beck’s stickers were better.

beck’s album was removed from the album charts due to an ‘unfair advantage’ in terms of sales, this could be heading radiohead’s way…

this is cool, and i don’t think radiohead cares what album charts do, i mean, come on, leaving a record label….would they really care???!!!

Very cool. I like it!

Well…I hope the retail version isn’t just a bunch of stickers…cause, I liked Beck’s album that did the same thing, but I didn’t really like the packaging, I thought it was stupid. I hope I won’t have to reuse an old jewelcase…I’d rather it come in a digipack.

LAME!

Damn Right
December 14th, 2007

As long as it comes with the jewel case then I guess this is kind of cool. I’m assuming they’re doing it to save money, or cut back on energy costs to package it in a factory. Looking forward to buying it regardless.

If the stickers are to be applied to the exterior of the jewel case, they’ll get hacked, thereby eliminating one of the most important functions of the jewel case: to protect the artwork!

Also, most jewel cases manufactured by, say, EMI, are far superior to ones you can buy in the store, since they hold the CD in better. This is bloody annoying.

It’s a cool idea, but you’d think the magical white-gloved hands would be able to put the stickers on straight… since … you know… This is an advertisement and all..

Kids will like it.

Dang, this means I’ll have to buy two; and that means, I’ll have three copies In Rainbows, including the diskbox. Ah to be a Radiohead fan. I’m just glad that the stupid EMI giftbox isn’t worth the money.

@ Muldfeld
You are officially the whiniest baby on atease. It’s just a freakin’ jewel case, man. You act like jewel cases are an endangered species or something. They’re everywhere. They’re incredibly easy to find. This is not rocket science. You sound like a crying immature little baby.

i wish the ad focused more on the music instead of the cheesy stickers. this is not a sticker kind of album.

December 14th, 2007

Hey, Frogchronot, I think that was intentionally done as a joke; I thought it was kinda funny, but, since this could easily happen, it just shows what a hassle it’s going to be.

Evil Homer, my point is that jewel cases are cheaper in quality in stores and that it’s an added hassle and defeats to whole purpose of environmental activism. Also, this new packaging idea defeats the whole purpose of traditional jewel case packaging; first, by having the stickers on the surface so they degrade from friction, coffee stains, or mishandling, as when you move — typical wear and tear; and second, by not protecting the package when it arrives in stores or through direct mail delivery. Lots of copies will get dented or broken and people will want replacements. My jewel case copies of OK Computer and HTTT will last a lot longer than I Might Be Wrong or Com Lag, which will only make me buy more copies.

So, I am whining, but it’s an intelligent set of points.

Well,
If you really want to go in radiohead’s philosophy and reduce energy costs… If you already HAVE the album… Do not buy it again !!

Anybody whining about quality of jewel cases, or lack of extra ones to use, should get some sort of “most annoying/lamest complaint of the year award”…

Album’s by some of the greatest artists of all time, have been airing on TV since the 70’s. Get out from under that rock!

December 15th, 2007

I’d prefer normal packaging. I like that cd’s have an iconic and consistent image; the cover of OK Computer means a lot to me, it represents the album. Stickers are like an artist selling a blank canvas with paints and putting their name on it, then the person get’s to screw it up, yay! I guess there is always the boxset.

Justin
December 15th, 2007

I agree that the ad could focus more on the music and not the stickers…

i just dont like it. stanley’s art combined with the music is a very integral part of the experience. this takes away a bit.

brian
December 16th, 2007

It’s hardly like the Beck album. That had a blank sleeve, well plain graph paper, an a wide variety of stickers; the idea being that you create your own unique sleeve. This appears to be one clear stiker with the title for the front, track listing for the back and 2 spine stickers (presumably saying “Radiohead - In Rainbows”). The Donwood artwork will be in the booklet that fits inside the jewel case so no Donwood art will be compromised. Andd, as someone else wisely pointed out, everyone as at least one shit embarrassing CD.
And personally I’ve never bought a blank jewel case that’s been damaged but I have bought proper CDs where the inside of the case is damaged (inc. my Japanese Bends).

Hummm… o welll.
I have loved radiohead for a long time
now, and i am also probably the only
person in the world who has not heard
the whole IN RAINBOWS album yet.
I am sad to say im not very excited about it
but that could all change once i hear it.
As for the stickers, well i suppose its a
neat idea, but I probably won’t even put
them on.
