Thom Yorke to perform Age of Stupid title track

Posted on September 1st, 2009.

The news on Thom Yorke’s activities is piling up. We’ve got Thom’s contribution to the Mark Mulcahy tribute album (‘All For The Best‘), a two track 12″ vinyl release (‘Apart By Horses’ b/w ‘The Hollow Earth’) and we can now add the title track for the movie ‘The Age Of Stupid’.

Thom Yorke will also do an acoustic performance of the title track of ‘The Age Of Stupid’, Paste reports. The film will premiere simultaneously in 450 theaters around the world on September 21. ‘The Age of Stupid’ is a 90-minute film about climate change, set in the future. Oscar-nominated Pete Postlethwaite stars as a man living alone in the devasted world of 2055, looking back at footage from 2007 and asking: why didn’t we stop climate change when we had the chance?

Following the viewing, director Franny Armstrong and producer Lizzie Gillet will be joined by world-renowned scientists, celebrities and political figures including former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan, and Age Of Stupid actors Gillian Anderson and Pete Postlethwaite for a LIVE and inspiring panel discussion during The Age of Stupid LIVE from New York. Audiences will also hear from field scientists working in the Himalayas and Indonesian rain forest live via satellite. Thom Yorke will wrap up the event with an acoustic performance of the film’s title track.

Tickets for The Age of Stupid LIVE from New York on Sept. 21st at 7:30 p.m. Eastern / 6:30 p.m. Central / 5:30 p.m. Mountain and 8:00 p.m. Pacific (tape delayed) are available at participating theater box offices and online at www.FathomEvents.com. For a complete list of theater locations and prices, please visit the Web site (theaters and participants are subject to change). Information on the documentary and climate change can be found at www.ageofstupid.net.

It’s a good film. An important one. One you should watch.

So if Thom’s performing an ‘acoustic version’ of the title track, does that mean he’s also performing a studio version of said track?

Hope he plans to do this via satellite like the Conan appearance. Seems like a boner move to fly to NY (burn off generous amount of carbon) just for one song when promoting a film about Climate Change. Unless he’s got some other things to do in NY that require some face time of course.

When i saw the film back in . . . march sometime i think, “Reckoner” was the track at the end credits. It was the same setup too but no Thom at the webcast :(
It was a little far-fetched film, kinda rubbish.

Well, at least we’ll get Gillian Anderson and Thom Yorke on the same stage, for once. He should perform Subterranean Homesick Alien while she fucks with the projector so it plays Jose Chung’s From Outer Space, instead of this film which is probably as bad as it is well intentioned. Not that I wanna prejudge…

This film enraged me, nearly brought me to tears. And I understand the propagandistic moments of the film as what they are. That wasn’t what got me. It was the fact that it’s for real this time around. There is no turning back.
