Stop Whispering’
as the first political Radiohead song!
And ‘True Love Waits’ too, power in its
simplicity like so much of the new
    album. Best wishes. Bill

  • http://www.whoisskillen.co.uk Stevie K

Pretty good list, would like to see the one, two power house from the Bends that is Just and My Iron Lung and also Like Spinning Plates. Never really understood the appeal of How to Disappear, personally I think Pyrimid Song is much better.

  • Donovan

Very good list. My only surprise is Let Down being so high on the list. I like the song, I just didn’t know so many other people liked it. The top 2 are perfect, and those who don’t like HTDC, can simply disappear.

  • http://jtylerhelms.com JT

Paranoid Andriod… definitely RH’s magnum opus.

  • Frank

uhh…Where’s KNIVES OUT? and personally, THE NATIONAL ANTHEM is my favorite Radiohead Track. Decent list, not the greatest, but decent.

  • lausi

i don´t understand why there almost isn´t any of the new stuff in the list. they should have waited with the ranking a bit till the discbox is out. down is the new up and bangers n mash would have to appear in the list then…

  • Julia C.

where is IN LIMBO you guys?

  • Fi3nD

‘All I Need’ Of In Rainbows deserves
to be in the damn list !!
