Breakbeat duo wait for OK Radiohead

Posted on February 3rd, 2008.

Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip are seeking Radiohead’s permission to use a sample from The Bends on their forthcoming debut album.

The pair are currently in talks with the Oxford five-piece’s former record company over clearance for the pair’s track Letter From God (To Man).

The song, which was unofficially released as a free download single over the Christmas period, heavily samples Planet Telex, the opening track on Radiohead’s second album The Bends.

Despite the download release, bearded frontman Scroobius Pip told BBC Newsbeat they still have to get Parlophone to approve it before they can include it on their as-yet-untitled album.

He said: “We’re in the process of getting clearance from Radiohead. It’s really good because they’ve heard it and given their authorisation so we’re really pleased. That means a lot to us, even if we never get to release it.

“We do just feel really grateful and privileged that they’ve said that. So now we’re going to the label and sorting out the publishing and all that.”

Another rubbish use of a Radiohead sample. Can’t these hiphop guys write their own tunes?

i heard them play this live at maida vale last wednesday. it was amazing and it’s much more worthy than some cover version (mark ronson).
the guys have real talent and i disagree wtih deano’s comment - they do write their own tunes, the use of the sample is well thought out and the lyrics totally blow you away when you stop and think about them for a second.
i hope parlophone grant permission. there would be no point in denying it, surely?

Farewell To Arms

Well it’s been really nice not knowing you
Thank God we never met
A man for all seasons, well that’s a laff
Cause you’re about as last season as they get

Tilting at landfills in a climate of change
You ain’t no Sancho Panza, this ain’t no home on the range
With message board shallows and other such inconsequentials
All shiny surface but lacking in the essentials

So give a girl a mask and she’ll tell you the truth
That cuts right through from the foundations to the roof
Just so ahead of the game, I was here before I arrived
And given the untimely paradox, it’s a miracle that I survived

So how dare you cast aspersions on my upstanding character
You’ve sunk so low that I just can’t find the right nomenclature
To adequately describe the multiple dimensions of your spite
So I’ll borrow a biro from Biffy Clyro, put pen to paper and write

About how you bring to mind so much cheap TV science fiction
Bleaks 7 and The Infernal Eternals, armed with your gloomy predictions
With your fake plastic spaceship and your poor old hapless crew
Cruising around all 9 levels of hell whilst taking in the view

So how about this for a major corporeal shake up
All smoke and mirrors and maybe some Maybelline make up
I’m no more than a highly polished reflector, holding a looking glass up to you
So if you don’t like what you see in me, then you’ll know exactly what to do

And lucky for you that I’m not one for bearing grudges
Or for letting foolish pride stand in the way
So let’s turn the page and simply press erase
Now is a present so come let’s seize the day

Forgiveness is the highest form of Justice
A basic requirement for balancing the scales
And love and compassion for our friends and foes alike
Provides the wind beneath our sails

Love this song, it’s great when artist create something great from a radiohead sample, like Plan B, still not a fan of the Mark Ronson version of Just though. Planet Telex beat, however was screaming for a remix.

I’m not particularly fond of their song with the Planet Telex sample, though I think the lyrics are straight out fresh to the ear and the overall use of the sample is inspired.

But on their website they have another song streaming, “Thou Shalt Always Kill” .. now that’s definitely a song I’d buy. Overeager and repulsive fans of Radiohead can even find the Radiohead namedropping in that one.

Anyway..
