Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood declined to play guitar with the reunited band Magazine. Adam Buxton revealed that Jonny was probably just overwhelmed with the idea.
Magazine reformed this year, but without guitarist John McGeoch who passed away in 2004. The band played the Latitude Festival, where Thom Yorke played as well yesterday. Talking to BBC 6Music, Adam Buxton said: “Thom Yorke was saying they’d asked Jonny Greenwood if he would be up for playing. But I think Jonny was just overwhelmed, cause he’s the biggest Magazine fan in the world. He was just too shy, I think. I’m sure he’s got all those licks in his locker.”
Magazine with Howard Devoto (previously of Buzzcocks) and guitarist John McGeoch were named a big influence on Radiohead with their debut album ‘Real Life‘. Radiohead even covered their single ‘Shot by both sides’ at live shows years ago.
Adam Buxton, who directed the Scotch Mist webcast with Radiohead, told 6Music’s Tom Robinson he had also seen Thom Yorke play at the Latitude Festival. Adam: ” I thought it was wonderful. I was blissfully happy, I was purely joyfully, estaticly happy, several times. I enjoyed the whole thing, but 3 or 4 times I was aware that I was having the most fantastic time that I can remember at a live gig. He judged the mood perfectly, I thought.”
