Radiohead said all along that a physical release was planned for after the digital one.

The whole thing wasn't a big 'fuck you' to the industry... it was just a sideways step to try new avenues

Who ever heard of an album that wasn't physically obtainable. That would be so bad. That's like writing a book and only releasing it over the internet in like a PDF file or something, that's no good, you need to be able to flick those pages man. Otherwise it almost ain't real.

They said they released a physical album because they knew that everyone does not have an internet connection. To not do so would be pretentious.

Ditto. How is a physical release hypocritical? Radiohead made no pretentions about anything really. They just offered their album at whatever price folks were willing to pay. I'm glad they had a physical release. Screw that purely digital crap. I hate that stuff. As Radiohead said, by only having it available online, they were excluding many people who don't have high speed internet and the most up-to-date computers. I hate listening to music from my computer.

I don't think it was hypocritical at all, they were just trying something new, and always had the intention of releasing it as a physical release. They know in order to sell really well, you still need to release it physically. Not everyone in this world is tied to the computer 24/7 or even has an mp3 player.
