Wow, thats a late UK release. Saw it here in the States and its great. You guys tell me what you think, but I sorta think the music is great too, but often misplaced. Sometimes the music is used to create some artificial tension thats not really there.
One could also argue that the music doesn’t match the period.

Great film - remarkable performance by Daniel Day Lewis. I don’t agree with NSFW’s take on the music. It was jarring at times, but very effective. I felt that the director and Greenwood were trying to take the audience beyond a typical period or historical film, really inside the mind of the main character.

I could be wrong, but for me, taken from that perspective, the music - and the tension it evoked - was spot on. Often creepy, but spot on. This is a compelling, literary film, but not necessarily “entertainment. ” Does that make sense? I recommend it highly.

I agree with oneman completely. This is definitely a character study first and foremost and those looking for a story carried by events may be disappointed. I think the film ranks high among other great character studies in the tradition of Taxi Driver, and the performance given by Daniel Day Lewis is both enthralling and heartbreaking at times. A must see for anyone disappointed by most mainstream cinema.
