Radiohead’s Record Store Day release for UK, Europe and Japan only

We first reported on Radiohead’s Record Store Day release a couple weeks back, but now there’s an official confirmation from the band.

Radiohead will release their two track EP on 12″ vinyl this Saturday, as reported earlier. The Butcher/Supercollider will be available only in Europe and Japan. For a while reports said it would be a UK only release, but as we stated it was likely that a more territories would have the 12″. One bummer though, the band confirmed that apart from the fact that it’s already extremely limited, most countries will miss out, including USA and Canada.

Radiohead news on this day..

  • DUMPTRUCK

    well then.

  • d

just please, please, please let there be mp3s/wavs that are not just vinyl rips…

  • pntrs

i do not complain – i just dont understand why – makes not too much sense restricting beautiful material to only some people in the world [ 1 world even if it doesn t look like ] . again , just not understanding why some extremely smart people and music lovers like RD would do this .

    on the positive side i think it has to be a re-release date in the future or [ . . . . . . . can t tell the second positive thought ] .

  • mi6uel

i love your attention to details d

  • brttrdmkr

we’ll all be able to download it the day of.
and we’ll be able to purchase it on the internet.
    come on people.

…SCARCITY is the fundamental economic problem of having seemingly unlimited human needs and wants, in a world of limited resources. It states that society has insufficient productive resources to fulfill all human wants and needs. Alternatively, scarcity implies that not all of society’s goals can be pursued at the same time; trade-offs are made of one good against others…Goods (and services) that are scarce are called economic goods (or simply goods if their scarcity is presumed). Other goods are called free goods if they are desired but in such abundance that they are not scarce, such as air and seawater. Too much of something freely available can informally be referred to as a bad, but then its absence can be classified as a good, thus, a mown lawn, clean air, etc…

…got to give it to Radiohead, they really know how to keep interest alive, and keep their humble servant fans wanting more…

  • lifeistao

Sigh……. I just don’t get it. 2 tracks of song = how much fossil oil + emission? Why not just make them available to most of the fans with mp3s/wavs?

Sorry, I don’t give it to Rh for this.

  • Nick

Even if the band doesn’t release the songs in digital format, this single will more than likely be available on torrent sites by the end of the day. Someone with a USB turntable will purchase it, rip it into FLAC, and share with the rest of us.

  • Eme

They’re on the Newspaper edition, chill your beans peeps.

  • theotherdayiwaspntrs

i have the usb turntable .where do i get the vinyl from ?

  • KimsintheUS

Gee, thanks alot RH. : (

  • kidj

guess i’ll have to buy it off ebay for 100s of dollars. oh wait… i don’t have that kind of money to throw around. BUT this is radiohead we’re talking about. hmmm… now my brain hurts.

  • Josh

    That’s cool, Radiohead.

I mean, now you don’t get my money, and I still get your music, so…

  • Mutt

Agreed… bummed I can’t get a copy, but there will be a FLAC sooner than later… all I care about is more new music! Still waiting on a good Ego/Mirror copy… ;)

  • girls don’t like 12″

It will be in our hands no matter what!
In Rainbows never mentioned the disc 2 but we got it.
    Get it?

  • Nick

I’m pretty sure that the bonus disc for In Rainbows was specifically mentioned with the discbox.

  • George

ive got a copy reserved for me :)

  • Skatt

shame it’s limited =( not nice of them!!!

  • Foetus C

The fact that only the Poms and the Japanese are getting these two songs means that Radiohead must think they are crap. I’m not too fussed that there will be no record day release in Eudunda.

  • lifeistao

I will trade my vinyl of Newspaper Album with “Pablo Honey” (the only full record I don’t have) at my local record store. :D

  • lifeistao

    Meant to say:

I have no use of vinyl record, so I will trade my vinyl from Newspaper Album with “Pablo Honey” (the only full record I don’t have) at my local record store. :D

I want a hard copy. I recently had my computer crash and lost all my itunes-purchased stuff, which luckily wasn’t much, but I did lose “Harry Patch”, which I bought. I realize some could say, “Hey, you should have made a hard copy.” Well, there are 2 issues with that. First, why not just release the thing on hard copy so I can buy it instead of making one myself. Second, copied discs are easy to misplace and lose because they all look the same, barring some careful labeling, and they don’t have special packaging. So, hard copy is the fair way to go.

I’d like these songs on CD, perhaps even on a compilation if I have to wait, but I don’t just want them as mp3s.

  • http://well dan

if I were Thom I’d definitely lose my mind. I think it must be hard to be and remain inspired and creative when everybody constantly asks for new songs newer songs newest songs. I mean they’re not a jukebox really..
If they choose to release 2000 vinyl records so be it. If they chose not to write another album for 10 years.. again.. so be it.
They’re not collectible items.. they are artists.
    Respect that.

  • lifeistao

    @dan,

Well put, except the vinyl part. :-)

  • Hedley

WTF, what are we supposed to do in the US of A. Is it not enough that I bought the CD and the MP3s.

I went to buy one. Stupid queues… I was only going to sell it on eBay anyway. Speaking of which, ave you seen the stupid prices people are trying to sell it for? 79quid! 150! Madness. I imagined I’d double my money at best.

Record store day is dumb. It’s all just plastic junk, sold by snobby twats for the most part. (in London really) I wish I’d never bought half the crap I have in the past. And that includes piles of 90s radiohead singles. That being said, I do rather like my pair of sparklehorse 7″s signed by mark. They remind me of a fun evening. And they remind me of the record shop I bought them from in Shaftesbury, which I’m sure is gone.

  • Matthw

By the way I have the promo VHS creep video with blobby R on the sleeve and a BBC 2001 jools special promo VHS. If anyone wants them.
