Thom Yorke forms new band, announces live shows
Thom Yorke has formed a new band with Joey Waronker, Mauro Refosco, Flea and Nigel Godrich. The band are going to play music from Thom’s album ‘The Eraser’ and the recently released tracks. There are two shows scheduled for early October in Los Angeles.
Thom spent some time in Los Angeles for a while now and there was a lot of speculation on what was going on… and now we know. A new band with drummer Joey Waronker, who played on most of Beck’s records. Mauro Refosco did percussion on records by David Byrne and Bebel Gilberto. Flea, the bass player of Red Hot Chili Peppers needs no introduction. And neither does long-time Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich, who also produced Thom Yorke’s releases. The band will be playing live for two shows at the L.A. Orpheum Theatre.
Here’s Thom’s message on Dead Air Space:
hi
in the past couple of weeks i’ve been getting a band together for fun to play the eraser stuff live and the new songs etc.. to see if it could work!
here’s a photo.. its me, joey waronker, mauro refosco, flea and nigel godrich.at the beginning of october the 4th and 5th we are going to do a couple of shows at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles.
we don’t really have a name and the set will not be very long cuz ..well …we haven’t got that much material yet!
but come and check it out if you are in the area. we’ve also got locals Lucky Dragons playing.

I hope that Tom doesn’t leave Radiohead because they are one of my fave bands. I guess this is just a side project so he can do other stuff. Goodluck Thom!

just one more thing_we keep referring to the eraser and FPABH but dont forget that is more material and we also have Spitting Feathers [ yes i have everything i could get hands on from RD and TY ] and Spitting Feathers has huge big great ideas , as well, to be played live__i wrote on green plastic a lot already but i mention that i woke up the next day [ today ] of the good news and i still of course feel the same __this is a huge gift for music lovers and RH TY followers_
pantrus
ps:even TY said on his words that the show [ wich i wont be able to assist ] would be short because there is not too much material yet but i know i can put up easily a great TY [ new band with no name ? ] 2 hrs show [ no necesary adding songs ] with the solo material _so if i think that imagine what the genius [ the band ] can do_peace

I am a bit saddened and confused as to why Thom couldn’t do this in the UK, he preaches so much about energy conservation and I feel that he could quite easily do this project in the UK, with some local artists, instead of flying back and forth to the most plastic place on earth.
hmm it does sound a wee bit interesting though..

It´s too sad to know that these concerts wont be played in southamerica. I had the opportunity to see them just once in Buenos Aires, and it was the most breathtaking experience. I love Thom Yorke, he is brilliant in all the things he do, but I really hope that this wont be the begining of the end of Radiohead. It´s sad to think that I could only see my favorite band just once and after seeing them they split up. I hope not. Please!.

You guys seem more tame than the nuts at Greenplastic. I personally don’t mind. Beck is a gret artist. Granted, Odelay and Mellow Gold are much better than Modern Guilt and The Information, but he’s doing great stuff nowadays.
Looks like a fun time. Whoever goes, please record and youtube it. Please.

I thought Joey Waronker did a great job drumming for REM after Bill Berry left, so it’s nice to hear that he’s part of Thom’s band. Can’t wait to read the reviews of the shows.

Do you people even read??
“i’ve been getting a band together FOR FUN to play the eraser stuff live and the new songs etc.. to see if it could work!”
anytime anyone does something “for fun” it’s not really that serious….
He isn’t leaving the band, he did it because if radiohead played thom yorke stuff it would be….well basically radiohead….
he wants to differentiate his solo material from radiohead songs, people need to sue their brains for once and see this for what it is, an eraser tour, that’s it!

Look out everyone’s hysterical!!
In the end remember Thom’s a business man just like every other artist. He wouldn’t give up Radiohead to form a B list of musical characters. They’re all just friends wanting to try something out…so what RELAX already.

I’m not a big fan of RHCP but I think that Flea’s melodic yet funky style and technique under Thom’s direction can have some amazing results. This should be great…especially knowing that they will all be having so much fun on stage.
Going on both nights!! woohoo!

people also need to remember that flea is behind lots of other stuff too… ie Mars Volta! He’s not just a twat who plays slap fifths all the time.
The people are moaning were the same who moaned that the rh days are over when the eraser was being released (during a major pre-album tour), now its happening after rh have played some major dates in the UK and Europe.
We know radiohead is still functioning since we have new stuff like twisted words etc.
Also, no-one thinks they’re splitting with Jonny’s solo work, nor Ed and Phil trotting off to NZ to work with the Finns.
