Stream: Radiohead remixed by Jacques Greene & Caribou

The first Radiohead twelve inch with remixes of Little By Little (by Caribou) and Lotus Flower (Jacques Greene) will be officially released Monday, July 4. But you can hear them today.

The twelve inch is available in some territories (i.e. the Netherlands), on Monday in the UK and rest of Europe, and in North America on Tuesday. Radiohead made a stream available.

The band writes: “The first in a series of remixes on 12″ vinyl will be released on Monday 4th July (or Tuesday in the US + Canada).

The series kicks off with Caribou remixing Little by Little, and a remix of Lotus Flower by Jacques Greene, both of which we were really excited about.

Hopefully you will find the vinyl in your local independent record shop on Monday, but if not, you can buy by mailorder here. If you don’t have a record player, digital versions will be available here, here, here and here. Or you can just listen to them here:

More 12″ remixes will be released every couple of weeks over the summer until we run out of remixes…or summer. On the next one we’ve got Nathan Fake (Morning Mr Mapgie) and remixes of Bloom by Mark Pritchard.”

These are awesome. Can’t wait to waste all my money on these summer remixes. Radiohead has a way with my wallet and I just curl up and take it.

i wasn t even thinking on buying the rmxs , but this morning with the best speakers i found myself dancing and smiling to the sound . so yes , i changed my mind , i ll get them . i just wish [ as i wish with the Spitting Feathers and the eraser rmxs ] they would be in vinyl but as a just 1 lp / ep edition . that s the only thing i would change . so lately when it comes to enjoy and dance [ not only guitars let s be open a bit more than that ] i am all up for it . i actually think that s what the rd are up these days as well . let s be happy and keep enjoying life that doesn t stop when you turn 21 . don t stop . dance .

  • dont you open that trap door

Does anyone know what time from the basement is on I thought it would be on bbc but I cant find it on any of the listings???

  • dicklaurent

Excellent stuff. TKOL is more and more developing into my favourite Radiohead- era.

  • Josh

Very good stuff. Also, echoing what ‘dont you open that trap door’ said. What time is this ‘TKOL from the Basement’ on at? Details are sparse…

  • Costa Rica

Yeah from the basement info pleeasee!

  • music junkies

what a waste of resources, there, we make 1,2 or 3 songs, let’s make some vinyls and sell to suckers! :D

  • Common Sense

I agree, we NEED from the basement details At Ease!

  • tkuen

    something about a basement?

  • Everyone Deserves Music

FREE THE ROBOTS could easily smash these 2 tracks with beautiful ease and groove.

  • dont you open that trap door

Radiohead are big into re using old stuff to make new stuff to save carbon emmisions or something like that anyway. Id just like to make the point that they release a lot of material + extras that needs to be shipped world wide plus produced. Is it just me or is this dumb? Maybe im dumb?
Like these remixes could be packaged as 1 whole product and would cost less and create less hassle and reduce fuel used in deliverly of 4 batches of these summer releases.
What would really make sense to me anyway would be to charge for digital download on waste would really cut to the chase. or pay what ya like if ya paid for Limbs already.

Oh but a vinyl sounds better you say? So what! Is it really that much of a difference at the end of the day a digital recording sent to your computer and into your ears regardless of format… Oh but I like the crackles you say? Well so what! I suggest you listen to a bowl of rice crispys while listening to your digital recording if thats the case.:)

Im a huge fan and also love the art work that comes along with it but do we really need the physical thing anymore?
Im only making a point and parts could be right/wrong but the band are releasing stuff for fun lately and I dont see the point. Am I alone on this? Im probably just being grumpy and getting old but is it a contradiction saying oh save the planet then releasing 8 vinyl’s in 1 year (im counting TKOL as 2.) along with Universal sigh and the main paper. I know its made from recycled this and that but still needs to be shipped world wide. Are we being duped?

Just a quick point Im actually not 100% decided on whats right or wrong myself.

  • Josh

Well, I think they’re trying to get people back into buying records and going to record shops, by producing a whole lot of stuff. Kind of the opposite of In Rainbows. But I see your point, I’m undecided as well, but I just love all the songs and artwork so much I don’t really care!

  • Pat

You privileged british mofos need to let loose on some basement details before i flip out and fly over there

  • Amnesiac What?

These are so over redundant with pitter patter beats. Its just
    not my style.
One thing I am grateful for is the fact that they never produce the same thing twice…. Thank goodness.

    @ lifeistoa
More snap crackle pop in music from Radiohead I don’t want to listen to.

From ‘From the basement’ facebook page:

Radiohead “The King of Limbs” schedules :
No specific date confirmed yet on BBC (July 10 remains a possibility).
    USA : http://bit.ly/lXSlFX
    Spain : http://bit.ly/j3gtM4
    Canada : http://bit.ly/jZayrn

Hopefully I only have to wait 8 more days :D

  • Bill

    They’re on vinyl because:

    a) Vinyl sounds better

    b) Notably, 12″ and 45″ vinyl singles sound much better than 12″ albums due to compression

    c) They’re also much easier to mix with for DJs than albums.

    d) Radiohead are doing their bit to support ailing record shops. Not to be sniffed at. My local sold all of its 50+ copies of Seperator/The Butcher on RSD at £8 a go…

    e) They look a lot nicer than CDs/mp3 (obviously)

  • lifeistao

    @ Amnesiac What?

The bowl of rice crispys sound was recommended by “dont you open that trap door”, not me. I commented on his/her humor, that’s all.

    :D

  • s.u.r.t.n.a.p

@all : democracy is beautiful but judging hurts . did you even listen to the meaning of feral lyrics ? hell you havent even gotten into tkol yet .

obviously tkol is not for everyone , even if you stay blah blah blahing for years , tkol and rmxs and even an extra drummer with an incredible career and such a fucking beat on him joining the band live , a fucking live masterpiece . this rd move is for people who go further . people who are not afraid to travel further . not right or wrong , but maybe just not for you . try to eat that and move aside of the road , no one is forcing you to stay .

  • Nowso

To all those thinking that the vinyl’s are wasteful, the sleeve is clearly made from recycled cardboard, there is no inner jacket, it has clearly caused less resource-wasting than the vast majority, if not all of the Big-4 phsical releases

  • Everyone Deserves Music

I am also a big fan of Rh, I don’t have to like every single sound they make, but I still stay true, loyal, and love them as always.

  • Amnesiac What?

    @ lifeistoa
No harm your way. Just an opinion.

I am so craving new Radiohead material.
It’s only been 3 months and missing the new stuff.
    I’m disappointed in this album.
Doesn’t need to be my style just no more over the top drumbeats. Thom’s voice and the crescendo made Radiohead.
Would like to hear more of that in different forms.

  • Amnesiac What?

BBC won’t be playing TKOL until July 23 in USA.
    If anyone needed that information.

  • Josh

@ Amnesiac What?: Thanks, but where did you get that info? I’d like to find out when it plays in the Uk as well.

  • Ed

To me, CDs are dead. They are no different to a lossless download, but with additional waste of materials, shipping cost, yada yada.

It’s lossless downloads and vinyl for me. If these hit either format I’m buying.

  • Ed

Erm, I mean, if they hit lossless download, OR I can find somewhere to grab a vinyl (they sure go fast).. I’m eagle-eyeing that second release. H313 <3

  • Dont you open that trap door

:) I was just kidding. but it is something that has crossed my mind hard to give a definitive answer on it because there is good and bad with everything. Ill always download all new material but Im past the physical copy personally, the only reason id want to look at it is to see the artwork but after that its put in a corner and becomes something to show the grand kids and will only ever get played on laptop or ipod which seems like a waste. But as pointed out above it helps small business which is a good point. And also its their band they can do what they like but it really does play on my mind is all :)

looking forward to solid news on The basement

  • Amnesiac What?

    @Ed

I found it on a youtube member.

Not sure what the deal is.

Me likey the remixes. TKOL is growing on me each time I listen to it. It’s easy on the ears. Good for summer road trips. I’m even fully enjoying Morning Mr. Magpie, which I had previously let the slew of bad reviews effect my listening appreciation…it’s going to be non-stop radiohead this year, with all these new remixes and I am loving it…

  • chris

these remixes are sensational, right up there with four tet’s remix of skttrbrain and atoms for peace

oh and here’s my take on “the new radiohead” that we’ve all been discussing, more or less, any thoughts are welcome

  • quasimoto

  • surtnap or pantrus one or the other

@chris : i loved it – one smart human being alive – god bless you

    ! ! ! !

  • juniper

@chris: wonderfully written. my sentiments exactly. although i’m probably biased, because i loved tkol on first listen =D

    “now please, tour!”

  • Carson

@ Chris – Nice piece of writing. I agree that TKOL is much more profound than initially reviewed. In fact, it’s really too bad that the initial reviews were so short sighted about this. You’d think people would have figured out by now that you don’t make quick judgments about RH albums (Kid A anyone?) and this is no exception. Like Phil said, it’s a “grower” and the more you listen to it, the more it opens up. As I have said before, each album is like a different piece of fruit – oranges, apples, bananas, etc. You might prefer apples to oranges, but you can’t really argue that oranges are “better.” Some days I am in the mood for Kid A. Other days, Ok Computer. In Rainbows always gets a lot of play time. TKOL is getting more play time this summer, and i love each of them, even though they sound like they were made by different bands. That said, I would argue against TKOL being “not accessible.” I find it one of their most accessible albums, really. There’s a lightness to it that’s far far different, then say, the heaviness that pervades Kid A through Hail to the Thief. It’s been a joy to listen to on long, summer drives. It’s uplifting, really … has anyone noticed that? Perhaps that’s part of the misunderstanding… people aren’t used to hearing this energetic, breezy, uplifting (well, save Codex, which is still beautiful…) music from RH. Anyhow, regardless, i like their remixes and new direction, and hope the critics and haters come to their senses about TKOL. It has a lot to offer is you stop trying to dissect or criticize or compare it, and just let it open its gift to you…

  • me or the one b4

@carson [ It has a lot to offer if you stop trying to dissect or criticize or compare it, and just let it open its gift to you… ] , , , wow , this doesn t look like atease anymore . am i here or somewhere else ?

finally 2 or 3 comments that makes more sense to my mind . smart real views of the situation . fuck . this is good . who is going to spoil it ?

These aren’t bad, but I’m just not sure what they add, they certainly don’t improve.

  • Separator

I keep checking the BBC TV Guide listings everyday as they are about 5 days ahead. So far up to the 10th July and still no sign of Basement on any of the BBC channels….

just google BBC tv guide and click through the days at the top…

  • bingo bano

@Separator someone was saying around the 20th possibly the 23rd could be wrong but dont stress

  • poisoned_dwarf

@Carson: Agreed. I knew this was going to happen. This album was going to take time to sink in for a lot of people (especially those who hopped on the Radiohead bandwagon after In Rainbows, easily they’re most accessible album since The Bends. I suspect the majority of the TKOL haters were introduced to RH after that album). TKOL is a grower, like HTTT, Amnesiac, etc. Remember how many people dismissed those two albums at first?

  • Sarah Jane

    @s.u.r.t.n.a.p Amen

@Carson, too bad the masses (on these blogs) don’t agree with you….I do whole-heartedly.

The earliest broadcoast of TKOL from basement will be on 9th july on HispanicBBC(I think?) Anywa,y, The Remixes are really great, though I would prefer if they were published on one cd./vinyl, all at once ’cause it’s summer, time of hedonistic pleasures, not collecting cool looking vinyls, just my two dollars $ cents :)

    Hey Thom,

Please don’t make anymore albums with more than one drummer. Please make sure that when you record with a drum machine Phil can still drum it out live in person.
    Thank you.
If you can make more than 10 songs next album. You don’t have to make a production of it, flying around the world, doing tours that will just burn you out and not make any more albums for another 4 years.
    Thank you.
All the repetitious beats are for the remakes. I never buy them anyhow.
    Thank you.
I don’t even listen to them on Youtube.

I’m a huge Truex fan, and I would actually like to see him at MWR. I know DEI, gave him his big break, but DEI is no more, and EGR is sliding downhill fast. They are just not competitive. By going to MWR, he will have an owner that cares and is passionate about racing, not just operaration a museum, manufacturer support, and a team that is on the rise. So Martin, get out of EGR ASAP!! It will be good for you.
