EMI release more Radiohead Deluxe Editions

Posted on June 19th, 2009.

EMI/Capitol are set to release new editions of Radiohead’s studio albums. After the first three Radiohead Deluxe Editions earlier this year, the record label will be issuing three more albums with the ‘Deluxe’ treatment this Summer.

In March Radiohead’s former record label released Deluxe Editions of the first three Radiohead albums, Pablo Honey, The Bends and OK Computer. It seemed like only a matter of time for EMI to put out the remaining three studio albums. On August 24 (Europe) and August 25 (North America) new editions of Kid A, Amnesiac and Hail To The Thief will be out, packed with b-sides, radio sessions and television appearances.

Besides the original Kid A album, the box will included another audio disc with a BBC Radio One Evening Session (4 tracks), live versions of Optimistic (from Victoria Park, Warrington) and True Love Waits (originally out on I Might Be Wrong: Live Recordings) and six tracks from the Canal+ sessions. The DVD includes three tracks from Later…with Jools Holland (The National Anthem, Morning Bell and Idioteque).

On Disc 2 of the Deluxe Edition of Amnesiac has b-sides from the Pyramid Song and Knives Out singles, a live version from Like Spinning Plates (also from I Might Be Wrong) and six more tracks from the Canal+ sessions. The DVD has videos made for Pyramid Song, Knives Out, I Might Be Wrong and Push/Pulk/Like Spinning Plates. Also included are Radiohead’s appearances at Top Of The Pops (Pyramid Song and Knives Out) and four more tracks from the Later…with Jools Holland recordings.

Hail To The Thief’s second disc comes with b-sides from the singles There There, Go To Sleep and 2+2=5. Two radio performances: Sail To The Moon from the Jo Whiley Show and Go To Sleep from the Zane Low Show. From the Com Lag EP comes the Earls Court recording of 2+2=5. On the DVD you can see the videos (There There, Go to Sleep, 2 + 2 = 5 and Sit Down. Stand Up), a live version of 2+2=5 (from the Belfort Festival) and four tracks from Later… with Jools Holland.

Guys, please don’t buy this. This is EMI’s attempt to make more money off of Radiohead’s success. They split with EMI before releasing In Rainbows so now EMI are just trying to rake in extra money. If you are a true Radiohead fan you won’t buy this.

so desperate.

I’m going to buy the 2 CD versions as I did the first three. At $20 you can’t go wrong for all the B-sides.

I love all these people saying “don’t buy” but you do realize Radiohead will be making money off it to.

Puppet, you should read the Breakfast with Ed interview.

Don’t buy these.

making money off other peoples success is how record labels pretty much work. true, EMI did pull some moves in response to Radiohead independent release of In Rainbows, but Radiohead will be going down in history as one of the greatest most influential bands, and 30 years from now, I bet you guys are going to wish you bought some of EMI’s recent Radiohead releases.

So Radiohead fan’s all around… dont feel bad if you want these collectors items that EMI is selling, all it means is that you are a Radiohead fan, and that by itself should benefit the band.

I wonder what’ll be their next step.

Release concert DVD’s that were broadcast on TV throughout the years?

Sweet.
To all the haters – RELAX

without EMI, Radiohead may not be what they are today. They gave them their brake, as they did with MANY recording artists. Sure they are gonna leech of them after they leave…tough economic times, and good on them for providing a fan friendly pack. I’m a collector, and i’ve been buying “OFFICIAL EMI” releases for years, not going to stop now

I understand all the arguments for and against these, but I will still be buying them simply because I think they represent value for money.

EMI may be a big nasty money-grabbing organisation, but I think the product they are offering is good value.

As for the band, I don’t know how royalties and stuff works, how much money, if any, they’ll see from these releases, but I bought In Rainbows, I’ll most likely download the second disc, and I’ll buy tickets to go see them live next time they’re in town, so they’ll get a good chunk of my wallet too.

ahh waste of fucking money. I already have the albums and all the CD2 has been bootlegged to buggery. EMI can go fuck themselves.

I would be so excited and happy about these releases if this was a pre-internet era. But I’ve enjoyed these “Deluxe” goodies for years now. In fact, Radiohead’s b-sides helped make them my favorite band.

This isn’t even news for an avid Radiohead fan.

["Worrywort" from Amnesiac's B-sides is just the greatest B-side recorded]

Radiohead should put out some new tunes now. To compete with all these reissues. They have the songs, lets here them.

Why do people want to illegally download these when they can just download the albums and the B-sides anyway?

Morons
June 24th, 2009

“remastered? buy it anyways? Who is going to master it better then nigel?”

Exactly–”remastered” just means they’ll play the loudness game & compress it all to hell. I’ll stick with my original vinyl & CD versions, thank you.

A “true fan” wont buy it? Where else can we get all of these things on CD? I don’t recall Radiohead bothering to get the Drill EP out there for us.

If there were true fan appreciators then all of this stuff would have been released already.

these reissues are lame, nothing that you can’t get anywhere else on these.
what is the point then???

armogi

Still, tops the lame reissues Morrisey recently did for Maladjsusted and Southpaw Grammar, although, at least on the southpaw re-issue there were a few unreleased songs. The Maladjusted one was lame.

Even though they are not under contract with EMI, Don’t Radiohead still make royalties on this? If so, then it’s fine to buy this, right?

richardhead
July 7th, 2009

LOL@ anyone saying “don’t buy these”, just because the band isn’t on the label anymore. I just bought the deluxe 3-disc version of Ok Computer, and it is the DEFNITIVE version of the ablum. The remastering brings it to life in unimaginable ways. So, the band didn’t pick out the art layout or consult with the label about the second disc, so what? They created all the songs, and that’s whats important. I bought this, and I wouldn’t be suprised if I buy Kid A and Amnesiac as well> (Not Hail to the Thief however, I am not a fan of that album)
