Wait, what?! True Love Waits? With a Rhodes synth?! I don’t even know what that means that means, but I’m interested!

Also wondering if they’ll actually play an acousic version of Harry Patch. That’d be neat.

based on it being before EIIRP, I’d assume it was just the True Love Waits intro mix in, but I’d still be very happy to see a video of a possible full version pop up online

Nice Dream and TLW and Twisted Words! Muy Bueno!

Although I’m always slightly disappointed when EIIRP ends a show…

True Love Waits was the usual snippet intro before EEIRP – although I think Thom sang the whole lyrics. I also don’t like EEIRP as a closer. I believe they soundchecked a piece of REM’s “Drive”. Kafka – Franz Kafka, famous Czech writer. An unusual set, a lot of calmer songs, not a lot of hits, but also not many rarities. Thom kept breaking the drum kit apart during Bangers, so they struggled to keep the rhythm, and after that they played Bodysnatchers too slow for the 1st half of the song. Sometimes the sound balance wasn’t quite stellar (e.g. Reckoner sounded a bit flat compared to usual lush arrangement). The band seemed to have fun, but the show often didn’t quite catch fire.

I don’t mind EIIRP being in the set I don’t think it’s special enough to end a show. I enjoyed lucky finishing the set… or karma police or paranoid android. EIIRP seems a bit anticlimactic to me. And it was a bit annoying when it went on for 11 minutes or whatever. There was a time and place for Genesis and thankfully that passed. Eme

Wow those are amazing pictures.

I think it was a really really amazing show. In my view idioteque was the true highlight, but so many other songs were amazing (Morning Bell, Lucky, Exit Music…)

I loved the show, my one & only for this year and it was worth the trip. The sound was punchier than normal, the drums were great – they often seem to me to be far back in the mix – and the band seemed in great spirits. After some disorganisation with queueing & entry, and some wankers causing altercations at the front, it all settled down and we had a terrific show. Arpeggi, Nice Dream and Reckoner were highlights and some of the songs got the best performances I’ve seen, especially Exit Music. And I enjoyed exploring Prague.

Great setlist, especially Nice Dream. Thought that had been put back on the shelf for a while.

Who the fuck else would dedicate a song to Kafka? Fucking legends.

Rhodes synth sounds like the debut version of True Love Waits. Yes? No?

Dimba
August 25th, 2009

Dimba, they’ve done the Rhodes version of TLW before. I saw them do it at Meadowbank in 06, and I’m sure they’d already done it at least once before that. I really like this way of doing it – very dreamy.

August 25th, 2009

Oh, okay. Sounds like it was a lead-in to Everything in its Right Place. I was thinking of the original, first version of the song that they played, which had Thom on guitar and then towards the end there was a really cool keyboard part.

Nice pics, Klappa! (Although that’s one hell of a creepy face Jonny is making in 16!) :D

The concert was thoroughly enjoyable: the crowd welcomed the band very warmly and the band seemed to be in a really good mood – partly due to the excited welcome, I’m sure. Mellow but energetic at the same time, which sounds weird, I know. Quite unlike any other gig I’ve seen before.

Thom didn’t talk too much which was probably a good idea, since there seemed to be a slight language gap between the audience and the band (with Thom jokingly asking to translate “you need to get down with the person next to you” or something like that at the beginning of Wolf at the Door). :D

August 26th, 2009

in response to tiina…thom says something along the lines of, “now you all need to get down this next tune,” and it was before bangers n’ mash (the studio version is much better than the live version in my opinion)

mainmayne
August 27th, 2009

***”now you all need to get down to this next tune”

mainmayne
August 27th, 2009

Well, it was me who got it all wrong the and even remember the tune wrong, haha! Anyway, kind of a weird silence after that…

Otherwise, the response from the crowd was amazing (as it should be). This was probably the best crowd I’ve seen in a Radiohead gig (no loud talking during the songs as in most places, no pushing or shoving, everyone showing their appreciation to the band etc.)

Also, most of the arrangements were superb, although it was a bit weird to drink beer from cups they didn’t wash after each user… But at least the beer was really good. :)

Thank you Radiohead and thank you Prague (and sorry for the excessive references to the beer)! ;)
