Thom Yorke DJs at Los Angeles Club

Radiohead are neither recording or rehearsing in England, as Thom Yorke spent last last night DJing at the Low End Theory in Los Angeles.

The Low End Theory is a Los Angeles dubstep club, where Flying Lotus started out. Gaslamp Killer, Flying Lotus and Nigel Godrich were also at the venue. Thom did a straight up DJ set like he did at the Roosevelt Hotel in ’09. Setlist included Burial, Modeselektor, Kraftwerk, Squarepusher (Red Hot car), Madvillain (America’s Most Blunted), Major Lazer and a bunch of other stuff, said At Ease reader Arturo. He played around an hour and 20 min and left the stage. The crowd went crazy of course.

Also, Flying Lotus just tweeted and he still can’t believe it.

Update: and 8 hours later…

It’s not entirely inconceivable that Thom left England for a weekend, and will be back next week to rehearse, or that Radiohead is back in LA rehearsing. This magical device… what is it? An “aeroplane”? I think that may have something to do with his ability to go from point A to point B.

    Thom’s midlife crisis

  • Eme

Yeah Thom could fly out and get to LA in a few hours, doesn’t mean he wasn’t recording and rehearsing when Jonny’s interview took place.

AND of course the Jonny interview might have been before we’re led to believe it was from.

It’s also conceivable that the rest of the band are rehearsing without him, or just having a few days off while they wait for him to return.

SXSW starts today in Austin, thankfully I am in San Antonio Tx, 70 miles south, there are always rumors that Thom is going to show up, we will see….

  • Cam

I was lucky enough to attend.
Probably one of the best nights of my life–it was surreal.

  • Beefcake

Wish somebody would remember his play list.

  • inkybrown

Thom DJ’ed last Wednesday as well. Highly unlikely he went back to England and returned to LA again… he hates flying because of the carbon footprint!
So, wednesday nights in LA, Thom DJ’ing is becoming a regular thing. Lucky SOBs.

cam… Really? He djed… He didnt perform anything. It wasnt atoms or radiohead. Im completely tired of there side stuff. I love em but they need to break up already. They need to focus. Im tired of los angeles kids liking thom and getting boners just cause of in rainbows. His dj sets are dope but how could u possibly get excited. Dubstep sucks too. Thom needs to focus on atoms, phil on his band, jon on his soundtrax and colin and ed can retire.

  • kyostea

    dubstep thinks you suck too.

i hate when people say stuff like, ‘he played a solo gig!’ no, he didn’t…he played records. it would’ve been nice, but i just don’t get the whole thing of going to club and standing there mesmerized at the DJ…just dance!

We can’t help it if some of the most important events in music come to sunny Los Angeles. And we’ve been fans much longer than in rainbows, get over your own love for radioface. We share with the Radiohead community just as the fans in Japan Brazil UK France or Israel would.

  • AyeLewisTheHairless

If the rest of Radiohead aren’t in LA with Thom, then I hope Thom fucking dies

  • Dog

Thom DJ’d during his college days at Exeter, this is something he’s loved doing a long time – everyone not on the West Coast of the US wishes he’d spread the love around a little but otherwise, so what? It’s a thrill for the lucky few and it keeps him connected to today’s music, where’s the harm? Fans who want to harness where he directs his energy are free to move on – Thom has never been one to be reined in and that’s part of his charm.

  • Kurticus

Why are people being so damned bitter towards Thom doing what he loves to do. You act as if he has a sort of debt to pay to the Radiohead fans. If he stopped writing music all together and started DJing, it is none of your business. Let him live his life. Not saying I want him to quit, just saying he is a human being.

  • Kurticus

    Dog nailed it.

all right, brtt rdmkr, you seem like a real downer.
Sorry, I’m appreciative of the type of musc Thom was playin, plus he is a fantastic DJ. I hope my pleasure doesn’t bring you down…

  • Honky_D

I live in LA and am seriously thinking I better head on down to this club next week!

  • thisguy

The entire band is in Los Angeles for the next month. They rented out a house in Echo Park to complete recording of… something.

    @ Honky
Absolutely come to Low End next week. EVERY week is magical, although this past Wednesday was obviously something ridiculously special.

  • thisguy

    @beefcake
This dude’s got a pretty good chunk of the set

Let’s be honest if TKOL was half as good as In Rainbows knowone would be saying anything about Thom’s side stuff.

The problem is the side stuff is becoming apart of Radiohead for the worse. (I’m look at the first 4 tracks from TKOL).

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.
