Thom Yorke wrote three new songs for Tibet documentary

Just before the weekend we reported about Thom Yorke’s work for the Tibet Documentary. It turns we’re getting more than just one song on the soundtrack.

When The Dragon Swallowed The Sun’ is the documentary on the inside perspective on the Tibetan movement to free Tibet from Chinese occupation, its internal conflicts and contradictions. More details are now available. In an interview TwentyFoutBit director Dirk Simin revealed that Thom Yorke wrote three new songs for a particular chapter of the film. Damien Rice has also written a song for the documentary and composer Philip Glass has penned the main theme for the film, including a piece for a key “grand finale” sequence. The premiere is expected early this year.

There’s very little that Radiohead can do about China’s occupation of Tibet, since so few of those who influence this policy are fans of the band; same problem with Darfur or Iran. However, speaking out on more controversial topics like the Israeli occupation would have a far greater effect, since so many Radiohead fans are voters in North America and Britain, which has taken a greater pro-Israeli stance since Tony Blair. Why not speak out? As Noam Chomsky (someone Yorke helped get me curious about) has said, the more threatening the statement is to the powers that be, the harder it is to say it; it’s easy to say stuff when it’ll have minor ramifications.

The last time, fans had an inkling of Thom Yorke’s rightful distaste for Israeli brutality was during the massacre of Lebanon in 2006. It’s been a long while since then, and Radiohead could actually have a real impact. Come on, boys.

Oh shut up, you choose your issues and they’ll choose theirs. I wonder of the songs are lotus flower, skirting on the surface and the other one he performed in LA I can’t remember. I say its a good chance
