Remix ‘Nude’ for Radiohead
In a message posted on Dead Air Space today, Radiohead invites you to remix the band’s new single: ‘Nude’.
Radiohead have broken up the song ‘Nude’ into pieces for you to remix. For those of you who enjoy this sort of thing, you can buy the separate components or ’stems’ (bass, voice, guitar, strings/FX and drums) and remix your own version of the song. You can do this by adding your own beats and instrumentation or just remixing the original parts.
You can buy the stems and upload your finished mixes at www.radioheadremix.com and be judged and even voted on by ‘the public’. You can also create a widget allowing votes from your own website, Facebook or MySpace page to be sent through too.

I’m a bit appalled that they are selling the pieces.
WTF?!?!?!?!?!??!!?
This is very un-radiohead and I don’t even have EMI to blame.

Go to iTunes, you’ll see you can really buy that at 0,99 each track.
This is uncredible, do they really need some more cash ???

I’ll believe it when someone actually BUYS it. Just because it’s there doesn’t mean it’s true.

You can listen to the individual tracks and buy them. Some guys of the MB already bought them

This looks pretty real, sorry to disappoint everyone. And I’m going to have to go with Isaac on this one. Nine Inch Nails released raw audio tracks for free, Radiohead is using a proprietary format and making you pay for them. In fairness, this venture is an obvious XL/iTunes thing rather than a band thing, but it’s still a load of crap.

Hat to say this guys… but it’s all real. I think the joke in this is that Radiohead probably didn’t want to go through with this but were forced and so decided to do it all today so that it seemed like a joke… if you get what I mean.
But yeah.. real guys, you pay your money, you get the stems, they work fine.

Singing Soldier/Warpbot,
Please don’t make excuses for Radiohead, good god. Now that you guys can’t blame EMI for everything you need to just take a deep breath and realize that Radiohead are behind this and that’s that. Even the message on iTunes describing all of it appears to have been written by the. The whole point of leaving EMI was to have full control over everything themselves so just accept it and take the good with the bad.

This struck me as more of a “pay to take part in our fun little game” kind of thing, rather than “pay for little bits of our song cos we’re Radiohead”.

hello all.
i agree that it sucks to buy the tracks, but it’s probably to avoid having people that don’t care too much doing shitty remixes.

Ticket prices, and now they’re selling stems of Nude. What’s the point ? Probably their worst idea ever. This is just stupid. They allow people to get the album for free, and then they sell parts of Nude for the price of a track each !!
I was interested in trying to do a remix, but i think i’ll just illegally download the stems, and everyone should do so.

79p for part of a track? We thought it was an April the 1st joke but alas no. Nine Inch Nails offered all the remixing parts to their last few singles for FREE. Radiohead’s website also offers a ‘widget’ for you to place your remix on your MySpaz, or Faceache site. Free advertising for them? I’m starting to query Radiohead’s sincerity and all this after they left ‘greedy’ EMI. Better have some answers from them soon, or they’re going to lose some good fans.

I don’t mind the paying for the stems but the fact that they’re in a proprietary format, m4a, just sucks! I own Pro Tools and it would make sense for me or anyone who uses any DAW, Pro Tools or not, to have these stems in WAVE or AIFF. Anyone know a good way to convert these without too much digital weirdness from the conversions?

I like the idea, and have found some great remixes. My favorite remixes so far are Jon Mattox:

and Adonis:

vote for them!

After letting people thing about how much an album is worth, I find it rather strange to be selling stems, each for the price of a full song!
I say “strange”, but “disappointing” is probably more apropriated, as long as a song (already bought by fans) is an “addition” of stems, which means they exist anyway and don’t cost anything to produce… or am I getting something wrong?
