Liars in awe: ‘Oh Radiohead…’

Posted on May 23rd, 2008.

Radiohead LiarsLiars have supported Radiohead on their past 8 tour dates in North America. The band posted their appreciation and admiration for the band on their MySpace Blog.

OH RADIOHEAD…

In a world full of fear and ripe with insincerity its such a relief to have met Radiohead.
They are purveyors of truth, beauty and a moral responsibility to the planet.
We’ve been welcomed with literal open ams and thoroughly schooled
on how to function as a band -not just musically, but ethicly too.
The honor is in learning from the best and from the beginning we’ve been in class.
The important thing for us to make clear is just how awe inspiring this production is.
We’re not sure if there’s any information made public about the efforts
Radiohead go to to reduce their environmental impact.
But, there should be.
At the outset we were all given tour water flasks.
Plastic anything is like contraband.
Every bus and truck runs on bio-fuel.
There is no idling, rather some new-fangled way to deliver electricity cleanly.
They don’t do air-freight either.
The list goes on..
Everything is supremely managed to reduce the ‘footprint’
and it’s inspiring in that its ‘real’ and should set the standard for other big productions.
This all goes beyond the immediate impact of simply
being able to watch these 5 guys perform together each night.
Unlike any band we’ve seen they all contribute such an immense amount to the outcome.
Their extreme individual talents blending so naturally.
To witness this first-hand is an education in musicianship and vision
that’s certainly not been lost on us..
For now, we’d like to send our huge thanks to the Radiohead crew
for being so super crazy nice and supportive to us.
We’ll see them in Spain again for the Daydream Festival
and ofcourse during our West Coast tour with Radiohead in August -
so no tears yet..
We Liars head to Europe now…
following a luxurious 2 day break and will be re-tracing
some of the steps missed due to the euphoria of living in rainbows.

Love and Lobsters,
LIARS

Awesome. I love Liars.

Radiohead can float on magic carpets, it doesn’t matter. As long as venues like VA aren’t prepared for a rain storm and have 5000 cars idling for a few hours trying to get in..the war is lost.

That maybe right, but it’s a start.. If everybody says “oh my impact is’nt that big”, we’re going nowhere. Maybe it will make some people think. So in my opinion it does mater.

I thought the Liars put on fucking brilliant show. I’ve never seen a opening band that caught my attention like they did. I am loving liars. I can’t wait till they come back on the east coast for a tour again. I love the albums “Drums Not dead”

completely agree with you.

I was disappointed to see that many of the venues are just unreachable with public transport. Anyway, playing in Atlanta or Dallas is like deciding to have 100% of the fans coming there with cars, as long as that’s just the way it works over there!

I think its rather pathetic for you people to act like the “war is lost”. Radiohead isn’t fighting a war at this point im sure theyd like to but all they can do for now until more people listen to them or people spewing the same ideals is their part. There is absolutely no way for them to do everything 100 percent efficiently they can’t make any of you take public transportation or carpool they can ask you too and try and help you too which they did and then do their part. IF you would like the band can never play a live show again and send everything out on webcams for the world to see. I for one would never want such a thing so just give it a rest with trying to discredit their efforts. For instance idiot saying 5000 cars sitting idling for a few hours? Did the cars need to be idling could you have possibly turned your car off if you were going nowhere? that is your own problem your own fault, the biggest problem in this whole global warming problem is people like you trying to discredit the people who are atleast making an effort, your just as bad if not worse then the people would couldn’t care less, atleast they are staying out of it completely rather then getting involved only to the point of telling someone else their efforts are meaningless.
Shame on you

also people need to understand america is not made like europe to be completely accessible via train or bus. YOu would be very hard pressed to find any venue that you could reach only or public transportation in the United states, when someone goes to a show out of town or even for instance me living 45 mins outside of detroit like most people living in suburbs anytime i want to see a good show i generally have to drive to detroit. Their is NO possible way for everyone to get to a show by public transportation in this country unless they live in the exact city and it is a big city, we dont even have public transportation in a single city within 20 mins of where i live. It’s just how america is designed, so the band is really backed into an impossible corner on this one which is why they did things like special parking for people with 4 or more people carpooling in a car. In america going to a show for most people carpooling is about the best they can do and i think any decision to encourage that by the band is worth respecting and acnowledging

I do know how it works in America, speaking of transportation. That’s why I was astouned that Radiohead decided to go to America, first thing.

Let’s face it: either you make the effort of reducing your impact AND can count on a system that exists (like in european cities), or you make the effort without an efficient public transport network… and it’s a bit useless!

it hurts to say that, because I LOVE Radiohead and think that it is great that they try to get this message through. It’s just that I didn’t understand the american part of the plan…

just for the person calling me a jackass for complaining about playing at venues that require cars to idle for hours… I don’t own a motor vehicle and plan to get to the radiohead show in another state than mine (NJ) via public transportation. I’ve owned a car in the past but have made a conscious choice to live in cities were one is not required.
The problem I have is not with the 5000 cars idling or playing in cities where obviously everyone owns a car..but that radiohead thinks just because they are saving 50 gallons of gas through some environmental friendly methods we should be in awe. Its the 50,000 gallons of gas that were used by the fans that is the problem. So like I said.. radiohead can arrive on magic carpets. It doesn’t solve anything. Radiohead are not going to get subway lines built in Dallas.

Since we’re talking “carbon footprint” here, it’s worth noting that driving your car is only the tip of the iceberg in terms of environmental impact. Consuming less electricity, reducing your consumption of consumer goods, buying locally produced foods and products, eating less meat or no meat, walking or bicycling whenever possible, carpooling, using public transportation when available — all this and and a lot more makes a big difference. The fact is that if the rest of the world consumed the planet’s resources at the rate Americans do, we’d need six Earths to supply everyone. Well we’ve only got one, and that means it’s incumbent on Americans to cut back. You can argue with me, you can complain about Radiohead’s insufficient efforts (a scurrilous accusation) but you can’t change reality, so you’d better deal with it. And the reality is that we all have to be conscious of the impact we’re having and change our behavior to protect our habitat. This isn’t for the benefit of the trees or the polar bears — it’s for OUR benefit. Believe me, if we can’t change, if we are unwilling to negotiate our lifestyles, we will doom future generations. I’m glad Radiohead is sounding the alarm; I just hope you’re listening.

I agree with you, all we do contributes to our footprint (I myself go from Switzerland to Glasgow by train, eat no meat, buy local, etc.)

Radiohead’s efforts are not insufficiant, they are THE right thing at the right time - I just thought America was not a good place to put it in practice

(Jim: I know that big cities have great transportation systems, but except in their centers, people use cars, because you just don’t have the choice, when you live in suburbs… no point in getting angry - it’s just the way it is, not my fault, and not yours either)

I agree, it;s very hard to walk the talk in the USA. But it’s also the place that needs to get the message the most, so maybe it’s worth the effort. I sure hope so!
