The band played at Molson in 2001…it’s not the first time they performed there

DAN
August 15th, 2008

I gave away my ticket for this show. Probably gonna regret it. Particularly if they play Last Flowers! Then I will cry and cry and cry.

PS Dan: Yes this is the first time they have played the Molson Amphitheatre.
They played Molson Park in Barrie, but not the Amphitheatre in Toronto.

You GAVE AWAY your ticket??? For shame…

Nikita
August 15th, 2008

Nikita: I’ve seen them 7 times, and I didn’t have the money to pay my friend for the ticket, so I told her she could give it to her friend who really wanted to go. I think that was nice of me :)

August 16th, 2008

I love this setlist. It’s almost as good as the one in Noblesville. I know this may be a ignorant question, but I’m going to ask it anyway. Does anyone know why Radiohead doesn’t play anything off Pablo Honey anymore? Is it just because they want to distance themselves from that album?

Mack10
August 16th, 2008

damn, that first encore is incredible.

BEST ENCORE PERIOD

August 16th, 2008

I believe they don’t play any songs from Pablo Honey because it is a hideous album. That’s probably why.

Kevin
August 16th, 2008

best setlist yet.

August 16th, 2008

pablo honey is not hideous! blow out and stop whispering are fine songs!

joe
August 16th, 2008

Pablo Honey is a great album. Some people seem to dislike this album only because the band no longer play many of the songs on it without making up their own minds about it. Yes, it’s not even remotely close to the style the band has since transitioned to but it’s no less important. Without Pablo Honey, we would have never had The Bends and without The Bends, we would have never had OK Computer and so on and so forth. And tonight’s setlist was probably the best of, at the very least, the U.S. tour. Wow!

August 16th, 2008

just came back from the concert, in limbo was played at the soundcheck. It was imbw, some song, like spinning plates, talk show host, talk show host, a bit of what sounded like hunting bears, then I might be wrong about a billion times, bodysnatchers.
it was kinda hard to hear where i was sitting though.

Radiohead delivered a satisfactory but boring performance on Saturday, August 16 in Toronto. Their low-key stage manner was made up for by excellent lighting and innovative video work. The band sounded very similar to their albums and hurray for the technical crew – those lights were amazing!

It’s too bad the crew couldn’t find any animating force for the dummies that made up Radiohead. The lead singer didn’t say a one word until almost 25 minutes in (a “thanks” muttered over the shoulder as they changed songs) and didn’t equal that feat for another 10. Even the two encores were anticlimactic walk-throughs of some of the band’s most mediocre fan favorites. It is clear Toronto, Ontario did something to displease this usually interesting bunch because this time through Radiohead were definitely not worth the price of admission.

David Evans

in response to above got back from the show it was unreal such a tight band live - they didn’t need to talk in between shows the music speaks for itself. best band in the world today.

tom
August 16th, 2008

in between songs i mean

tom
August 16th, 2008

To David Evans:

How would you know what the “most mediocre fan favorites” are when you don’t even seem to know that much about the band itself? Who refers to Thom as, “the lead singer” ?!?! I have a sneaking suspicion David Evans is really Liam Gallagher in disguise.

zissou
August 16th, 2008

David Evans is a terrible troll… It was an absolutely amazing set, especially the 2nd encore which was simply breathtaking.

I was up in the pit and wow, it was great.

My third show of the summer, blew me away… Like Spinning Plates and Talk Show Host blew me away, I went nuts. I was down on the floor dead center 30 feet from stage, best show I’ve ever witnessed… Somber/Slower set, but quality nonetheless. Jonny Spoke!!!!

Alexander
August 16th, 2008

no national anthem?

J
August 16th, 2008

Damn… TSH & Morning Bell, jealous! Can’t wait for the Vancouver setlist!!

Camy
August 16th, 2008

It was an ok performance, but Thom’s vocals were a bit rough around the edges to say the least.

Frank
August 16th, 2008

My first time in Toronto, just an excuse to see RH… Seemed like a really great show, especially compared to the tour so far. Does anyone know what Colin came up to the mic to say towards the end of the set? The band seemed to enjoy it, but I couldn’t hear him over the screaming people. ;-)

Jeff
August 16th, 2008

This was my first time seeing Radiohead after being a fan for eight years. I must say, it sort of changed my views about the band. I knew before that much of the songwriting/creative force was directed by Thom but I never realized how much of a tzar he was.

Understandably, as they did all look a bit upset when they came out and the sound was messed on his organ for ‘Morning Bell’, I was taken aback none the less at how he interacted with the rest of the band while playing. The group dynamics between the other members, however, were incredible; it’s apparent that is responsible for much of the cool layering and melodic play in their songs (particularly between Ed and Jonny on some songs).

All considered, it was an excellent concert (no less for the light show ;)) which really gave me something to think about. Colin and Jon both wearing Grizzly Bear shirts made me appreciate the fact that they were supporting a band that not only shared vocal duties but much more, as I’m sure RH must once have.

ps- As mentioned above, they were a super-tight live band, of course. I was neither shocked or impressed by this, just incredibly pleased. :)

Colin
August 16th, 2008

i was in the pit. show was fantastic. was lucky enough to get a crumpled setlist that jonny greenwood was using. don`t know what liam gallagher…cough*, i mean `david evans` is going on about.

Zach
August 16th, 2008

For those that didn’t hear, there was a moment in Morning Bell when Thom’s organ cut out. The roadie ran over to fix it, but the song was a bit mangled by that point, and Thom stopped singing. The rest of the band continued through and Thom jumped back in for the end of it.

For me, the main set was simply pretty good, while the encore was absolutely stellar in every way possible. It was phenomenal.

Nimy
August 16th, 2008

Came to hear 4 classics…didn’t play a damn one. Lame.

pedro
August 16th, 2008

That was a fantastic night. Best concert I have ever seen!! Talk Show Host blew the roof off the MA. And to those saying that Thom’s voice was rough, thats untrue, he was stellar. Even Colin was impressed after Faust Arp and Like Spinning Plates and Videotape were some of the best performances I have ever seen.

Shrenuj
August 16th, 2008

i think is lame that you expected to hear classics

what?
August 16th, 2008

Wow…just wow….

SO many songs that I didn’t expect to hear…I’m so glad, hearing stuff like planet telex, Morning Bell, Talk Show Host!!!!, Like Spinning Plates, I would take those over Paranoid Android anyday (helps that I have seen them play a number of the big hits already..) I’ll take the non-radio play stuff anyday!

Andrew
August 16th, 2008

To the person above bitching about them not playing the 4 songs they wanted to hear. They dont just play for you, and they also cant read your mind to see what songs they should play. If you dont like it dont go to one of their concerts again.

As for me, this was my first Radiohead concert and it was easily the best concert i’ve ever seen (besides Muse last summer at Arrow Hall). They were so tight and didn’t seem to make one mistake. The setlist was well done, especially the encores. considering most concerts I go to where the band only plays about an hour and a half with about 20 songs, I feel like i truly got my money’s worth and more. I can’t wait for them to come around here again.

Ryan
August 16th, 2008

oh yeah, and have they played talk show host on any other dates this year? I know they dont play that too often

Ryan
August 16th, 2008

They played Molson PARK in BARRIE.
This IS the first time they have played the Molson Amphiteatre.
It ws fantastic.
Thank you Radioohead!!!!!!!!!!!!

amazing set list, too. so jealous right now.

August 16th, 2008

funniest part was during morning bell there was apparently something wrong with thoms keyboard and the roadie tried to fix it but ended up unplugging it altogether. thom just got up, stopped playing and started clapping sarcastically lol

August 17th, 2008

since no one answered my question, i’m gonnna try again ;-)

Does anyone know what Colin said when he came up to the mic?

Jeff
August 17th, 2008

to Jeff:
did Colin also come up to the mic to say something beside Jonny already doing that???

um
August 17th, 2008

It was Jonny. His exact words were: “Thom asked me to thank my favourite band in the world, Grizzly Bear. So thanks. Thanks to Grizzly Bear for the tour.” Thom: There you go, he speaks!

Also, Jonny messed up the beginning of PT and Thom said “Sorry, mate. We don’t know what the fuck you’re doing.”

k
August 17th, 2008

this was my 6th time seeing Radiohead, and probably up there with the best ones. talk show host! need i say more? amazing setlist overall.

did anyone else notice that at the very beginning (during 15 step), when Phil came in, his snare was turned off, and then a drum tech ran out to turn it on for him, and funnily enough, it was right before the break in the drums, when Phil could have done it himself. i saw Phil nod at the tech with abit of a laugh.

anyway, amazing show. one of the best i’ve seen. pyramid song, talk show host, street spirit, wolf at the door, airbag, all of in rainbows all at the same show? so so good.

Was it just me, or was “Creep” the intro to “Everything in its Right Place”?

(The answer is no, it’s not just me. It really was the intro)

James.
August 18th, 2008

james, one of my friends actually asked me if they were playing a remix version of creep during the into to eiirp, so you’re not alone!

matt
August 18th, 2008

wow, a remix version of creep, wonder what would it be like…

excellent setlist, those who went are lucky indeed.
they should play talk show host and spinning plates more often.
this forum is usually relatively free of trolls like mr. evans (if that is his real name), the sad, misguided soul that he is.. he could learn from the positive vibe on this site.

Loved it, loved it, loved it. My first Radiohead concert ever and definitely worth the wait. In section 305 behind a pole, but meh. Could still see pretty well for the most part. The Gloaming was killer, and the encores were superb. It all went way too fast. I officially had the best weekend ever!

karne
August 18th, 2008

amazing show. i was in section 302 also behind a pole, but the music was so good that it made up for it. the encores were probably my favourite part…for the second encore, my friend and i said “fuck it”, we ran out of our seats, past security, and closer (somewhat) to the stage.
a perfect ending to a great concert!

crazy how the rainbow appearances happened in both toronto AND montreal. is radiohead made up of gods?

5th time seeing them, better everytime. the show a year ago at the hummingbird was sick, but this was definitely a special show. rain cleared up, incredible light show, lots of energy and an iron clad set list. doesn’t get much better than that. best band out there. fact.

karne, the song that starts similar to the national anthem is climbing up the walls. jonny tunes into a radio station and adds effects. but i was so pleased to see the green lights, cuz climbing up the walls is so brilliant live.
