Thom Yorke DJs at LA’s Low End Theory again with Flying Lotus

Thom Yorke will be doing another DJ set at Los Angeles Low End Theory again

Flying Lotus just tweeted: “About to Dj with thom yorke at @lowendtheory808″. Thom Yorke did the same thing two months ago at the same Los Angeles Club. If you’re at Low End Theory right night, we’d love to hear all about it. So have fun an let us know.

Update: Low End Theory’s twitter account had the following updates: “Thom Yorke playing Radiohead remixes from another dimension” and “Thom Yorke sang at our club tonight. Rocked it.”

Update 2: A video of Thom’s appearance has surfaced (below) as well as some pictues; Polaroids at Gorilla vs. Bear and some more at L.A. Record.

LA Times write about the Thom Yorke and Flying Lotus set: “The two trade off song by song, like show and tell. Yorke brings tracks that sound like Radiohead songs submerged. No one knows what exactly.

“Reckoner” emerges and so does “Bloom,” from Radiohead’s most recent “King of Limbs.” Thom Yorke is dancing full lotus flower, along with a strut best described as the funky hen. Since his first solo jaunts several years ago, Yorke has completed his evolution from diffident frontman to a master of idiosyncratic groove. (…) Ahu’s “To Love” breathed easy, as did a never-released alternate Flying Lotus remix of Radiohead. Gonjasufi’s “Ancestors” cracked skulls with Yorke pantomiming every word. Lotus dropped “Radicals,” from Tyler, The Creator’s just-leaked “Goblin.”

A Jaylib track blared, some acid house thumped. Yorke unleashed his secret weapon — his celestial tendon-tearing croon. While the rapt audience swayed, he let loose a babble of scatting and singing. A seraphic vocal streaked by melancholy.

FIRST haha no but really, Thom should just do whatever the hell he wants as long as we get more Radiohead material this year or next.

Lately, Thom doesn’t seem to be so worried anymore to fly “around the world”. What about the whole carbon footprint thing?
Unless he is secretly living in LA…

  • jeremy

of course he is secretly living in LA. If you had the choice, would you really want to live in Oxford?

  • Norton

Haha, Thom clocks up yet more air miles….

  • i know, they will say is me .

man . good morning negative friends of atease . you re so close minded most of the time that i don t even understand how you like radiohead . i think ” earth wind and fire ” and ” aerosmith ” should be good enough for you for you mental level .

there are millions of possibilities on why people do things in life . most of the time they dont even need to ” tell you ” why . that someone try his/her best to be environmentally friendly , doesn t mean he/she has to stop living . you do your best . you try to tech as well . but the world keeps moving . and you have to move with the world as well .

so him traveling is of course no reason for you girls to be bitching again . japan help might be more than a reason . even a family problem might bring Thom to LA so often . I mean , do you think if that is the case he will tell you ?? . Maybe another real love . I mean , fuck man .

    mornin’ girls .

open your mind wide . not only you mouth .

  • lifeistao

He’d better be living in LA, it doesn’t make sense to fly all the way from Oxford across Atlantic Ocean, and the whole U.S. continent, hummm… how much plane fuel he burns? Or he just gave up the good fight for environment, like when he sings “don’t burn your brain with why”.

LA’s traffic is not of his concern, he’s rich enough to take helicopter from point A to B, so why not. ;-)

  • neverstayonly4days

I was just in LA for 4 days and could have stayed one extra night. Had I done so, I would have gone to Low End Theory to check it out as I’ve always wanted to do that. and had I done so, my mind would have exploded. goddamnit

  • Dig

Who gives a shit if Thom wants to fly back and forth. People fly back and forth on business trip all the time. Everyday, planes are going back and forth in the sky every single minute. The environment isn’t going to be saved just because Thom Yorke decided to stay home for a year. Please unplug your head from your ass and stop being such colossal prick about what people do with their life.

  • Jacob

actually, flying from oxford to los angeles multiple times would make thom a hypocrite, but thats not the case here. their new album was recorded in L.A. if i’m not mistaken. So i’m pretty sure he lives there now. However just because he is a musical genius doesn’t mean everything he does is justifiable, the ones that justify thom flying across the world multiple times are the ones with the closed minds.

  • open and closed

I open doors in my mind by closing them off to all of you for being so close minded by mind my open mindedness so open and close the close open mind and open the thought that your closed mind is opening or closed your open mind to openess.

Yeah…. that’s right, just follow what everyone else does, business as usual, you can’t go wrong.

Strangely, how does this work? People with more than necessary ego, usually don’t believe they can make a difference on a colossal issue, but the colossal pricks do.

Having said that, it’s very possible Thom lives in LA or close by city. I do agree it’s not fair to expect so much from him, I also agree with what he said in the interview when he showed up at the Copenhagen climate conference, that to put so much pressure on personal responsibility is less effective then changing our regulation, so very true. But when you are a public figure, you have the power and influence to set a great example, and he and the whole band did…, I just hate to see him give up the fight because of greater power out there making this fight real difficult, and the day to day people who don’t believe altering their life CAN make a difference.

  • http://www.fakeplastictunes.com/ Fake Plastic Tunes

I believe Thom is now just a glorified DJ.

  • Sean
  • Ash

I assume Thom wasn’t around the UK for the election/referendum then, unless he sped back on another private jet just in time.

  • Norton

@ all the people defending Thom’s incessant transatlantic sojourns:

    ARE YOU F*CKING KIDDING ME?!?!?

I couldn’t give a rat’s ass how much travelling Thom wants to do in his own time, or for what reasons. He could fly to LA & back to pick up a cheeseburger for all I care.

What rankles is the collision between Thom’s constant trips to the US for these frivolous reasons with the image he constantly sells regarding his “environmental credentials”.

This is someone who put a lengthy (and frankly smug) disclaimer on The Universal Sigh website about offsetting the supposedly horrendous environmental impact of handing out some free newspapers for one day to promote a record.

This is someone who put an Environmental Impact questionnaire on DAS & w.a.s.t.e central enquiring how we travel to Radiohead concerts & to work each day, making us feel guilty about driving there just because we hate taking the bus.

This is someone whose broadcasts from the Copenhagen summit and whose countless rants on DAS have the self-satisfied air of “why do I understand how badly people are screwing up the environment, and no-one else does?”

So when Thom Yorke jets back and forth to the United States more times in one year than probably anyone else on Atease does and still sees fit to tell us what we’re all doing wrong regarding the environment, it creates more than a little bit of confusion.

It’s not complicated, folks. It’s called Hypocrisy. And Thom Yorke taught me more about that than any damned politician.

We do ourselves a disservice if we hold Thom up to anything less than the very ideals he set out to us over the years in so much of his work.

This might seem over-dramatic, but at the end of the day Thom himself has stated on DAS that if the world leaders don’t get it together within the next couple of years then he thinks we’re all finished.

So Thom either needs to put up or shut up. He can’t have it both ways. Keeping up this lifestyle pretty much takes all of his impassioned statements and makes them as relevant as Sting wittering on about the rainforests and posing with natives whilst licensing his music to car ads.

I thought Thom was better than that…

its kind of interesting to see Radiohead fans criticize everything their favorite band/band members do. you guys are fans of their music right? so why does anything else they do matter… everybody in the world is a hypocrite. get over it and go cry about something else

  • Scoot

Sometimes I’m embarrassed to call myself a Radiohead fan. Some of you people get so obsessed with what these guys are doing that I think you loose touch with your own lives. It’s ok to check the posts and see what’s going on with the band, but once you start berating them (as if you know them personally) for what you THINK they are up to in the personal lives, you come off as pathetic losers. Turn off your computer and cell phones and go enjoy YOUR life.

  • lifeistao

@ i know, they will say is me .May 5, 2011 at 10:24 pm

*** you cannot know everything and you shouldn t judge that much ***

Fair enough, so please do everyone a favor, “don’t judge” when anyone speaks out for environmental issue is a “female”, “don’t judge” when a female speaks, is “bitching” (referring to your earlier post), I’m sure you know the terminology for that kind of discrimination.

    @ ziggy,

*** you guys are fans of their music right? so why does anything else they do matter…***

Uhhh…. I don’t know, Rh/Thom are not just about music, it’s also about what they write in their music. If we all believe they are artistic musician, they provoke issues in songs that makes people think. Some fans are just happy with their music, some are attached to their music and passion, and Rh/Thom do not shy away from expressing societal issues, this makes me love them more. So yes, I care about what they do, at lease live by their conviction, to certain extend realistically. If they come out support something or do something obviously against what they have been preaching, I remain in benefit of doubt, but I would def. like to know why they support or do such. And the rest of gossip, like who they are dating/sleeping with, how they get along with each other, really non of my business, I can care less.

*** everybody in the world is a hypocrite ***

I fully agree…. the only difference is some try harder not to be one, some just don’t care. I still go with the one tries harder, like Rh.

  • RADIOHEAD + THEIR CRETINOUS PUPPETS

Planes fly whatever the fuck Thom does.

It is assholes like all you, with your turgid, banal ‘look for the things to complain about’ thinking, that make me loathe to divulge to people that I worship the music Radiohead make.

And the irony is that Thom wins – you are all talking in this way, about eco-friendly behaviour, about being more considerate of environmental impact, so fuck off you cretinous puppets.

  • Mike

so, if Thom lives in LA, then that means he flew to the UK just to hand out some newspapers? couldn’t he hand them out somewhere in America? to decrease his environmental footprint, I mean. i’m still confused.

  • Matt

    @ Mike

Exactly what I was thinking about the Universal Sigh newspaper handouts.

I have to admit, seeing Thom bustin’ rhymes in a club in LA really doesnt sit well with my perception of him as a lateral thinking environmentalist. The word Hypocrite is not too strong here I think.

  • Andrew

All of you “fans” need to take your heads out of your asses! Calling Thom a hypocrite because he MAY have flown to california just shows how much of a hypocrite all of YOU are! I bet any amount of money that all of you smug bastards would not give two flying fucks about thoms views on carbon footprint and flying if he were flying with his BAND to come perform in your fucking town!…guess what guys? If Thom stopped flying they would have to tour by bus(which in this day in age just doesn’t cut it anymore) if they toured by bus that would likely mean a shorter going to alot less locations which means alot of you would miss out on seeing them live…how many of you would give a shit about carbon footprint then? Would you still call him a hypocrite…he’s been contributing to the cause and doing everything he can but let’s face it guys the fact is fairly obvious…Thom and his band are in the music business! Flying is a necessary evil in order for him to do what he’s GOT to do and what he WANTS to do.

  • Andrew

It’s gonna be ok for you guys though because when you grow up you will learn to not feel such a sense if entightlement :-D

I will be the first one to ask Radiohead NOT to tour, who else is with me?

  • lifeistao

Why do people have to call people names to get their point crossed?

  • Norton

    @ Andrew:

    You fucking idiot.

The point which you’ve so clearly missed here is that nobody would give a rat’s ass about the environmental impact of anything Thom or Radiohead did if Thom didn’t constantly make so much of an issue out of it in the first place. Environmental concerns are a huge part in much of his writing.

If you don’t understand the basic hypocrisy between this and the reality of Thom jetting off to LA all the time, and how this is currently setting off our bullshit detectors (not to mention rendering so much of his work meaningless) then you really just don’t get it, do you?

Go and listen to something else, like Coldplay. Then you don’t have to think about ANYTHING. :)

  • Ronald McDowell

    listen to norton, guys.

he’s a SERIOUS FAN BEING SERIOUS

  • Andrew

Lol I love the standard “listen to coldplay” line never fails to make me smile :-> all coldplay is is radiohead lite for the teeny bopper MTV Jersey Shore generation lol…and apparently you missed one of MY points…noone even KNOWS FOR SURE IF HE FLEW THERE! Maybe he’s living there with drew Barrymore lmao…and I STILL stand by what I first said if he were flying for a tour or to record new music either you guys would care as much OR at all….it’s clear that it’s just the same old shit you find in most fan bases these days…everyone has to whine and bitch and moan about something…I find it amusing how every fanbase is pretty much the same…the Internet breeds negativity and brings out all the crybabies! Let the pissing contest continue! :-P

  • Andrew

    Wouldn’t*

  • Andrew

The real heart of this issue is the same as the first time he went to Low End Theory…most people don’t want him doing anything else but Radiohead and when he does they can’t there panties in a twist ;->

  • Andrew

Sorry if I hurt Anyones feelings with what I have said…I never meant to cause ya trouble I never meant to do ya wrong :-D lmao

  • Andrew

Also I’ve heard interviews where he has talked about flying and how right now there is no real way to get around it because it is needed by millions of people…and who knows? Maybe he figured out a way to fly a plane using peanut oil! Lmao maybe he has special batwings he uses to fly across the country lol

  • Andrew

And what if one of your grandmothers was on there death bed and you had to fly to go see her? Would you say “sorry grandma your gonna have to croak all by your lonesome self cuz I don’t want to contribute to the carbon footprint!” Lmao NO!

  • Lifeistao

Radiohead is NOT bigger than life, although i love them soooooo sooooo very much…… They are my spirit, my inspiration, my soul, my love……

But still not big enough in comparing with the survival of all living kinds on earth in the future…….

If you think this is another environmental rhetoric, well, you probably haven’t read enough, or you’re just afraid to delve into it……

  • Matt

    I guess there are two issues here creating a lot of angst amongst RH fans;

    1) Has Thom gone against his ‘image’ which is shown through not only his lyrics but also his W.A.S.T.E comments and uploaded links as a member of RH?
    2) There can be no denying Thom is really becoming more and more separated from ‘Radiohead’ to an independent artist with his increasing public appearances and especially his performances in Los Angeles.

  • lifeistao

*** And what if one of your grandmothers was on there death bed and you had to fly to go see her? Would you say “sorry grandma your gonna have to croak all by your lonesome self cuz I don’t want to contribute to the carbon footprint!” Lmao NO! ***

We have taken everything, including our “modern convenience” for granted. People didn’t have those luxurious convenience before, they dealt with it as being part of life. If I were the grandma, and knowing this grandkid does things on what he/she believes and persist, I can tell you, I respect what they believe, and I know they LOVE me just as much because I have known them, I have confidence in them with their decision. If you don’t, then, you were never that close to those kids enough to feel sorry and pity about it. Sometimes you just have to trust your love ones, and give them the heathy distance to pursue their spirit and belief.

Anyway, that was an extreme case you’re making there. Of course, we should fly to our love ones in that case. It’s different than promoting your career when you already have millions of dollars in your bank account, this is not meant for criticizing Thom, cause I’m really not that interested in his personal life.

But think twice about how we conduct business today, all the stupid conferences, meetings and travels. I’ve been to numerous meetings, just a bunch of waste of time, self inflated self important meetings that ended with no results, just lots of flying mileages, coffee, donuts and pizzas. :D

    Yeah… call me a colossal prick, I can’t help it, we’re all different…. ;-)

  • lifeistao

    @ Norton,

    =)

  • Done.

    Guys.

    SHUT. THE. FUCK. UP.

He can do whatever he wants, he sounds incredible in this dj’ing set, let him go for it.

He’s still with Radiohead, and they will continue to make music, but if you want them to STAY together let the band breathe!

The whole reason the band has been together is so long is a mixture of good friendships and giving each other SPACE.

Let him explore with different mediums of music. You never know he might create something entirely different for another Radiohead album. He’s been a musician. Let him play with his art.

He is of course, the best at what he does.

  • realyRHFan

I cant understand that radiohead fans speak so much shit! Are you really a fan? I don’t think so. I dont like techno, but when Thom York visit Berlin and will make a DJ-Set, I will like it and want to go there. What he makes is great! And what Radiohead makes is beautiful. I love all of them, include TKOL. So please be quit and go to an other band who ever play the same sound.

  • Not Friendly

^ Cliche internets arguments, this way.

on a side-note (far be it for me to judge, but hey, fuck it), ateaseweb’s community (and the wider RH fan community in general) have been a total shit-hole since after the HTTT days, lol.

Now should you wish to repent, get on your knees younglings, and pay your dues :D

I feel like everyone who is pissed at Thom for DJing in clubs are the ones who are disappointed with The King of Limbs. If this was going on during the In Rainbows release, there would be no bitching about him being in LA. I also can’t believe that people are bitching about him flying back in forth, when for all we know, he could be staying in LA. It would make a ton of sense. They recorded The King of Limbs in L.A. and now Thom and maybe the rest of them are hanging out in LA. Maybe we should look at the positive side of this. If all of them are still in LA, maybe they are still recording in LA.
