Posted on June 29th, 2008.

Hopefully the second encore will consist of: “Go Slowly”, “2+2=5″ and either “Idioteque” or “Paranoid Android”.

“Enough. Who’d we look like, the Arctic Monkeys?” Haha. (During Faust Arp? Seriously?)

“Survival of the fitest!… local concertgowers beaten to death by security because or their utter stupidity”

oh well im still jealous of them that im in michigan and they are at a radiohead show

I sure hope they do a 26-setlist in Amsterdam on Tuesday. So many songs in this setlist I’d love to hear.

:O Have they ever done 3 encores before?

June 29th, 2008

Great show.

Thom banter:

Before Paranoid Android:

Thom: we dedicate this next song to MGMT and Bat for Lashes.

Before Optimistic:

Thom: You ever met a politician and got the feeling they’re hollow inside? I’ve had the feeling. However, I remain optimistic.

Phil plays a “boom tish”

Thom: it took me all day to come up with that.

Before Myxomatosis:

Thom: this one’s a nasty bugger.

Before Lucky:

Thom: We’ve got a few more minutes before we turn into pumpkins. Or mice or whatever the fuck it is.

Improvised lyric in 2+2=5: “motherfucker motherfucker” instead of “all hail to the thief all hail to the thief”

Just before No Surprises, a fan yells out for Bishop’s Robes.

Thom: Perhaps.

I envy you, Manchester. I could quite happily die in peace with that setlist. Third encore? I reckon everyone else should not leave until a third encore is played from now on! :)

Lynn
June 30th, 2008

So glad I was there, it was incredible. It wasn’t so much moshing as just people pushing. But I am VERY happy we got a third encore, and 2+2=5 into Idioteque is beyond words

man it was good,
everyone was nice and warmed up and
then they dropped National Anthem in there
and everyone went crazy.

This evening was so nearly cut short however when some idiot threw a shoe, that with the narrowest of margins went sailing past Jonny’s head. Who throws a shoe, really?!

By the by, fucking awesome show tonight. The 3rd encore was special :)

June 30th, 2008

They didnt play the few of my favourites that I was really hoping for (setlist favoured the more well known songs). That said, it was a phenomenal gig! Favourite song was probably national anthem, although Lucky was such a perfect ending considering it was added on as the crowd chanted for more. Post-Karma Police sing along was amazing!

Gary Matherson
June 30th, 2008

So pleasantly surprised when they pulled out 2+2=5, as was expecting idioteque to close a standard 24 song setlist. And then to get lucky was unbelievable

Gary Matherson
June 30th, 2008

Best concert iv’e ever been to.
National anthem was immense.
I was right at the front and the guy next to me got peed on. But still, fucking perfect set.
Myxsomatosis was great.

Nathen931
June 30th, 2008

man that gig was good! Amazing! The guy moshing during Faust ARP was an idiot though. Jonny was on good form ,he kept walking to the front of the stage, in the centre and rocking out! he usually just hides at the side.

Ben
June 30th, 2008

i am ever so proud to say i was there :)
amazing setlist for an amazing band!
mgmt were good, shame i can’t say the same about bat for lashes

louis d
June 30th, 2008

tonight was awesome. as someone mentioned, the karma police singalong as they retook the stage was special.

best bit was surely thom almost falling over in laughter when colin came in earlier than he expected with national anthem, though?

June 30th, 2008

It was incredible!! Can’t beat 3 encores eh? My first time seeing them too..wow

Stefan
June 30th, 2008

Wow, you fans were pretty “lucky”

Great setlist.

Pete
June 30th, 2008

When Thom said that thing about Arctic monkeys i didnt know what was happening. Reading this sure clears it up.

2+2=5 or Karma Police (Or maybe Paranoid Android…) were my favourites.

A guy behind me took loads of ketamine though and couldn’t even stand up. Whats the point spending so much money ot see such a good band if your not even going to be able to remember it?

Platty
June 30th, 2008

I want that setlist :)

Pip, they haven’t done tripple encores this tour but they have done in the past, Montreal ‘01 for example, 3rd encore was Fake Plastic Trees :D

iamwormbuffet

WRONG!

–3rd Encore–
23. the tourist

i was there!

they also did pearly!

June 30th, 2008

Pip u must be referring to the show in Barrie on August 3, 2001. Twas my first show, and the third encore was The Tourist… Pearly also played that night!

Sean
June 30th, 2008

It was nice to see Colin in such good form - not seen him jumping around like that before, he’s been subdued when I’ve seen them. I also reckon that Ed plays ‘guitar hero’ and looks at himself in the mirror. Nude was gorgeous. The singalong wouldn’t usually be my cup of tea but there was such a good atmosphere in the crowd and the drunk idiots were a minority. The lighting was fantastic though the view wasn’t good if you were under 6′ tall. Bat for Lashes were excellent but didn’t feel right for the occasion. Not as inspired a choice as ADF were in 2003!

Steve O
June 30th, 2008

I got a smile from Jonny Greenwood! That sahit is going on my CV. I can’t believe one band can be so amazing. Can’t even describe how perfect that was. Holy shit. Wow.

Brian The Brough
June 30th, 2008

i thought it was a little disapointing to be honest, i thought it didnt get going at all until the national anthem and the sound was a little low until then. the pacing of the setlist didnt work for me until the national anthem either. there were highlights though like jigsaw and lucky but overall id say solid rather than spectacular

alex
June 30th, 2008

Great gig! To me it was kinda the “best of Radiohead”, they definately played to rock the crowd! I actully heard someone say “well, there playing what they want… non of their well known stuff” which is crazy as I thought they played most of the classics! Best song, Airbag… but only because I’ve always wanted to hear it live :-).

sebpetch
June 30th, 2008

That was an amazin show
Im so glad they played paranoid android!
Best gig ever!!

June 30th, 2008

The show was absolutely amazing! MGMT & Bat For Lashes kinda blew tho, all except for the MGMT guy’s technicolour poncho…

June 30th, 2008

it was amazing, literally everyone sang to karma police and it was epic.also;the tram we were on on the way home literally derailed and crashed,no-one was hurt at all though. so closing with lucky seemed especially significant:)

iceage
June 30th, 2008

Bat for Lashes were amazing! Loved their new songs and new lineup. MGMT were pretty good too. Favourite bit for me was when Jonny’s radio blurted out “Your busy? I’m busy too!” as Thom was starting National Anthem. That was funny

Ben

i woke up with a smile today…
can’t believe i saw radiohead live last night!!!they played so beautiful! just perfect! it was my first time i’ve seen them live and now i can’t wait to see them again..thanx a lot!!! especially for -there there- ,)

A third encore? That is fucking beautiful!

June 30th, 2008

Mind-blowing. At first, we were a little far away from the stage, and I think the wind affected the sound, but once we’d moved closer– just to the left-hand side of the stage– it was just incredible. The support bands were great, too (especially Bat for Lashes)! Definitely the best gig I’ve ever been to.

UNTERMENSCHEN
June 30th, 2008

Was a brilliant gig! Generally good crowd, singing along to most songs, even Videotape! And it wasn’t really moshing that Thom told people to stop, it was more about there being too many people down the front so people had to fight for there space.

And Lucky as the 3rd encore was perfect! The girl next to me was crying and the man infront had his head in his hands, almost in complete amazement. Stunning.

Danny
June 30th, 2008

My first Radiohead gig and it was AMAZING! Got so lucky with the queues that was able to get about third row with only half an hour queuing. View from the front was awesome and there was some moshing and crowd swerves. Great gig, perfect audio, they didn’t play Scatterbrain :(. Next time I hope theres a more intimate place with less people so you don’t have to fight for your place all gig long.

June 30th, 2008

last night was truly awesome! my first time :D highlight was ideoteque [my fav song ever!] and national anthem and oh god, they were all good! i was proper crying my eyes out by the encore as i just didnt want it to end! also went bananas for bangers and mash! everyone where i was were pretty sound, singin and dancing along. was a mini kinda mosh pit goin on during bodysnatchers and everyone was gettin shoved about [not nice if yur a titch like thom] but it soon mellowed out. only thing that realy bothered me was that there seemed to be a lot of what me and my bf called the ’skins’ genreation, aka people who had only ever heard nude off the advert but these were a minority! funniest thing was my boyf getting mauled for having radiohead tattoos, he has for a minutes there i lost myself and during the karma police ’sing-a-long’ everyone was pointing and gasping and taking fotos. awesome awesome nite, im jus lookin thru my fotos and wishing it hadnt ended! xxxxxxxxxx.

June 30th, 2008

Absolutely Fantastic Night! Had been really worried about the weather since it had rained all night and it had been fairly heavy all morning. But then a few hours before the gig the clouds disappeared and it was clear skies till the sun went down. The atmosphere was just brilliant so many people rocking along really chilled, it felt like people were really there to appreciate the music, rather than just go crazy despite the mini mosh. Got some serious goosebumps during Videotape.
Not sure what it was like up the front but we had an alright view at the back and the lighting and visuals were a brilliant accompaniment.
Well impressed with the set list with only a tiny pang on not having Spinning Plates, although to be honest everything they played was just so good I really can’t complain. Most amazing experience of my life,I shall never forget it.

Lucy
June 30th, 2008

Amazing.

One of the highlights was Bangers and Mash - Thom’s voice was really punky and sneering.

(Also, when they were introducing Myxomatosis Thom called it ‘a nasty little bugger’ which I loved.)

yaya6
June 30th, 2008

Super cool band or not and great gig besides, at that price per ticket they should play “Creep” and “Street Spirit”. I think it’s taking advantage of their fans that they don’t.
And yes I was there

GucciPiggy
June 30th, 2008

NO WORDS.
There”s no proper way to explain how ridiculously good this show was.
I thought nothing was perfect before this night, that has certainly changed, Mind-blowing performance.

If the other show`s has been as good as this one, only mentally disabled people would dare to complain. The show was perfect, and i feel really lucky to have seen this band live, thank you.

After this show my soul is finally ATEASE.

Victor
June 30th, 2008

The Gloaming sucked.

All I Need better than the studio version.

Jigsaw was the fucking tits.

Basically shit hot.

Sound was better than either Warrington in 2000, Notts Ice Arena in 2003, or Wolverhampton Civic Hall in 2006.

Incredible.

Mike McMonkey
June 30th, 2008

It was a great gig, but am I the only one who didn’t get the “joke” before optimistic (21 Optimistic [Thom: "You ever met a politician and got the feeling they’re hollow inside? I had that feeling. However, I remain optimistic".])? People were laughing around me, but that went way over my head. Anyone care to explain please?

palid
June 30th, 2008

Not so much a joke as a poor link.
He sees politicians as hollow because they have no substance or principles . However he remains optimistic he might meet one that is not hollow then links it to the song.

GucciPiggy
June 30th, 2008

Yay - the running order included all I need. But there were no surprises when Just and Karma Police and Paranoid Android came around.
Everything wasn’t in its right place for me. It was lucky that The Gloaming was there with it’s added goodness.
2+2=5 followed by Idioteque, was like a jigsaw falling into place in an otherwise glorious but sometimes incoherent set list.Epic.
I guess I prefer listening to albums rather than an MP3 player on shuffle.

Big Louise
June 30th, 2008

I think the only time they’ve done third encores was on the Amnesiac tour in ‘01, and even then it was only an occasional thing, usually Thom playing “Motion Picture Soundtrack”. So the folks in Manchester are very luck - erm, fortunate - to have gotten one. (sorry, couldn’t bear to pun.)

lieutzip
June 30th, 2008

For my first time seeing Radiohead, it couldn’t have gotten any better. The sound quality and atmosphere were both immense, at least where I was (near the front on Jonny’s side) and they probably played the best sety-list of the tour so far. Highlights were definately Thom’d dancing during The Gloaming, Weird Fishes, No Surprises, Idioteque and Lucky. Loved it!!

Rhys
June 30th, 2008

So who’s the Politician?

Stinky Beetle
June 30th, 2008

This was my fourth Radiohead gig in 11 years and I have to say it was my least favourite. Not because of the band - they played a really solid set and Thom’s voice was on top form. The atmosphere, from where I was standing, was all a bit edgy and unpleasant. There were more than usual drunken idiots spoiling it for others, and lots of teenage idiots singing along to Nude REALLY BADLY. Listen folks I love the big singalongs for the big songs like Karma Police and No Surprises but when you’ve got silly twats (girls and boys) singing EVERY SINGLE note flat, it gets a bit annoying. I moved to a few different spots in the crowd during the night and it was the same story everywhere. The Skins types seemed to get pretty bored after the band got Nude out of the way. Also, it’s a small point and I guess nothing to do with the band but the big squeeze as people tried to just get away from the ground and onto a tram was a nightmare. There were idiots pushing all over the place and a couple of the wee girls in the crowd looked pretty scared. One of them in front of me had badly hurt her arm after being pushed over. Does anyone know if this happens every time there’s a gig/game at LCCC? I was a bit pissed off by it all because I knew the band had done a great job - I just wasn’t able to enjoy it as much as I wanted.

G Bob
June 30th, 2008

Wow, this was easily the bet gig ive ever been to, fantastic setlist, brilliant show, they played amazingly…just wow..The light show (especially in paranoid android) was outstanding.EVery song was brilliant, but highlights were Fake plastic trees, Paranoid android, Myxomatosis, National Anthem, Idioteque and Karma police (yes thats a lot, but it was a big set!) Afterwards we even got in the aftershow party, and I met and talked to Colin, who’s probably the nicest guy ever, even got a picture with him…again, mindblowing show, one of the best nights i’ve ever had.

MattHanley
June 30th, 2008

Excellent performance last night, enjoyed the band even though I was about three miles from the stage (I was with my 5ft 3 girlfriend who hasn’t a hope in hell of seeing anything if we stand too close)What I didn’t enjoy was the sheer volume of yuppie dickheads near us who were more interested in drinking, talking and taking photos of each other than listening to the band. I can’t fathom why anyone would fork out £45 for a ticket only to completely ignore everything that transpires on stage. Even worse than when I saw them at V Festival, believe it or not.

bd54
June 30th, 2008

Radiohead were great with many highlights - my favourite was National Anthem.

However, I agree with other commenters on the crowd. Way too many drunken idiots talking through sets or bellowing out the lyrics to Karma Police over Thom’s beautiful singing. Why?!

Also, I would ask that Radiohead reconsider their venue/transport policy as it took me bloody ages to leave the ground and reach the tram station directly adjacent. It took me 5 hours to get home when it should have taken just over 2!

Sod public transport
June 30th, 2008

Colin, and the rest of the band was definitely taken aback by a large majority of the crowd singing Karma Police during the second encore which is why I think we got the third - fantastic!

Hutch
June 30th, 2008

Radiohead blew my mind! I’ve never experienced anything like it. I cried ecstatically throughout 15 step and 2+2=5. Radiohead, 3rd encore, sunset; what a ‘lucky’ bunch of people we are; clever Thom. Never disappoints.

Amy
June 30th, 2008

Easily the best time I’ve seen them. All five were at the top of their game for every single note and beat.

Lucky was a gorgeous surprise as well.

Jackers
June 30th, 2008

Great show, quite possibly the best gig I’ve ever been to. Sadly idiots and inadequate public transport are just things you have to deal with for a show that size, this is modern Britain. (I was so glad I forked out for a hotel, so my night was relatively hassle free)

Anyway, the In Rainbows stuff held up much better live than I had though it would, really good, All I Need was one of my favourite tracks of the night.

Getting Fake Plastic Trees was awesome, Karma Police was immense, 2+2=5 and Paranoid Android kicked ass. Pyramid Song was beautiful, Idioteque riotous, and the bonus encore of Lucky was a fantastic way to cap the night.

Jan B
June 30th, 2008

Alot of idiots in the crowd, I mean Faust Arp was ridiculous.

But all in all it was the best night of my life. And my life is pretty alright.

London Night 2 > Manchester > London Night 1 ..imo

Other than the crowd being dead to the core where I was stood, great gig! …Oh, and also except for The Gloaming which they seemed to fuck up at the end - that was pretty whack. Lucky as a 3rd encore was awesome. Idioteque just doesn’t seem to cut it as a closing song and I think the band/crowd weren’t prepared to leave it with that.

During the support I found myself distracted by the fact that Radiohead kept coming out on to their balcony to watch the bands. Thom was dancing to MGMT and Colin took a bunch of photos. I took a photo of Thom dancing but it was too far away to come out clearly.

MGMT = cool. I reckon we’ll be hearing a lot more of them on radio this summer (not that you should judge them by that). 8/10
BfL = trying to be a Bjork-Feist mix. Some of the stuff was cool, but that “ning ninganing, ning ninganing” keyboard bit really irritated me and the bit where she sang “Been thinking about having a couple o’ kids” just made me laugh (but not in a good way). 5/10

Was a great gig, but it was the quietest gig of the 3 I saw this tour. Were there sound restrictions in place? Bat for Lashes were louder. However, 3 aongs from the end the volume picked up and it was incredible.

Hey, how do you get into aftershow parties? If I’d have known I would have stuck around. Btw, tha was the best night of my life, just phenomenal. Just was absolutely fantastic. Lucky was amazing as a closer but it would have been the perfect gig of they’d have played Street Spirit instead. And the Gloaming did NOT suck. I was right at the front, second row, IN THE MIDDLE and Thom gestured at me from the stage IT WAS AMAZING.

The concert was amazing. I stood in que for about 8 hours and then got to the first line, 40 thousand people behind me. Enjoyed every second of it, even with disturbance like people passing on cups with pee in them and normal fans hoping too much for Just and Creep

also during Faust Arp some kid got dragged out of the crowd after shoving and pushing people around and Thom looked and him and said :

“Bugger off. Go home to your mom”

Bat for lashes was a bit boring and gypsie(and long) but her ass looks great in blue

MGMT were awesome. didn’t see that coming

Jigsaw, wow, No Surprises,National anthem, Bangers, Idioteque, Paranoid, 2+2=5 and Lucky were the best songs I’ve heard on the set.

Legendary I tell thee
Was worth the trip from Israel

It was a great gig by the band! Ive seen them a few times now (from South Park to Glastonbury) - and the setlist and quality was ace.

Downsides were what must have been a tame license meaning an early start, and not quite as much volume as many wanted! The lights might as well have been turned off for the first hour - due to the daylight.

I put the entire gig in its right order as a playlist on youtube under my channel at:

So proud of it…! Waht a gig!!!!

I’ve been a fan since ‘96, but for some reason have never managed to see these guys live - they’re my favourite band, so this time I HAD TO SEE THEM!

Driving up the M6, the heavens opened and I wondered whether it would piss it down for the entire gig… but no! By 2pm the skies had cleared and it was a glorious day - (I feel my luck could change?).

Fantastic gig! I couldn’t have hoped for a better set list, although I wish they’d done a few more Bends material.

We were near the front to the left of the stage and for about half the gig, the crowd refused to mosh. Looking over to the centre, they seemed to be moshing to almost everything. Remaining still allowed us to appreciate the tunes more, although I was itching to get going having witnessd no-one moving to Just. Fortunately a swarm of pissed up moshy lunes began a surging forward campaign, so we decided to ride it and ended up about 5 rows from the front in the centre… so to get 2+2=5 and Idioteque in the 2nd encore was a euphoric moment! After that 2nd encore we were waiting to see if they’d come out again and I asked “when do we give up?”, some Richey Manic lookin dude shouted “Never!” - so glad I listened to him - the 3rd encore was a perfect end to a perfect gig.

I don’t think the “enough” comment was anything to do with moshing, which I didn’t see - when Thom sang the line “enough is enough” it came out sounding more like “enuff” a la Alex Turner

Franky I’m amazed anyone found anything to moan about at this ublime event . I’m a 55year old pub landlord who’s first gig was the beatles christmasshow in 1965 , and I’ve been to he isle of wight / reading / you name it , and hve seen everyone from hendrix to pink floyd to beach boys , and i can honestly say it was a privilege , a joy,and an honour tosee the best band in the world at the top of their game in such a beautiful location on such a lovely evening . Perfect . o.k. , some people seemed more interested in each other than the concert - but that’s life and their choice .I still take joy from being in the presence of so many joyous folk enjoying life . Lighten up folks - believe me -these goldenmoments are the ones you remember as the years pass -thank you radiohead once again it was a triumph for the soul
