Thom Yorke Band – Live at Orpheum Theatre – Night 1

Thom Yorke played the first of two shows at the Los Angeles Orpheum Theater with his newly formed band. The setlist did not get at all unexpected since the warm-up show gave a lot away already.

The band with Thom Yorke, Flea, Nigel Godrich, Joey Waronker and Mauro Refosco had the same setlist as Friday’s show at the Echoplex, apart from ‘Skirting On The Surface’. However, Thom Yorke threw the song ‘Super Collider’ in, right after ‘Open The Floodgates’. ‘Super Collider’ has been played at a handful of Radiohead shows on their 2008 tour. Thom decicated ‘Paperbag Writer’ to Colin Greeenwood, who was in the audience. ‘Lotus Flower’ was played again, but Thom said he hasn’t deciced on the title yet, could also be ‘Moon Upon A Stick’. Thom revealed it’s a song he’s been working on with Radiohead. Check the videos below.

  • it was GREAT x1000. :]

  • im so jealous. wish i could be there. I can dream of an australian tour…….

  • dammit… Lotus Flower just overwhelms me, utterly. beautiful. I have no words.

  • i am so . . . incredibly happy____ sometimes things [ huge things like this ] don t happen in years and years ____he gave a lot to us with this ____and colin was in the audience ? man ___that s too much__thank you thom yorke for putting this together ! !

ps: i don t even know how to express how happy i am about all this___

  • I think people are making a mistake on “Lotus Flower.” Its alternate title is “Moon On a Stick” because it’s about the Chinese delicacy of mooncakes, which are made from lotus flour. Uncannily, Yorke has debuted this song just in time for the Chinese mid-Autumn festival on October 3-5.

  • Did anyone else see Jonny there?

my friend saw him downstairs at the bar. I’m assuming he came along with Colin.

  • I can confirm that he said moon-on-a-stick and not “upon.”

  • such an amazing show. seeing the eraser performed live was a privilege, and i thought that every song was even better live.

  • [...] you can check out some of the new songs here on At Ease, a Radiohead fan [...]

  • not sure that jonny was there. colin scurried right by me on our way out of the theater (he was going the opposite way) and jonny was not with him…whatever that means.

  • Was there an opening band or did Thom start right at 8PM?

  • very nice. anyone else hearing ‘Follow me around’ in the verse of lotus flowers?

  • was it thom’s bday? my brother told me that everyone was invited to an afterparty, no?

  • Super Collider and Open the Floodgates…words can’t describe their beauty. Ridiculously amazing.

And yeah I’m def hearing Follow me Around in Lotus Flower. Not that that’s a bad thing.

  • he started just before 9, there was an opening act

  • Thom did invite everyone to an after party… but conveniently didn’t mention where it was!

  • Paperbag Writer was amazingly incredible! Flea on bass rocked it!

  • totally agree:lotus flowers/moon upon reminds me a lot to Follow me Around. Good news hearing that his working on the song with Radiohead :)

  • Yay! New songs! It’s about time!

  • Super Col-fucking-lider!! Excellent performance of that, Thom. I’m beyond glad it’s sticking around.

  • Wait,
    Jonny was there?!

    cause I don’t think so…
    someone else saw him?

  • Didn’t see Jonny but I got to say hi to Colin at the bar and he was nice enough to pretend to remember me from Spain some years ago (I ran into him at a train station and translated some info for him…also met his wife…they were really nice back then too).

Super Collider was amazing…I’ll be posting some videos on youtube soon. =)

Oh…is it just me did Flea screw up the outro in Cymbal Rush?

  • WEll something was screwed up on the outro to cymbal rush, couldn’t quite put my finger on it but you might be right.

Granted flea did the rest of the show amazingly well, i’ll cut him some slack :)

  • I’m not liking the falsettos in Lotus Flower, Thom. Sounds rather shit
