‘In Rainbows’ enters UK chart at number 1

Radiohead’s ‘In Rainbows’ already had a narrow lead in the midweek album charts, but now the band’s seventh album has ended on the number 1 spot in the UK charts.

Radiohead took over from Leona Lewis’ ‘Spirit, which dropped to the number 3 position. Take That’s ‘Beautiful World’ was also a contender for the top spot, but lost to ‘In Rainbows’ today. Due to a slow week with album releases, ‘In Rainbows’ was the only new entry in the charts.

‘In Rainbows’ is also the top selling album on the UK iTunes chart, as well as in France, Australia, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Japan, New Zealand and Portugal. Number 2 in the USA, Sweden and Switzerland. Number 3 in Germany, Austria, Spain and Norway. In Belgium and The Netherlands ‘In Rainbows’ ranked at number 4 on Apple’s digital charts.

Isn’t it weird that so many people pay an itunes-price, when you already could’ve downloaded it for less??

  • gucci little piggy

yes, and the money would’ve gone directly to the band rather than steve jobs! also isn’t itunes stuff encoded at 128 bpm anyways, lower than the waste-download at 160 bpm. ideal choice is definitely cd/vinyl

they better be number 1 since they have the only new big record out this release date.. but i dont think in rainbows sold that many its 1st week.

  • matt

@gucci little piggy: you mean kbps; changing every track to the same bpm would be very strange indeed…

  • Insect in the Night

It’s funny…some people said that because of the download, the album itself wouldn’t sell in the shops…

    Boooyah!

I’m guessing the sales have been poor compared to previous RH albums.

It only *just* got to #1 in the slowest week of the year for new releases.

    Well done

    Hi to all!
Today I bought my own IN_RAINBOWS.
    :)

14ł wasn’t that cheap for it, but I can still be happy for being able to buy it in my country (Hungary).

I don’t know how you feel it, but I really like this original package, and I’m not planning to put it into an old CD case.

    Cheers!

IR just kicked Alicia Keys from #1 on Swedish iTunes. :)

Yes Fastnet because sales of this
    album, which was previously available
for free, are obviously directly comparable
    with the other albums.

    Or not.
