ALL POINTS WEST MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL is set for August 8, 9 and 10, 2008. The three-day, multi-stage music and arts festival featuring a wide variety of artists including Radiohead and Jack Johnson will take place at Liberty State Park in New Jersey, a historic location offering panoramic views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and the Manhattan skyline.

The festival’s name is inspired by the area’s rich history, particularly Ellis Island and the NJ Central Railroad terminal located on the festival site, where many arriving immigrants boarded trains for ALL POINTS WEST. A portion of the event’s proceeds will benefit “Friends of Liberty State Park.” ALL POINTS WEST is produced by Goldenvoice/AEG Live and Liberty Events in association with the HighLine Ballroom.

Does anybody know why they don´t play Down is The New Up anymore? I remember it used to be one of their favorites of In Rainbows and I actually think it is its best song.

Think i’d be a bit disappointed tomorrow if they didn’t play either My Iron Lung or Paranoid Android. Bit old skool of me, I know but do wanna hear the classics.

Does anyone have set times? What time did they start - how was the support? Was entry smooth?
Thanks

Not at all what I was expecting out of a London crowd– perhaps closer to the front was a little more excited, but a great show nonetheless. It always amazes me how incredible they sound.
I had resisted checking previous setlists before tonight, so I was more than pleasantly surprised by some of the choices -the Tourist in particular. Fantastic.

Fantastic gig. Radiohead went on stage 8.30 on the dot. Bat For Lashes was good, although sound went completely dead right in the middle of one of her songs and she and her band went of stage for a bit. They came back on after about 5-10 mins and did a few more songs.

All in all, good crowd, good set, good support, lovely weather. Everything was just about perfect. Here’s to tomorrow! :D

i was there tonight as well and after attending houston and dallas, i’d say that this was similar to the houston show - however it seemed like they were mixing it up a little bit, adding some different riffs, and climbing the walls was almost like a remix. everything before the first encore was a little routine and thom did mention about how nervous he was… when was his last “home” show? can someone add each of thom’s comments? I can’t seem to remember them all…

Support group I dont think were bat for lashes. Think they said they were called Blue Dreams…?
AMAZING setlist - best I’ve heard yet…

Paul
June 25th, 2008

Cancel last!! It was BFL. Maybe that was just a song title. They were great though!

Paul
June 25th, 2008

oh yeah.. they started a little after 8:30. entry was a breeze, security was light at best. hard to see if you are shorter in the front, which would be expected due to the flat park setting… getting out was a nightmare - 2 hours to get back to parsons green, i’ll be trying another alternate route tomorrow night. didn’t really listen to the opening acts, in fact it seemed that they were really short sets… who played before bat for lashes or was i just imagining things?

jeremy
June 25th, 2008

thom said something funny about having to hurry the encore .. something along the lines of ‘the pumpkin is coming at 10:30′ .. i think a cinderella reference.

anyways, the gig was awesome. show ended around 10:30. massive crowd. LOOOOTS of extras. if you have an extra, i suggest trying to sell it beforehand via this board or http://www.gumtree.com … otherwise, expect to sell it for way below face.

ideoteque was pretty tight.. some cool e drum melodic effects going on. overall a good show, awesome venue, awesome lights.

This is the second best set-list from this tour (so far).

The first being the Dallas show of course.

Where was the encore lads?

Andrew
June 25th, 2008

Bat For Lashes is the stage name of Natasha Kahn the singer. The Blue Dreams are her newish backing band. They went off due to sound problems and then came back on again 10 mins later.

June 25th, 2008

I love Thom Yorke’s solo album, and it’s cool that he’ll play a song from it but how about stuff from the b-side of “In Rainbows”? “Up On The Ladder”, “Down Is The New Up”, “Last Flowers”, “4 Minute Warning”.

To the above poster and all complaining about the lack of IR B-Sides…

Take in mind that there have only been 20/48 performances of this tour completed. Down Is the New Up WILL be played, it’s basically inevitable seeing as how it was Thom’s fave from the sessions.

Just be patienttttt.

Pleeeeeeeaaaase play Climbing up the Walls on Sunday Radiohead, I begs you!

ed@dupe
June 25th, 2008

Ok- few things.

1) Not letting food and drink into the arena is fucking shit.
2) I knew the crowd would be big but that was fucking enormous- it was like a headline slot at Glastonbury. Anyone know how many people there were.
3) The sound on the first 6 songs was fucking horrendously quiet. When you can hear people around you talking- it’s too quiet. However- the sound guy sorted it out from The Gloaming onwards.

I didn’t pay £42 to see my favourite band and not hear them. I was nearly crying at the lack of bass on ‘all i need’. It was criminal and i thought the gig was going to be horrendous :-(

However- The Gloaming was the turning point and theband seemed to get well more into it.

The light show was pretty ineefectual until it started getting dark- btu when it did. Bloody brilliant.

Jigsaw made me want to cry.

Fucking amazing from The Gloaming onwards.

Well done lads

June 25th, 2008

First time I have seen them live…awesome gig! Thom Yorke’s vocal was incredible and as for Johnny Greenwood…a complete genius! Only gripe was the visibility. Is it my imagination or was the approach to the stage slightly uphill…??

Gord
June 25th, 2008

1st of July. Amsterdam gig!!!

Jordi
June 25th, 2008

I pretty much agree with Courage and Gord.

Thought the sound was very bass-light for the most part. I thought the exact same about All I Need. How could it be that we couldn’t hear the most prominent part in that song, the bass?

I also had visibility issues, which overall left me feeling slightly underwhelmed about the gig. I’m slightly above average height, at 6′, yet couldn’t see the band on stage unless I stood on tiptoes. And as cool as the split-screen webcam style video screens look, when you can’t see the band on stage with your own eyes, you want the video-screens to show you what you should be able to see.

I was about level with the mixing desk, so either there was a slight uphill slope to the park, or there was an unusually high number of tall people in front of me.

And no Pandroid or 2+2=5! Shame.

Stavros Bohardy
June 25th, 2008

It is a bit rubbish that you can’t bring your own drinks to the park, but that being said; drinks were only £3.30, which is really not bad for a “festival” beer. And queues were basically non-excistent. I was a bit worried after going to Field day in the same park last year, and queuing for up to two hours to get a pint.

Only things I can remember Thom saying is: “I love you too baby!” (to someone in the crowd), “You’re all gonna have to sing along to this one cause I keep forgetting the words. But they’re fucking shit anyways” (about Planet Telex).

Did anyone else notice “Everything In It’s Right Place” being spelt out in the lights. I only noticed it just as the song finished. Lighting was ace!

still can’t actually believe they played the tories … ohhhh layyyyy! =]

AMAZING SHOW LAST NITE!!!!! i was standing in the middle of the crowd and had an amazing view! Its the first time at a radiohead gig where i could see the whole stage instead the back of someones head!! The sound was incredible!! every song sounded fresh and electric! im still buzzing!!

June 25th, 2008

That was a fantastic gig. It was great to hear nearly the whole of IR live, and there were some nice surprises amongst the rest of the set; it’s always great to hear The Tourist and the new version of Climbing Up The Walls is a definite highlight. I had no problem seeing the stage, but then again I’m 6′4″ tall and was quite near the back. Even if you can’t the light show is simply stunning, especially during Everything In Its Right Place and The National Anthem.

Matt
June 25th, 2008

amazing gig! I managed to get to the middle of the 15th row [slightly to the right] between Thom and Jonny and until the crowd went silly I had a great view. The setlist was faultless and the guys were on form throughout. highlights were: HTDC, CUTW, Gloaming, there there and idioteque.

We joined the relatively small queue around 1pm, started getting a bit busier around 3ish and didnt stop growing until right up to radiohead took to the stage [around 20:30.] the crowd was absolutely enormous.
getting in through the gates was swift and although we were told not to we did have to run the distance to get to the front. As I said before we got a good spot and the crowd were cool for the most part.

now for the bad bits:
smoking and blowing it in peoples faces is seriously not cool. The majority of smokers didnt even have the common decency to ask their neighbors if it was ok for them to smoke. there was hardly any room as it was and difficult to get breathing space without some twat blowing smoke in your face constantly.

the moshing. this is radiohead gig not fucking fall out boy. just enjoy the music without trying to kill everyone around you! dancing = fine. kicking, punching and strangling the person in front = not fine.

those bat for lashes masks! whatever numpty thought it would be a good idea to hand those out needs fucking shooting! most people dumped them before they got into the venue but trust some twats to prop them on top of their heads for the entire gig therefor obscuring the view of the stage for anyone behind them!

food and drink prices inside the venue were beyond ridiculous. £3 for about 5 chips! my bag was barely checked at the gates so its possible to sneak food in. I took just the one bottle of water in which was permitted and my friend had about 3 and they were ok with that as well so just try your luck really.

so enough with the moaning…:-)

hope those going tonight have an equally great time. I really wish I had got tickets for the second gig as well.

June 25th, 2008

Thom got everyone shouting ‘Free Tibet’ for a while at some point. IT WAS GOOD. amazing gig, i managed to get three rows from the front. i could see the hair on their arms. oh, radiohead, i love thee.

The Setlist in Victoria Park London was very disappointing! I understand that they want to push the new CD but wtf - the first 1/2 hour is very boring and the sound not loud enough!

Alex
June 25th, 2008

Agree, disappointing! Bad setlist compared to the ones they played in the other dates of the tour. They start at 8.30 which is too early cos the stage and the screens are very cool when it is dark. They play for less than 2 hours.

Rocco
June 25th, 2008

Absolutely amazing! Highlights for me werebangers and mash, ideoteque and videotape.. which nearly had me in tears! Transport back to reading took 3 hours, but in the venue itself there was minimal queing for anything. I was relatively near the front, but the crowd were brilliant, obviously there for the music rather than to break ribs etc.

Overall… awesome :)

No good vibes yesterday !!!
Guys I really don’t understand why they didn’t play “OK Computer” and their other huge hits… Do they realize that the crowd got crazy when they played “JUST” and was very quiet for more than 1 hour??

not worth the price of the ticket!

Awesome gig. Thom seemed to have a slightly hoarse voice, but was still exceptionally good. Cymbal Rush was amazing. HTDC also good. Think it was Jonny who started the Free Tibet thing by looping Thom’s voice. Thom dropped and unplugged his mic by dancing liking a loon through idioteque. so happy it wasn’t a greatest hits set list

June 25th, 2008

WAY too many TALL PEOPLE!!! impossible to see - tonight i’m gonna stay near the back cos near the front i couldn’t see the band at all.

And yeah some of the crowd are real jerks - smoking excessively, including weed, and jabbering constantly even during songs like Nude.

My head is still buzzing from last night. I have not had time to reflect on the amazing gig so far.

Amazing gig, great night. Never felt like this after a concert!

June 25th, 2008

I can’t believe people would actually complain after seeing a show such as this. I was at the front, not through pushing, just punctuality and good luck, and granted there were idiots who didn’t appreciate the show, they could never over shadow what was happening on stage. And the set list moaning? Ignorance and Inconsiderate.

@attackofthewargs (the pretentious)

here we are talking about personal tastes that cannot be judged (so “ignorance and incompetence” only show your stupidity) and technical comments about sound and daylight that are facts!

I have been following Radiohead for 15 years now and I can tell you that the first concert @Victoria Park was by far the worst I’ve seen of this great band.

The yesterday’s setlist however looks better, without being a simple greatest hits, I hope that even the sound was better because on Tuesday was crap for the first 8-10 songs

Paul
June 26th, 2008

I had been waiting 6 years of my life to see Radiohead live! Naively, i never once thought the crowd could be so huge and crushing.
I was near the front to begin with, alll was cool through bat for lashes..and the inbetween-y parts…until radiohead appeared…and out of no where..the most obnoxious, arrogant, selfish wankers I had ever experience at a gig..began to ‘mosh’ …They were grown men..so grown they were balding..and they were jumping into people..whacking me in the back/head..causing other people to fall over and get crushed themselves. i couldnt hear the music.. i could see a thing! It was horrible:( in the end me and my friend pushing through the crowd..and found a little patch of grass..just to the side of the stage, with enough room to dance! and from that point..it was the most amazing time :)

June 26th, 2008

Oi Ade! Where’s the second Vicky gig’s report? I was there and the setlist (which I don’t know in order) absolutely Kicked ass!!! It was the best Rh gig I’ve been. I want to hear other’s comments so please set a news entry about it!!!

Cee
June 26th, 2008

@Paul ( the confused)
Personal taste? My stupidity? I said it is silly to complain at a set list. I think it is ignorant to moan that a band did not play the songs you wanted. I did not mention technical or sound problems. I think you need to calm down and stop stating how long you have been following a band as if it means something. I enjoyed the concert and expressed it in my message. I’m sorry you didn’t, no need to get in a huff.

attackofthewargs
June 26th, 2008

I have to agree with Paul (about 4 posts above me) that this was a disappointing gig. The setlist on Wednesday was FAR better - I could list about ten songs from that gig that I wanted to hear on Tuesday, when I think there was too much from Kid A and Amnesiac and not enough from The Bends and OK computer. The crowd just didn’t seem to be as “into it” as usual a lot of the time. The only time the entire crowd went mad was during Just. I expect more than that, even from the people standing towards the middle/back. Both nights for me next time…

Paul
June 27th, 2008

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the ignorant tw*ts in the audience who couldn’t even be bothered to pay attention to (or even stand facing) a band they’d paid close to £50 to see. Every time I moved to get away from them, I was greeted with more. I had to tell so many people to “sssshhhhh”, when all I really wanted to tell them was to “shut the **** up!!”

Paul
June 27th, 2008

I agree with Paul above about the setlist.

They didn’t play many of the really really great songs from the early days.

i.e. - Paranoid Android, Fake Plastic, Karma, High & Dry, Lucky, Bends, Iron Lung, Street Spirit, No Suprises, Black Star, Let Down, 2+2=5, Myxoamatosis, Wolf, Knives Out, the ‘C’ word… etc.

Instead there were songs like the gloaming, cymbal rush, bangers, $s and cents, which left me felling a bit cold.

Although it was interesting to see some of the rarer tracks live and it’s great that every gig is unique. From there point of view, playing the same tracks again and again would drive them mad.

I feel a bit jealous of those who go the setlist of the second night and glasgow…

Next time it’s both nights all the way. I also hope they more intimate gigs again soon.

I thought Bat For Lashes were great aswell - though not many other people seemed into them which was a shame.
