Radiohead to play Golden Gate Park Festival?

Posted on February 22nd, 2008.

More on Radiohead and festivals. After yesterday’s publication of the headlining shows at the New Jersey’s All Points West Festival, Radiohead are likely to perform at the Golden Park Festival on the other US coast.

An industry source confirmed the headliners for what will be called the “Outside Lands Festival” in Golden Gate Park to SF Weekly. The festival slated for August 22-24 will have Radiohead, Tom Petty, and Jack Johnson as headliners for the San Francisco event. SF Weekly: The order of headliners each night is still unknown. Tickets are not on sale yet. The source, who operates outside the festival organization and who requested anonymity, says the massive four-stage, 160,000-person inaugural Festival represents a huge coup for local promoting powerhouse Another Planet Entertainment (in conjunction with Superfly), as well as a major boost to San Francisco’s festival profile. Outside Lands will come just weeks before the highly esteemed Treasure Island Music Festival.”

In the meantime, dates for the Los Angeles shows are rumoured for August 24 and 25. [thx Sean & Tyler]

I feel badly for the fans in the festival areas, who might have fewer formal Radiohead-only concerts in exchange for the festival dates. Festivals suck. The lukewarm fans and non-fans screw up the atmosphere and people talk during the songs and are more likely to act obnoxiously and engage in idiotic activity.

Well… I’d rather see them do a solo date, but it IS nice to hear that a high-profile festival will be debuting in S.F.. Festivals can certainly suck, but if they’re handled right (like Treasure Island last year), they can also be great. Landing Radiohead is a very good start. :-)

Don’t bash the festivals. I have seen the head 5 times and Bonnaroo wasthe most intimate, head spinning show and I had 90,000 people behind me and my friends for that one. The band seems to like the festival. Give it a try- then knock it if you like

Festival may be ok, last time I saw them it was actually during such an event.

But here, hugh… It will be awesome, GGPark is so cute !

Damn I’ll not be there at that time, that really sucks !
