Rolling Stone: Thom Yorke Eco-friendliest Rocker

Rolling Stone made a Top 15 of Eco-Friendly musicians. Radiohead’s Thom Yorke topped the list, beating Sheryl Crow, Don Henley and Perry Farrell.

The life of a musician is known for its excesses. But the abuse stars do to their bodies doesn’t even compare to the toll that recording, releasing and performing music takes on the environment: Just one stadium show might produce as much as 1,000 tons of carbon dioxide. The good news is that increasingly artists are attempting to take responsibility and move toward greener alternatives, either by cutting back on their use of harmful products like fuel and plastic or by devoting time and money to promoting environmental causes. Here’s a look at 15 artists on the forefront of a still-growing movement.

    How is he eco-friendly?
By hanging out with people who want to destroy our countries by heavy taxes?
Thom is cool by his music but he knows nothing about the evil that is trying to control every aspect of our lives.
I hate the fact that Thom is talking with the very people who lie to us about war and Oligarchy control.
These “control freaks” do not care about us. They want to punish us because of our freedoms.
If I ever meet Thom I would tell him to snap out of this stupid pursuit of political, economical, and social control.
These people do not care if we suffer. As long as they get the money and more “big brother”.
May God forgive them for they know not what they do.
    Thom Yorke, I forgive you.
    STOP WITH THIS MADNESS!

I can’t stand hearing Thom go on about the environment all the time. It detracts from my love of Radiohead, and makes me want to yell “shut up” at him.
I care about the environment, but I don’t need people constantly whining about it to me, especially the lead singers of my favourite bands.

ok all you people talking shit about thoms helpful contributions to this planet need to fuck off and go bother another website with your meaningless comments. thank you.

Thom is the greatest and can do no wrong!

Sadly, people seem to prefer entertainment to art

    and art to artists.

when the people who create for the citizens protest and express human characteristics, the citizens don’t want this to get in the way of the art product.

when meaning is added to a piece by the artist, the spectators choose to ignore it as much as possible and reduce the piece to fit with their own emotions.

emotionality seems to be the only characteristic valued by the public when it comes to art. when there is interferences to their connection with these emotional aspects (i.e. the artist shows his agenda, political, religious, philosophical etc) the citizens feel disturbed and interrupted in their indulgences.

If Thom was to say let us have electric cars and solar panels on our roofs and computer controlled operations with no control I would definitely be down for “green peace”. When it comes to taxes and the filthy rich forcing us to pay more money for old technology, I say NO.

  • Raymond Swartz

And by the way. When Radiohead is taxed because of all that wasted fuel he uses to tour. Who do you think is going to pay for “green peace”? Its the ticket holders and a “new tax”.
The entire solar system is heating up. Stop with the bullshit already!

I’m pretty much in agreeance with everybody here. I’m only eco-friendly to the extent that it doesn’t inhibit my standard of living. We should be actively conscious of pollution, and other man-attributed disruptions of nature, but taxing people, I draw line. Perhaps not as much, if this was an urgent issue, but with the recent leaks of “global warming” data, it’s evident that this is only another attempt at big-governmental corporations feeling their way into our pockets. Considering how seemingly disillusioned Thom is regarding the issue of governmental control, it’s bit ironic that he’d be so susceptible to such blatant corruption.

All efforts made by the government are ulterior, their only incentive is strike rich at the expense of the tax payers. This isn’t a legitimate effort at reducing carbon emissions; it’ll only be embezzled and superseded with false data. But good news, man-made global warming is a myth. The world’s climate has been changing for thousands of years. One only needs to refer themselves to a Charles Dickens book, which took place during the Industrial Revolution, and exhibited some of the coldest recorded temperatures, to realize this is a farce. The weather fluctuates, as do the supposed “shrinking” polar ice caps. Within 5 years of the contraction, they return to normal. These scientists are very selective in their research, only reporting the apparent abnormalities, then refraining, with the addition of new data, admitting where they erred, perhaps due to the influence of governmental funding? I hope some of you see the fallacies regarding man-made climate change, and as result investigate the subject further. It’s frustrating how aloof some people are.

For this type of small pea brain talk, if you can’t grasp large scale of global warming, start with small scale – for the sake of eco and environmental destruction we are facing today!

All this talk of government control, blah, blah, blah! You totally contradict your value from the start. Most governments already side with big corporations and the wealthy by giving them green lights and generous subsidy, and you are opposing to taxing them???

Each individual can only do so much to control carbon footprint, only government regulations will significantly cut pollution and alter infrastructures engraved in our daily life, make it convenient and possible.

It is so convenient for you nay sayers to draw conclusion by saying the climate has always been changing since eon, so you don’t have to change any of your indulged behaviors, spoiled rotten modern civilization. Take some responsibility for our future.

Thom Yorke is not just a musician, he’s also a human, fortunately happens to care more then you. How can you separate his works and his value, his works is in his value, his value is in his works.

A quote from Herbie Hancock —

“Music is what I do, being a human is who I am”

  • jonas

I’ve already done my part…. but if you think your futile efforts at carbon-control will have any substantial effect on weather patterns, and in turn resolve this false crisis, all at the expense of taxpayers I might add, dormant volcanoes in a week emit more carbon than humans do in an entire lifetime, so fuck off with your apocalypse bullshit.

  • somanyignorance

    @jonas

Why do you think regulating carbon emission will end up digging our pockets. How about cutting subsidy from industries that pollute our environment, switching that money to businesses that contribute cutting pollution. But most governments are NOT doing enough. There are many ways to approach this issue. I will stress this again, like you, me and other individuals out there trying hard and consciously not to pollute our environment IS NOT ENOUGH. This has to be done with REGULATION.

It’s not only the air we breath, also the water we drink. People will beg and down their knees when disaster strike them when they wake up from their sleep, oh, but wait no, it won’t happen to them in their lifetime, not even the place they live in, so they don’t have to give a fuck about it. But if someone lives long enough and happens to be forced to live in a place affected by pollution and climate change, I’m sure they would wish other can hear their screaming voices.

Have you experienced “Sleep Paralysis”, when you want to shout, you can’t, like you are invisible, no one’s paying attention to you?

  • Phil

It’s no wonder why Thom has to be talking about protecting the environment so often, his own fan base includes so many imbeciles.

  • Brian

let us all just sit back and do nothing.
    there’s a grand idea. NOT!
it is a corporate world but believe me, If enough people boycott a corp and get a bill passed in congress to force them to go green they either change or collapse. It’s about making the right decisions one soul at a time and unfortunately it may be too late concerning saving the planet because the shock value it might take will leave millions dead and wipe out hundreds of species. people just don’t care anymore about the future, they care about money and they care about right now. what will our kid’s kids have to deal with that we should have cleaned up ourselves? Warning signs are there and taking action or at least being on the same side of taking care of our one and only habitat will make you a better individual and human on this planet. I don’t think raising taxes will solve the problem but budget cuts will. The US spends money like it grows on trees and it all goes to WASTE. Bill Gates has actually got the right idea…surprisingly. cheers to the BEST news of this year…READ THIS…

These people talking about how annoying it is that thom keeps talking of our environment dont understand that they are the reason he needs to. They dont understand that they litter our air, poisining our breath. Maybe if you stepped up and took action against global warming we could all relax just a little and not be utterly purplexed at the stupidity and ignorance of people that do not understand the reaction this earth has on their actions. You are a guest to this planet.

What an embarrassing bunch of comments. Yes, let’s all complain when someone tries to do something positive for the world.

  • somanyignorance

I have problems when people make comments separating performing art artists from real life issues, such as:

    1) Go back to your studio, leave the politics alone
    2) Improving environmental issues is pretentious, futile.

For this kind of mentality is perfect portrayal of weak and powerless minded.

“Our intention is our soul”, even the outcome of purest gracious intention can go wrong sometimes, but with good/pure intentions, we become humble and open to learn our mistakes, that brings us to back on the right direction. THIS IS the biggest difference between doing something about and nothing.

I’m impressed, I have to say. Really rarely do I encounter a weblog that’s each educative and entertaining, and let me inform you, you’ve hit the nail on the head. Your thought is outstanding; the difficulty is something that not sufficient people are talking intelligently about. I am very happy that I stumbled across this in my search for one thing referring to this.
