Radiohead live in Mexico City – Night 1

Posted on March 16th, 2009.

Radiohead played their first show in Mexico in 15 years last night. It’s also the first of two shows at Foro Sol in Mexico City. The band played a ‘regular setlist’ as they did on last year’s World Tour.

At some point during the show the audience started chanting: “Jonny! Jonny! Jonny!”. Jonny looked away, after Thom started pointing at Colin and the crowd started chanting: “Colin! Colin! Colin!” Then Colin pointed at Phil, who pointed at Ed, who pointed at Thom. The crowd got confused, Thom laughed and started playing and said: “Thanks for inviting us!”

Here’s the full setlist:

01 15 Step
02 Airbag
03 There, There
04 All I Need
05 Nude
06 Weird Fishes
07 The Gloaming
08 The National Anthem [Jonny's radio had a station on talking about problems related to urination to the audience's laughter]
09 Faust Arp [Thom almost messes up and laughs in the middle of the song]
10 No Surprises
11 Jigsaw Falling Into Place
12 Lucky
13 Reckoner
14 Optimistic
15 Idioteque
16 Fake Plastic Trees
17 Bodysnatchers

First Encore
18 Videotape
19 Paranoid Android
20 House of Cards
21 My Iron Lung
22 Street Spirit (fade out)

Second Encore
23 Pyramid Song
24 Just [Thom: "Are you ready?"]
25 The One I Love (REM)/Everything In Its Right Place

[thx Daniel]

I was most curuous of what Jonny would come out with in the radio. The narcos? The pederast priests? Zapatistas? No…

Before Everything In Its Right Place Thom started humming The One I Love and said 5 times This One Goes Out to The One I Love, then then gave a stab at Everything In Its Right Place

kraftwerk was WEIRD. I was in the pit but didn´t get to stay because the crowd was super rough, and I´ve heard the setlist before. I am hoping for Creep tonight, but will not dare to wait 15 hours in the sun and get squished in the pit this time. The pit crowd was so rough they were pushing and shoving and girls were gasping for air. right as the band came out people pushed toward the front so hard that I thought I was going to crack someone´s ribs just by being pushed against them. security guards coming from behind the pit tried to open path to let girls out past the rail but even they were getting pushed and shoved and could not move. I got scratched and bruises all over from when trying to get out of there. As I was making way to the back of the pit yelling in Spanish to let us out, guys were pulling my hair and clothes (I´m a girl) and shoving me and almost fell to the floor on one of those times. But anyways, sunburned and bruised and scratched but I´m going back tonight hehe. Oh yeah and the organization of foro sol to get in SUCKS BIG TIME. Not my favorite gig.

People chanted jonny right beforr fake plastic. You could see jonny was shy as he turned away but mustve felt really good as we just wenr crazy on his guitar during his solo. Ive seen radiohead 5 times live and never seen him so into the songs. And yeah the pit was really rough. First 4 song just werent enjoyable.

This was my 6th time seeing radiohead and I have some pretty good video of Ed jumping around during Paranoid android but yeah he was really into it. I just wished the setlist had more surprises since they have not played here in 15 years… The soundcheck was promising as they played knives out-i might be wrong. Maybe tonight. I know everyone dogs creep nowadays but hopefully they play it tonight, just for old times´sakes.

I meant to say i have video of Ed jumping at the last Dallas gig during Paranoid android, lol. So, I guess what I´m trying to say, nothing new. Tonight though, big hopes for tonight.

March 17th, 2009

I couldn’t be more opposed to what you’re saying Victor, the videos are there, the crowd was a lot better in the first gig, they sang all the songs, even the new ones! Which didn’t happened on the second gig. Go to youtube and what the videos. I was on General A the 2 nights, and the first night was a lot better.

I was there. And it was great. Jonny came out on the radio with “La hora nacional” (The national hour) cause this is the radio program for every radio stations on Sunday from 22:00 to 23:00. It’s a nice fact. They started “Everything in its right place” with REM’s “The one I love” and then turned into EIIRP… And Kraftwerk was also fantastic… Thanks RH, Gracias, vuelvan pronto.

encore 2 is fuckin primal. love it. REM cover, nice. glad they’re exploring what they can do with other peoples music. love when they do “after the gold rush” and “tell me why” by neil young. wish they were even more loose setlist wise, its probably light programming or some shit. fuck that though they need to break the final boundary. Live Setlists, I dare them to play a different show every night with no more than 10 repeated songs. those being their best songs.
