New Radiohead track leaked?

Radiohead - These Are My Twisted WordsIt looks like a new Radiohead track has leaked. On the At Ease Message Board a track surfaced with the title ‘These Are My Twisted Words’.

The five and half minute long song is instrumental for the first half and then Thom Yorke’s voice kicks in. The source file of the track is accompanied with a cryptic message (below), listing the genre as ‘difficult’ and more interestingly a release date of August 17th 2009. It also states that this song is from a one-track advance cd.

Radiohead news on this day..

  • THOMAS

    that’s pretty cool.

sounds very influenced by Portishead – Third which Thom is/was a fan of.

  • http://basicsofseo.com basicsofseo..com

    I like it. Kinda groovy.

  • http://wirrow.com wirrow

    omg :D im so happy!

  • steve

the beginning sounds a bit along the lines of ‘like a weapon’… crypic and cool

  • http://underthought.wordpress.com Jonathan

What on earth is this? Can it really be new? If so, what was it recorded for and when? Are they about to drop an EP on us?

  • http://www.youtube.com/skysaw73 SubSickAlien

I’ve been listening to this over and over and I can’t get enough of it!! I agree with other people who’ve pointed out this being influenced by Portishead’s Third, which disproves anyone’s thinking this song might be some kind of outtake from years ago. I will now opt for having new songs more often than to having to wait years for a new LP.
    :D

    Another brilliant move.

  • pantrus

    subsickalien ! ! !

yes ! good words ! i love the new songs often stuff you said. it sounds so interesting as well that way .

    peace . I wish for more surprises on the17th ! !

the song makes me feel so great in the sense that if that s the new [ or just present ] direction i am more than IN ! ! ! he

  • Jono, Oxford

Hmmmm. Not too sure. Sounds like a bit of a B side. Hopefully it will grow on me. What’s with the release date stuff? Should we expect more?

  • stefano

    radiohead delivered this on purpose

  • stefano

they are advertising their NEW ALBUM or NEW STUFF that will be released on August 17th by the internet (mp3)… it’s so obvious! Thom Yorke himself delivered this track all over the web

  • coolestnameontheinternet

This is what I have to say: If Radiohead are behind this, i’m so happy. The media capitalists that want to rip off your clothes and show your testicles to the world, needs to be fucked. We need more mystery in art. Mystery and doubt is freedom, too much information and repetition is death. We want the music not the fucking sextapes. Yes, I want Thom Yorke to be an alien and those fucking journalists ruined it for me. Keep not doing interviews and work your magic. I’m made of ears.

  • DustintheAir

New song doesn’t equal new album. As some may remember, songs go on EPs too…

I wouldn’t read much into the “release date” until we have some official word, too. It wouldn’t be that hard for someone who got the leak to come up with a cryptic message and make up a release date.

And I highly doubt that Thom or anyone else in Radiohead would slip this out through the torrents and megaupload. If they wanted the music out there, they could just put it up on w.a.s.t.e. and deadairspace as they have in the past couple of years. Especially given their stated antipathy toward leaks of rough masters and demos in the past.

  • evacipated

well, that´s (almost) obviously thom´s voice by the second half of the song. but i have a hard time with it. maybe it´ll grow on me? and why wouldn´t they just release it via waste, just like they did with harry patch?

  • stefano

yeah, you’re maybe right DustintheAir, but no-ones saying they will release all their music on torrents… this new track is maybe a way to advertise their upcoming album or EP that will be on w.a.s.t.e on August 17th, who knows? if this was made by a mad fan, then he has my pat on the back and congratulations for such a brilliant idea and such a surprise!

  • stefano

this way of release is much more “mysterious” than if it’s on w.a.s.t.e….

  • DustintheAir

it is more mysterious, but also potentially much less legit. Based on past leaks – the real and the fake tracks made by fans – I’m not going to get my hopes up. I’d rather be pleasantly surprised by a release then disappointed by a fake.

  • Arturo

This is perfectly in synch with what Thom just told Believer Magazine. The message is written like an info file from an mp3 piracy group, which is pretty neat. The tone/style of writing is as Thomish as it can possibly get so I’m fairly sure it’s from him. Not sure what’s up with the Aug. 17 date but I’m hoping it’s an EP. I don’t think an LP is on the table given what they have been saying lately.

Here is the bit from Believer:

New York – Radiohead, the British band famous for releasing its latest album, “In Rainbows,” online in a pay-what-you-want model, told Believer magazine that it does not plan to release another standard full-length album, and will instead offer downloadable singles and multi-track EPs, All Things D reported.

“None of us want to go into that creative hoo-ha of a long-play record again. Not straight off,” singer Thom Yorke told Believer.

“I mean, it’s just become a real drag. It worked with ‘In Rainbows’ because we had a real fixed idea about where we were going. But we’ve all said that we can’t possibly dive into that again. It’ll kill us.”

They like to stir the fans up, do Radiohead. Lets just say keep your eyes peeled for Monday.

  • Keturah G.

Release date on the 17′th? Happy birthday to me!!!

  • Jay

Keep in mind that In Rainbows was available for purchase 9 days after it was announced on DAS.

There’s a possibility that something could be coming our way in the very near future.

  • Vito

Sounds great and all, but I hope this isn’t the final product. Kinda sounds like Thom did by himself (drumming doesn’t sound like phil). Either Ed or Nigel made all that ruckus in the background, but it was definitely extended effort.

  • Jonz

the song is very sonic youth-like as well

  • er

    phil’s drumming is incredibly underrated.

  • jonathan

sounds kinda crap imo, just guitar doodling…

are they trying to compete with Muse or something? hurry up and release Present Tense!! :(

  • Mike

Kind of a shite song, if you ask me. I could’ve done without it.

  • Luke

Ooooooh man! I come home from work and discover that a new Radiohead song has leaked and it’s quite good.

I for one hope that “Spooks” will also make its way onto the same release because I really liked one and it sounds kinda similar in nature to this.

Harry Patch was shit, but this song renews my faith in the band. I do also agree that this one sounds more like a b-side, but it’s fine with me. Just no more shitty vocals like on Harry Patch

    Thanks

This tune is stupidly good. It’s been swirling around my head for hours now. Get it on repeat

I sure hope that isn’t radiohead as they are musically much better than that.

  • The Scientist

is it me or does the the beginning sound like the end of another track? (listen closely too drums)

I think it’s really cool how Colin is playing a basline in 5 while Phil is drumming in 4! Kind of reminds me of Let Down in that sense

    Chilling. In a good way.

  • Sam

    Love it!

  • Raymond Swartz

    Ive been listening close
    and dug my own holes
the best one reaches to the Heaven
    And He always takes hold
So ill wait for the ones to kick me in my shins
just sitting here laughing with a grin
    Can’t wait to tell you
    how much i love you
punched in my mouth for talking like this
your soul is the one youre going to miss
so do you want to hear
so do you want to listen
then those who have ears hear
and those who have eyes see
youre all just livin in a fantasy world
    disconnected and so upsurd
they tell you youre so ugly
    please please except me
    for a charge
    for a trade
    of your soul

    Realy nice Track :)
When it’s true and they’ll release it on 17th August, it will be damn great birthday present for me :D
Like somebody said before, really reminds me a bit of Silence or Hunter by Portishead.
