    Whoa awesome setlist!

  • Pearly Gates

It twas good. Both nights were.

  • Joe

Was an amazing night except I had to battle to the front to find a remotely good atmosphere. Everyone around 20 rows back was either standing dead still or filming every moment on their phones/overly expensive cameras. It’s a real shame that people go to gigs and don’t get involved, and instead just film it to watch the next day.

Aside from the annoyance of people not moving until us young ‘uns got something going (with the help of Myxomatosis) it was however, the best gig I’ve seen. It was my first Radiohead gig, and it exceeded all expectations, except for some of the crowd!

Also, does anyone else think us second nighters got a massively better setlist than the previous night’s? Methinks so.

If you want to jump about – go and see The Kooks… Theres not much pogo-ing to be done to “All I Need”

Having said that – the concert was EXCELLENT! nice to see they threw in a few older songs and rarer live tracks.

Anyone else think Thom was in a really good mood too? – quite a bit of talking (more than usual) – “Cool Beans…” and “In a minute the sun will go down…” etc etc

Joe ! ! ! i am with U – i even tought is it me so wrong this days or the world . . . ? second song ( tampa + west palm ) i had to put everything away and dance and pay close attention – i even forgot i had a camera ! and i am 39 !

thank god myxomatosis its myxomatosis – infectious !

  • http://www.myspace.com/dellausi pantrus

ian – joe is talking about other types of dancing – even dancing with your head -

  • Grizzo

    What a fantastic gig…

can’t wait for Manchester on Sunday!

  • 15steppy

what an umbelievable concert. and amazing setlist! never ceases to amaze me how awesome they are live. so accomplished…

  • Cee

Yeah, thom was in such a good happy mood! I can’t recall him being so happy in any gig-recording I’ve seen. That was just great and probably the best setlist of the tour… the selection and the sequence of songs was just perfect. Shame that people push so much at the front but I still prefer that to the down mood of the daydream festival.

  • http://www.johngalantini.com JOHN

It was soooooo good. One of the best concerts of their career as far as I am concerned. Great weather. Great mood. Wonderful audience. Cant wait for the bootleg.

  • Stimp

yeah it was awesome but i agree that the audence was a bit subdued…i felt really self concious dancing as noone else around me was…

though they were singing awfully loud and out of tune…

  • spike

I was there both nights and thought the set list tonight was much better – couldn’t have hoped for better actually!

I know there are a lot of songs you can’t dance to but the crowd could have been a bit more lively, and really, more people should sing along! especially to the classics! But the crowd were very respectful and mature, which I liked.

Weather was perfect. Thom was in high spirits (at one moment a big grin came on the screen) and everything went off without a hitch. One of the best gigs I’ve been to.

  • bingobongo

I went to both gigs- whilst last night had the ‘crowd pleasers’ I found the atmosphere and charm of the first show muuuch better- there were just far too many wankers who had apparently paid 40 quid to go to s show they werent too bothered about seeing- any excuse for a pissup…shame

  • Monkey Chops

Joe, I totally agree. The 2nd night setlist was far better than the 1st.

  • http://www.greasypigstudios.com arvin bautista

NOw that’s a good balance of old and new.

  • RAF

Why the fuck do they play myxamatosis when Cuttooth is better in every way!!!!!! BAH!

  • RAF

Just replace myxamatosis and the National anthem with Planet Telex and I might be wrong, and you have a perfect set.

They never CAN do a perfect set i guess.

  • jeremy

i was at both nights in london and this one surely blew the first away… although they did end a little early according to my clock… really fabulous though overall, my 4th show of the tour and i am certain this won’t be topped – thom and the boys really went tops for his “hometown”…

  • Holland god

    Myx > Cuttooth

  • Sam

I went to both and night 2 was far better: setlist AND atmosphere. I think the sunny weather helped. I also didn’t have to go to the toilet during the 1st encore on the 2nd night which was a bonus :-)

I think with a big crowd like Victoria Park Radiohead need to play their big guns like PA and Karma Police to get the fans going. They should save the lesser known ones for gigs like the Hammersmith. I love pretty much all their songs, but there’s a time and a place for certain tracks.

Optimistic was ace last night and the crowd singing along to Karma Police even after Thom had finished his acapella bit was pure Rock and Roll!

  • dan

anyone know the information, or know where i can get the information for the tracks played just before radiohead went on 1st or 2nd night thanks

  • shotbybothsides

I went last night and although I very much enjoyed it, particularly ‘Bangers and Mash’ and ‘There, There’ I found the atmosphere a bit weird as well.

Where I was stood there seemed to be this huge contrast in attitudes. This older grey haired guy was stood with his son and the two of them seemed absolutely adamant that they weren’t going to move or do much all night. Which is fair enough.

The problem was that there was a large group of lads, about sixteen maybe who were pretty hyperactive but very passionate and knowledgable about the band, often guessing correctly which song was coming next when different guitars were brought onto the stage and leaping around very enthusiastically.

I’ve got nothing against that sort of thing either, I can remember being pretty much the same when I went to the South Park gig in Oxford when I was that age.

The trouble was that the son of the grey haired guy was getting extremely aggressive and intimidating the moment anyone came near him or brushed past in anyway.

Everything boiled over though during ‘My Iron Lung’ with the grey haired guy’s son throwing punches at these kids and they started scuffling with him and I was worried that he was going to really hurt one of them, or the grey haired guy was somehow going to cop for it.

It just seems ridiculous when people stand near the stage without any intention of moving or doing anything and then are shocked or angry when they get knocked about a bit.

Anyway, that was my tuppence worth, regardless of that I enjoyed myself, although I wouldn’t have minded ‘Go To Sleep’ but you can’t have everything in life.

  • scat1620

Loads of wankers in the audience wandering about for no reason, chatting loudly, and doing anything but listen to the music last night? Why spend the best part of £50 on a ticket if you don’t give a flying **** about what the band are doing on stage?

Twats in the crowd aside, it was a decent but not brilliant set by the band. The main set was great but the encores were pretty poor – sounded like they were playing The Bends and My Iron Lung at about 50% of the speed they are on the record, when the crowd really needed something to get them going at that point.

7/10 for the band, 0/10 for a significant portion of the audience.

  • 15steppy

disagree entirely with that last comment scat1620…the bends and my iron lung were performed with great energy and precision. set was amazing.

  • spike

there was this great bit at the end of Karma Police – the song ended, the band stopped playing, but Thom kept singing with his acoustic guitar, a bright white light fell over the crowd and everybody sang along “For a minute there I lost myself!” – amazing moment.

  • Lynn

I could die happy with this setlist.

  • peas

holy fuck. no surprises. that’s the first time on this tour, right? hopefully it’s out of their system and we’ll get let down in manc land.

  • Pearly Gates

The crowd was less edgy on the Wednesday than the Tuesday. I had to leave halfway through as I was getting too bruised and battered to enjoy myself. But I agree with Spike – was awesome on Wednesday when the crowd sang with Thom on his acoustic guitar and then the crowd sang on their own to bring them back for Encore 2.

  • cyan

first radiohead gig I’ve been to. was amazing.seemed to go so quick though!the sound was so good.Thom’s voice was great.think they stole the set off arcade fire.but was still good to look at!
was getting abit sick of all the drugs round me though.cant get the stink off!

  • Johnsters

I dont understand why people continue on having private conversations for the best part of the gig and wandering around with their mates while the band was on. You wouldn’t do this in the Albert hall. I guess the festival like vibe allows this. I was standing fairly near the back in the end and there was this dude next to me dancing during every song. He wasn’t on drugs or anything or even on the beers, just really digging it. I don’t think he was even a big fan. Fair play my friend.

Bangers and Mash was great as well as the Reckoner and Optimistic. I wish I could have heard let down once in my life:-(

  • Matt

This is the sort of set list I was expecting on the 24th to be honest; about half Greatest Hits and half In Rainbows. They’re never going to please everyone, but that seems about the most straightforward compromise they could have come to. That said, I don’t feel like I missed out as the older album tracks that they played on Tuesday were really great and I’ve nothing against mellow gigs at all.

With 40,000 people there are always going to be a few idiots. Still the arena was huge so it’s not like its a hassle to just walk away from them.

As for the dancing, yeah, I did some silly stuff myself, even having a brief waltz during The Tourist and I was stone cold sober! I’m not one for standing still during gigs though and how are you supposed to dance to Radiohead anyway given that they seem to studiously avoid any regular time signatures?

  • bert

been going to radiohead gigs since 1995-but, i can’t say i will be going again-massive problems-soul sucking jerks in audience-poor sound-going through motions-more burger vans than toilets-ripp off-when did radiohead go capitalist?-say compared to sigur ros performance evening before this whole event was a complete shambles -the only positive i can take is bat for lashes performance of “bats mouth”-a very sad day indeed

  • Sagnier

Second night setlist looked better than the first but after my friend and i being gifted free tickets by someone from xl as we danced outside the arena during th first song i decided that going on wednesday was going to be a let down, relatively. I thought th sound was fantastic – best iv ever heard in open air, and and better than lots of theatre shows iv seen in th past. thom’s voice sounded so good. I was quite happy near th back of th crowd too, which is a first for me. Just danced along th whole time and had fun guessing what they were going to play next from their instruments. I was 95% correct. I probably sang along rather too much for th comfort of my neighbours but you cant please everyone can you? My summer is a less anxious one now I’ve actually got to see them when i thought i wouldn’t. I just hope it don’t downpour for th people of glasgow.

  • Inso

Have to agree with some people about the atmosphere
I wasn’t miles back but even I could hear more noise from the front of the crowd over the mic than I could from the people around me. So it almost didn’t feel like I was there, apart from the excellent chant at the end of Karma Police when, for a change, the crowd actually seemed to pull together instead of getting in eachother’s way constantly.

There was not a single song in that concert where at least 6 or 7 people didn’t try to barge past me, and it’s a shame, because aside from all these distractions it was a great set of performances.

  • phil

went 2nd nite, was spellbound the whole show. stood central, midway between the stage and desk, couldn’t have been any better, fantastic playing and singing, setlist, the lads seemed to enjoy themselves too. Anyone know the preshow stuff over the PA, sort of ambient electronic rumble, please ???

  • K-popper

I have to agree with the handful of dissenting voices. We moved several times to get away from the talkers but we were in the minority wanting to watch in silence. I just CANNOT understand it. These people would go mental at the first hint of a particular song showing that they were big fans but then they would just turn round and carry on the conversation. There was not a single group of people in our vicinity that weren’t talking almost constantly. And we were pretty close to the front. What a waste of £50.

The band were great as always but i thought the daylight for most of the gig gave it a strange festival feel which i think contributed to the talking. I didn’t feel like the gig really got going till it went dark which was right at the end of the main set. Some big highlights for me in the set but seriously marred by the crowd.

  • Trina

I was really lucky. I was right at the front near where thom roughly stands. As i’m very short, two people kindly let me stand in front of them so that i got right up to the barrier and could see really well. Thank you so much people!! it was my first radiohead concert and it was a real thrill to see them play. i especially loved go slowly and videotape but the whole concert was an amazing experience. everyone around me seemed to enjoy it just as much and really there was no casual chat, just lots of singing and cheering. Everyone sung in a hushed way through Faust Arp and i remember thinking how magical the atmosphere was.

i’d have loved the first night 2 had i gone, as i love the sound of the setlist. My younger brother and sister also really loved the show.

    Wow!

  • plumit

I thought the band were on top form – but the CROWD! I just could find a place to get away from the idiots. I really wanted to listen to Go Slowly, , but instead I had to listen to some idiot droneing on about the girl his brother had just married. I confess I was very disapointed with the quality of the sound. I headed to be close to the front of house desk, as it’s usually a good place to get the best mix, sadly not…I would have prefered it louder, just so I could hear the music over the boring bankers/wankers talking through every song except the ones from the Bends which they would sing along to …badly. It was a joy however to see Thom and the guys really enjoyng what they do, and doing it very well

Went to see them in Dublin they were very good dispite a few technical hitches, but last night they were absolutely fantastic, great set. Possibly the best i’ve seen them and i’ve seen them all over Europe

Such an amazing concert… I was almost in front of the stage, managed to take a few pictures… can’t wait to see tham again in Belgium this week end!
Thanks for those precious moments which are engraved in my heart.

  • Alex

I thought everything was perfect- sound, weather, lights, band

    but

the crowd WERE terrible. at the back were people more content to talk (especially aussie and south africans who wanted to conform to their sub-cultural image) and at the front people who only wanted my iron lung/just/paranoid android or idiot fanboys who were checking songs off lists/ shouting stupid things out rather than actually getting into the music.

i would have loved to have seen them do this in shepards bush like i did in 2003.
