Thom Yorke included on Twilight sequel Soundtrack?

newmoonAccording to director Chris Weitz Thom Yorke is interested to be included on the soundtrack for ‘The Twilight Saga: New Moon’.

New Moon is the sequel to cinema blockbuster ‘Twilight’. The movie featured Radiohead’s ’15 Step’ in the closing credits of the film. The movie, which is opening in US theatres in November, 2009 features a score by Alexandre Desplat. While director Weitz is filming the final scenes, he told Rotten Tomatoes that they’ve just started to put together what bands are going to be on the soundtrack.

Weitz said that Thom Yorke and Kings of Leon are in talks to appear on the soundtrack. “We’ve got Alexandre Desplat, who I think is one of the greatest film composers living, and because of the strength of the franchise that I inherited, a lot of bands are really interested in working on the soundtrack. (…) Fortunately, I’m not at the stage where I have to turn anybody down yet, because everything is still kind of up in the air,” Weitz shared, “but I am surprised at some of the bands that have said they’re interested. It’s kind of great. The criterion will still always be what’s right for the movie at that given moment, but Thom Yorke is interested; we might, if we’re very lucky, get Kings of Leon to do something… it’s exciting to be able to have access to this kind of talent.”

THOM YORKE, KINGS OF LEON, AND TWILIGHT?

my three favorite things in life..?
    oh.. my god.

  • Luke

    welp.
    that’s rather sad.

  • ALy

    WHAT

  • Glitch

    wow…I’m very disappointed
The Twilight series is an unfortunate waste of peoples time.

  • zach

    :(

  • E.N

Thom Yorke might as well have just met Miley Cyrus. This is pretty much akin to that.. Okay, maybe that’s a bit harsh. Say the Jonas Brothers then?

  • Annie Oakley

    for shame Thom, for shame

  • u no hoo

just wanted to add a fuck you to goudvis. how’s admin school, pussy faggot.

  • katie

Please please please please don’t do this. :(

  • Collins

Well, people who enjoy the gloom part of his music are mostly fat, 30 year old women with very limited knowledge of how the opposite sex work. Twilight series fans love fictional males for this same reason. “Edward is such a perfect guy!” they say, ignoring the fact that if they made any effort then men might treat them like that.

Thom, we understand you have a family to support, but this is not the way to put food on the table.

You know? I feel like Thom hates us. I really do.

  • Eli_Cash

ok, so who’s going to pen the obligatory thom yorke and robert pattinson cheesecake?

  • last7

I’m not believing this until there is official word from the man himself. I don’t even know why they cleared 15 Step to be in the first movie. Sad day if this is true.

  • alice

    I’m very dissapointed too…

  • http://myspace.com/moonlight_0 Kemoushi

Pf. another silly film to watch.

  • Nick

Whatever. If it’s a new song I’ll just download it.

  • Deborah

‘The twilight saga’ based on the classic ‘Beauty and the Beast’ myth/tale. Lets pull it apart.
    Let’s not.
    It’s entertainment, escapism.
I’m hoping that Thom Yorke is on the soundtrack so that when my daughter asks to play her ipod in the car I have a better chance of hearing something much, much better.
    Please… no… more… Linkin Park… ugh.
    @ Collins
Lol. You want fat, 30yr old women, with no knowledge of how the opposite sex works, to behave better so that men can behave more like Edward.
Are you as deluded as these women?
I Maybe implying something here but you should stop trying to pull 30 yr old women with low self esteem. I’m sure the bitterness doesn’t do you justice.
THOM YORKE FOR THE NEW SOUNDTRACK.

  • Tamara

of course, it’s a hit movie. great promotional opportunity. Not that Kings or Thom need it… :-)

  • Scott

Thom Yorke is old and boring.

  • lube

as long as the music is good, who cares? radiohead and thom have never sounded better. if they were sacrificing their music somehow, then i would be bummed. i used to get annoyed when people would rip on the radiohead fanbase (because i consider myself to be maybe their biggest fan), but now i see where they are coming from. i personally hope to never see twilight, but if these movies somehow expose a younger generation to my favorite music in the world, i am all for it. i wish everybody in the world could enjoy this music. that makes me happy. you folks have a problem.

Scott… why are you on this web site if you share these thoughts? Just curious…

  • bingobongo

    ARGH NOONOONOONOOONOOONOOOO

  • http://mdespard.blogspot.com/ Max

This is unfortunate. I would imagine that Thom Yorke would have taste and standards.

That said, the sexism in the comments to this post is also very unfortunate.

  • Tara

I think Thom is doing this for his kids. maybe. I hope this news is fake though.

  • Laughing At You

Hahah way funny the mad comments in this post. You aren’t fans of MUSIC. You’re fans of IMAGE. Thats way funny.

  • Mark

Call me crazy but I have no problem with hearing new stuff from thom..

  • Muldfeld

I wish Radiohead’s music had been used in the 3rd and 4th politically insightful seasons of The 4400. Thom Yorke would have loved it. Such a shame the corporate hacks had to cancel it because it was a ratings loser and censored it for fear of offending nationalistic Americans.

  • OK_Kid

It makes sense that Thom Yorke would like Vampires. It doesn’t make sense that Thom Yorke would like Twilight. But it DOES make sense that Thom Yorke would like money so…put it together.

    Still….Twilght?

  • radiowowow

Isn’t it ironic that when they were on major record label their music wasn’t on shitty flavor-of-the-week chick flicks (minus Clueless, of course)?

  • Sph

You need ze monies? You can’t need the money *that* much!

Well… Either the director’s lying or Thom is genuinly interested in the film… which is worrying. Also, i don’t think he’s doing this for his kids, the oldest can’t be more than 10, and Twilight generally appeals to the whiny teenage girl demographic… correct me if i’m wrong.

  • yo

THE X-FILES was so much better option Thom. Damn

  • http://Everythingyoubelieveiswrong. d-.-b

    Posting in a thread.

  • Juliana

Nooo Thom, please don’t go in this way

  • Juliana

    And Sph,you’re absolutely right.

  • Gabriela

    Why?! :( I’m disappointed…

  • http://www.youtube.com/skysaw73 SubSickAlien

This is gotta be a case where someone from the Twilight camp is a huge fan of the band and just begged and begged for Radiohead to contribute music to the film. They probably had been begging since the first film.. In the end, Thom had to step up and offer a song he had laying around. Thom’s obviously not doing it for the money.

And plus… It’s not the first time. Remember Romeo & Juliet?

  • Amy

Well, I had a feeling this would happen.

I don’t mind it that much, my only fear is that it will bring in a bunch of Twilight fan girls saying that they love Thom Yorke or something.

    And that would be sad.

  • aaron

Much ado about nothing. Radiohead contributed the brilliant Talk Show Host to the Romeo and Juliet soundtrack as well as I think Fake Plastic Trees. I can not see this being for the money, I don’t think Thom is desperate for money at this point in his career. Also, I agree with the comment that people who criticize this move are more concerned about the image of the band than the music. The music continues to be bad ass as evident by In Rainbows. As long as the music does not suffer who cares. It did not hurt their image before and I don’t think it will hurt their image this time around. I think Thom and Radiohead are at the point where they have accomplished a lot and feel freed up to do whatever they want to do.

Plus I heard the Twilight books are good and Kristen Stewart is a good actress who is very very attractive.

  • http://www.MusicByDay.com Johnny Beatle

To everyone saying you are so disappointed. Why? What’s the big deal? Movie soundtracks are a good way to get people to hear your music. Sure Twilight is bullshit, but it’s popular bullshit.

  • Pi

I could not believe that Thom is interested in such a film.
I don’t want Radiohead’s music to be the soundtrack.

  • Pi

Maybe Thom is trying to let the mainstream buddies to hear his alternative stuff….

  • Abby

Thom, PLEEEEEEEEEEASE, PLEEEEEEEEEASE, do not go on twilight.
    PLEEEEEEEEEASE.
    Radiohead changed my life.

  • ysrckr

    radiohead, you changed my life
    now don’t ruin it…

  • http://completeexistentialmeltdown.blogspot.com jkc

twilight is not a proper venue for thom yorke or for radiohead. coldplay and the jonas brothers, maybe. not our beloved radiohead. it’s a good paycheck. can’t blame the boys for cashing in.

  • lalalala

a new song from RH is a new song from RH, in normal circumstances i’d be all amped and excited… except that i am a firm firm hater of the twilight series, both the lit and films. it just…. complicates it more for me ahaha

usually i just shrug and say “sure okay, they’ve paid their dues, they’ve tossed around the “mainstream” pool on many occasions, just let em do what they want to do, just as long as the music is top notch and the live shows are still breathtaking”

but i really hate twilight. i read almost all the books, which just fueled my dislike for the series even more.

this isn’t helping. i’m busting out the rosary and praying this just stays under the rumor category.

  • Sarah

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • Mini

ok, so the movie is silly, but the music in the first movie was actually very good! when I watched it I noticed that it was very well put together with the music. and with a little help from thom, it can only go up, right?

  • Jason

I’d rather have Radiohead as a whole show up in Harry potter. At least Potter is a good story. My eight year old niece can write better than the drivel that Meyer writes.

  • Adam

let’s not forget that the full band contributed a song to that awful version of romeo and juliet with claire danes. thom’s film sense just might not be as good as his music sense lol.

  • Bia14

It was hard enough to understand why 15 step was in this (silly) movie’s soundtrack anyway… guess it is only for money, unfortunatelly. Not even close to Jonny’s amazing contribution to There will be blood soundtrack.

  • yoyoyyo

Romeo & Juliet is fucking Shakespeare!! Do not even try to compare!

  • Leah

HEY – Maybe he’ll purposely write a shit song about how badly vampires suck…

    no pun intended.

Maybe it’ll be entitled “Death to Stephanie Meyer!”

  • Your worst nightmare

Whoever made that Chapman comment better be prepared to have parts of his body slowly cut off with a butter knife.

  • Puddingman

As far as Radiohead is concerned, film guy is Jonny not Thom. Thom might still be able to pull off fine music even if it’s not for a fine purpose.

  • TinySoupDragon

All the whiners on here who have nothing positive to say; Thom doesn’t owe you anything, it’s his life, his choices & if you don’t like it, too bad.
The suggestion that he’s endorsing the Twilight series for
materialistic reasons is laughable however one can imagine it pays well & again it’s none of your concerns. It’s his job & he works hard enough.
Funny & sad to realise that for a lot of people, it’s a matter of image indeed. You want Thom to be something specific that you can
    associate with the word ‘cool’
preferably & you have no interest in him as a person. So depressing.
As far as the Twilight series goes, from a filmmaker’s
perspective, it’s actually quite a good fare, it’s specifically well structured & unexpectedly
    refreshing.
Oh but wait…it’s so ‘uncool’ to say such a thing, isn’t it?
Here comes the ‘Cool Police’, I’d better get ready to kick their fascist asses.
    So Long.
