Huh. Very different. I like it, but I don’t love it. But I can see this growing on me quite a bit.

all these new thom tracks coming out don’t seem as good as the radiohead catalog…but they are damn fucking good nonetheless.

I can’t anderstand… Why such great artists participating in the soundtrack of a series of stinkers?

it’s rather excellent – thom you’ve done it again

that movie doesn’t deserve music as good as this though…

I like how different it is. It has a Joy Division feel to it. Its nice to see Thom always trying something new, its a great way not to get bored and quit music.

What is with Thom these days and slapping shitloads of reverb on his vocals? Hes ruining the songs ¬¬

“It has a Joy Division feel to it”

That’s exactly what I thought! Thom definitely going into Ian Curtis in places and the beat.

the lyrics are impressing … as far as I can understand them, they fit my current situation….

but I am a bit afraid the fans of the new moon movies etc. suddenly discover thom yorke and he gets too famous :(

Holy mother! I cant believe it! The soundtrack is so good
i think i Will watch the movie just because of it!
Thom, Muse, Bon Iver, Death Cab and Black Rebel in the same movie?! What is left to ask?

It is very trance- like. It’s one of the best things this man has ever created in my opinion!

Everything that I’ve heard since Super Collider (a pretty good song imho), that has come (at least in part) from Thom lately, has been pretty mediocre tbh.
E.g. this song is probably the worst culprit so far (uninspired/unimaginative/middle-of-the-road)
I’m indifferent to it.

(the only thing I’m looking forward to in the near-future from any of the band members is Phil’s album – and I don’t think I’ll be disappointed from what I’ve already heard from him)

I don’t get it, why people don’t want that Thom Yorke would make some good money from New moon?
I’m just happy that he is creating something, and I’m so happy for listening for this piece of art!!!!
So people – shut up and enjoy.

ps. sorry for English;]

Good stuff this one. usually I don’t listen to songs on repeat, but this one I played umpteen times today. It has everything, the atmosphere, the melody, actually it is pretty pretty commercial for his standards, but it is a good thing, and of course it has fantastic studio production. A whole album of songs like that might be boring but this one off is really sweet.

Janusz
October 12th, 2009

Digging the synth bass. Pretty sure it’s a Moog Voyager and he’s using the touch screen for the glitchy effects.

Agree that this has a bit of a Joy Division/New Order vibe, which I definitely like.

OBVIOUSLY WAS MADE ONLY FOR THAT FREAKIN’ MOVIE… THIS IS MADE IT FOR IT.. IT’S NOT THOM’S INSPIRATION.

anne, you are a tard. You are worried about Thom getting too famous……too famous for what???

ruzz
October 12th, 2009

… Actually, the music part of this track(i.e. not the lyrics) is built mostly out of a track call “Dead” which appears on Christoph De Babalon’s album “If you are into it I am out of it”. This makes sense sport fans because Thom Yorke is a big fan of Christoph De Babalon. How could I be so perceptive?

Reminds me slightly of Rats Nest, which I like so no complaints here.

Amen to the Joy Division comments too.

although i’ve really liked things on in_rainbows and the eraser, nothing’s grabbed me quite like this since amnesiac. it’s brilliant. although it’s minimal, it’s still haunting and dense…very influenced by the bpitchcontrol stuff…i think it’s one of the best things he’s ever done.

mario
October 12th, 2009

I really like this!!!!
Good work Thom! I feel that a lot of his other work from the eraser can feel a little
disjointed, but i feel that is easier on the ear. And has that usual Yorke escapism feel to it!

October 13th, 2009

Hmmm, definitely agreeing on the Joy Division comments, very industrial post-punk but more modern. Wouldn’t mind listening to a club remix of this. It’s a cool song to dance to! That new moon excuse of a film got a really good soundtrack, wtf?? and meanwhile there are beautiful films that have to settle for second-fiddle soundtracks because they lack the commercial appeal/financial backing. NOT fair.

@ K – I think this song is nothing special. just a nice tune, too easy in listening given the standards Radiohead and Yorke have offered so far. I love to listen to new material dozen of times to discover all hidden layers, eerie sounds, notes, to enjoy the complicated structures, etc. I can’t say I’m eager to do so with Hearing Damage. nevertheless it is a decent song, all in all.
@ Luke – The Gloaming is MUCH MUCH better, it is a sophisticated masterpiece imo. there’s only Thom’s reverberating voice that make these songs a bit similar and that’s all… (imo – again) : )

I don’t think this is very diferent from other thom yorke’s work…i absolutely love it…not sure about Thom and twilight…but lets forget about the movie and Thom’s reputation as well…this is a really good piece of music…and do not forget the fact that he’s getting older now…as everyone…so why not trying other things…i’m not talking about music but actions he did and will do.Whatever, this song is pure thom yorke and the reverb make it sound better…i think his voice is better with it (my opinion)…depends of the song’s vibe…i like it when there’s no effect but for songs like that, it’s kind of…appropriate.

the reverb makes it sound awesome. i mean just imagine thom yorke an evil baron or duke in a casltle in which he is the only inhabitant for the moment. singing the songs. the sounds leave his mouth and the sound traveling down the hallways is the eerie reverb.

It’s so atmospheric and instense like Burial & Joy Division.
The best of the new songs this year.
I hope it can be released on it’s own merit, away from Twilight.

I think dude meant digital delay instead of Reverb, but regardless: sounds amazing. some songs appropriate, some not. It’s his vision and it is fully realized, so it seems odd to nitpick. Twisted Words is beautiful too, showing Jonny and Thom are still at the height of their creative powers. Good news for R-head fans…

Quite a nice song, lyrics are slightly awkward at one point, can’t touch anything on the eraser, the 12″ or these are my twisted words though in my opinion… Would prefer a studio version of the present tense to be honest.
