Radiohead to return to studio after tour
In a year where Radiohead spent most of the time touring, news about an upcoming Radiohead album would be too good to be true. Then again, here’s some good news. Radiohead are determined to work on album #8 after the tour.
Radiohead have announced exclusively to 6 Music that they’re in the process of writing a new album. After losing to Elbow for the Mercury Music Prize on Tuesday night (9 September) they told 6 Music they’d taken time out of playing live to put new tracks down and would be heading to the studio in the near future.
Colin Greenwood said they’d be heading back into the studio when they’d completed their current world tour: “We’ve finished the main bulk of it and we’re off to Japan in a couple of weeks to finish it off.”
And fully enthused about writing new stuff, Ed O’Brien chimed in: “We’re still talking about doing some stuff and we’re really excited about it. First we came off tour to do some writing and we wanted to just carry on doing it because it was so brilliant.”
– If you’re missing some news posts, that’s correct. They’re stuck in those internet tubes and trying very hard to push them out–

So basically nothing new, we already knew (from Ed) they’re going back to the studio in Nov., just shoddy journalism from the likes of Teletext and The-Fly that got us all excited for nothing.

ahem..”talking about”..their not actually doing anything atm. i’m sure after the US tour they are probably taking a break
and yeah they already said they planned on going back into the studio after the tour. Is this really news?
Dont expect another amnesiac type release

I heard Thom and Ed are on such bad terms that they won’t even go into the studio at the same time?

Aw, man! You smart ateasers stomped all over my excitement about a new album with your analysis and careful thinking. If only the mainstream US media were as smart as you guys/gals….
Adriaan, I had to reset my Safari browser again to see your home page. I don’t think this is normal.

I can just see Thom getting all pissy about this again. None of the band actually said the material was for an album, could be EPs or standalone singles etc

I hope this isn’t a case of overconfidence leading to a rushed album – if they cn make it as perfect and timeless as In Rainbows I don’t mind them taking time over it.

What’s this nonsense about Ed and Thom not getting along? Going into the studio to lay down tracks does not typically signify much except they’re beginning to work on new stuff. This band, as we all know, takes its sweet time getting it right. Then again, maybe a new approach would yield interesting results, a more spontaneous album could be a good thing. I certainly would like to hear what a Radiohead album recorded in 2 weeks would sound like.

They already have a few leftover songs (check the blackboard) that they could get down, also new material like Super Collider. Maybe they should do something different like a standalone single with a couple of b-sides.

No matter what happens. I hope they put more emphasis on recording next time around. In Rainbows sounded like Pro Tools sessions that were in held in someone’s basement (Nigel’s?) and I wasn’t particularly happy with a lot of Thom’s vocal takes on some of the songs either.
I’m hoping for a better “studio album” from my favorite band. Something a little stronger

…they should just come to NYC and give us a few concerts in a place [arena?] where I don’t have to stand for 14 hours listening to bands I don’t like in 90-plus degree weather in order to hold a spot to see The Greatest…

I think they’re going to use the South American tour in March/April as a sort of deadline to have some stuff done and then test it out on tour, much like what they did in 2006. I think we’ll probably see a new album around this time next year. Possibly. Hopefully.

CRAZY AWESOME!!!
I like how Radiohead doesn’t keep anyone waiting an extremely long time for new material. I can’t believe In Rainbows was released almost a year ago! Time goes to fast.

That’s great, I hope it is a full album and maybe just not a new single or EP. Either way, it will be enjoyable. Maybe another tour will be in the works too, but I’m not getting my hopes up.
