Jonny Greenwood’s guide to the Ondes Martenot

Posted on September 2nd, 2008.

As part of the BBC Proms coverage, Jonny Greenwood is doing a guide to the Ondes Martenot on BBC Radio 3. The Radiohead guitarist tells about the instrument used for several Radiohead songs as well as on his classical compositions.

BBC Music magazine list the broadcast for tonight (Tuesday September 2) as the ‘Proms Twenty Minutes’, between performances of Wagner’s Tristan and Isolde and Jonnys beloved Turangalila Symphony by Messiaen (7.30 - 9.45 pm).

Speaking of Jonny, here’s a photo Colin posted with the caption ‘No one will play scrabble with Jonny’

[thx Steve]

My mom would kick Jonny’s ass in Scrabble. It’s embarrassing, really, how someone who graduated from high school in the 1960s and only went on to beauty school can beat all of her graduate-level children in Scrabble . . .

yeah, I’ve just been listening to this, and in the twenty-minute in-between bit they have this French fella (I didn’t really catch his name) talking about the Ondes instead. I’m a little disappointed to be honest :c

I think it is pretty safe to say that there is SOMEONE out there who is willing to play scrabble with Jonny Greenwood.

I would. In fact he’s probably one of the only people in the world I would let win.

The Power of the Ondes ( 6 days left to listen) was interesting, Thomas Bloch explores this instrument in a nice way
