Radiohead From The Basement: USA to air this saturday, UK broadcast delayed

As you probably know, Radiohead’s live recording of The King Of Limbs aired earlier this month on Canal+ in Spain. The show will air in the USA this saturday.

The King of Limbs – From The Basement programme is going to be aired in the USA this Saturday 23rd July at 9pm on Palladia, followed by a second showing on MTV2 the following Saturday.

There’s still no UK broadcast scheduled. The band explains: “Apologies for the delay getting From The Basement shown in the UK: the original broadcaster decided not to show it, but we are working on it getting it shown on another channel.”

Radiohead news on this day..

  • Amnesiac What?

This show will be appreciated by all who have no way to navigate through the internet.
I for one haven’t been able to watch the one from the Spain broadcast. Just can’t get my heart into it. I tried but to no avail.
This album has totally alluded me.
    Sorry for my opinion.
Can’t wait for the next album. It will be awesome.
When Radiohead goes down they quickly come back up.

  • Aaron

Does anyone know why removed it from Youtube?

  • Aaron

    ^why they

  • locke

the BBC is a corporate entity no different then the MURDOCHIAN press. therefore, they want to put a stranglehold on the broadcast and pump up advertisement revenue. probably why radiohead wrote apologies to the UK fans and are searching for a new channel to air it on. or not. who knows. BBC definitely was responsible for the youtube takedown of the broadcast. they flexed their copyright muscle which is funny and ironic considering the band obviously don’t give a flying you know what. they have always been willing to share on the internet. in fact they have used the internet in more profitable and creative ways than any major record company, news outlet or media mogul have ever done.

  • locke

and to Amnesiac What, give it a chance. I got to watch the broadcast on the youtube before it was taken down and believe me; the new material is absolutely amazing live. i love the studio versions but this stuff just soars when played live; two drummers, three guitars, a mean bass, glockenspiels, xylophones, a six or seven piece horn section and god knows what else. give it a chance.

  • Muldfeld

Too bad Canadian music TV sucks now more than ever, controlled by monopolistic corporations that aim to dumb down the Canadian mind so we’ll only care about the monarchy and hockey and the most shallow values and comedy and music.

In short, “From the Basement” has never been shown in Canada.

  • serge

    Begging!!!

  • ClemDeLaClem

It airs again at midnight on Palladia and again at 4pm on Sunday on Palladia. all times EST.

  • nodata

    @locke

** i love the studio versions but this stuff just soars when played live **

    they are both beautiful.

studio is more polished, orchestrated, well thought-out, live is imperfect, real human, rugged, spontaneous.

    @Amnesiac What?

If the album actually “alludes” to you, I am very impressed indeed.

  • Amnesiac What?

I am now going to watch it all the way through. locke helped me to see I need to give it a chance. Seriously.

    Rick Smits you’re my hero.
I remember when you and I went to Paola Lake in Kansas and you caught that 8 1/2 pound bass on that 2lb. treble hook. Awesome. That moment will stick with me for a life time.

Hey Guys, ‘ The King of Limbs from the basement’ may be down on Youtube, but Dailymotion.com has still got the whole thing in HD! here’s the link

yup! already set the clock for tomorrow 9pm, will glue to TV for TKoL live, so excited! it’ll be different than watching online.

  • everyone deserves music

funny that BBC just can’t haunt every site down, give it up BBC.

  • jigsaw puzzle

    @ Amnesiac What?

your friend sounds like my kind of hero too, did he share his trick with you yet?

  • locke

Rick Smits must be awesome. I’ve been up in Alaska all summer watching people pull forty pound salmon out of rivers snag fishing them. pretty unbelievable. I stink at fishing myself. i’d probably do better to stand in the middle of the creek like a bear and wait for one to jump into my arms.

  • jigsaw puzzle

    @ locke

With your great sense of humor, you will charm/trap fish, bear or some birds into your arms very easily, without them even knowingly do so. Other words, their brains are so underdeveloped, they aren’t even aware of a spell put on them, damn it, it’s their own damn fault, they should be severely punished being born with pea brains. :D

  • jigsaw puzzle

    oops, not “bears”.

    :D

  • ithinkican

    It’s on @ 9pm 7/23 on Palladia

  • davinci

@Amnesiac What? XD yeah, we know you don´t like TKOL, calm down, you don`t have you say it every day. “yeah that album sucks” ok now forget it ;)

  • davinci

    to* say it. XS

  • Amnesiac What?

    @ davinci

to* type it. I never said anything :)
You appear to be the one to calm down. Your controlling nature of someone you do not know is strange.
Just type what you want and I will do the same.:)

Locke – “the BBC is a corporate entity no different then the MURDOCHIAN press”

Um. what? BBC worldwide is the commercial arm of the BBC. So yes, of course they want to make a profit on the programme that they produced, but part of that profit will go back into producing BBC content that couldn’t be made under strictly commercial circumstances. Also, the BBC is not run at the behest of a crazed right-wing ideologue and isn’t tapping anyone’s phone. Don’t talk such tripe.

  • everyone deserves music

    *** About the BBC –

BBC World Service broadcasts to the world on radio, on TV and online, providing news and information in 32 languages. It is funded by a government grant, not from the licence fee. ***

  • everyone deserves music

*** The BBC also has a commercial arm, BBC Worldwide. Its profits are returned to the BBC for investment in new programming and services. ***

I guess I’m confused by the terms between “BBC Worldwide” & “BBC World Service”??

  • Locke

i might have overreacted with the whole murdochian press thing. current events as of late (since i can remember really) have turned me into a paranoid fool. i actually respect bbc news and i guess that goes for the corporate arm as well. however, my anger towards BBC worldwide has to do with refusing to unleash this beast that is TKOL from the basement to the masses via youtube, which the band has used to their advantage quite well i might add.

they could probably make more money releasing it via youtube and charging for advertisement space since it is sure to get over a million hits within a couple months. but of course, copyright law and the suits who wield it have no such foresight. and this is coming from a law student. idjiuts all of them. better than that crazed group of right wingers from australia though…

  • Daniau

fair enough man. I must be paranoid as well. I always feel like I have to jump to the beeb’s defense these days as it seems to be under attack from all sides, and I still maintain that despite its faults – it does way more good than bad. I might’ve unfairly assumed you were one of those “BBC left-wing brainwashing” types that always seem to crop up on you tube. What are they actually talking about when they say that? teletubbies?

and to the above poster, yeah BBC worldwide and the world service are two different things. Although I think I’m right in saying that the Coalition are now stupidly withdrawing the grant that funds world service, which is such a vital source of relatively unbiased news for millions of people subject to censorship and oppression. So now the BBC have to fund it from the license fee, which is also being squeezed.

Anyway, lets hope they get their act together and broadcast this thing in the UK. Without doubt one of the most astonishing musical performances I’ve ever seen.

  • everyone deserves music

left-wing brainwashing, right-wing brainwashing, they go hand in hand.

*** world service, which is such a vital source of relatively unbiased news for millions of people subject to censorship and oppression ***

    unbiased news: good
    censorship and oppression: not good
over sensationalized made-up realities: not good

  • Daniau

I agree on all counts. If I suggested that censorship or oppression was in any way good then I certainly didn’t mean to.

I don’t think BBC news is sensationalized particularly. Its not perfect, but compared to Fox news in the US and all the tabloid press in Britain its drier than the fucking gobi.

  • everyone deserves music

Sorry, if my statement has caused some confusion. My statement applied to general practice of all press and news medias, not targeting BBC. I wholehearted agree with you about BBC, in general, they really put out quality programs.

    love & peace

    :-)

  • everyone deserves music

    *** the fucking gobi ***

may i ask what “gobi” refers to here?

  • nodata

BBC is fighting a lost war. You cannot win against the internet in this age.

  • Daniau

    I mean’t the desert.

I think there’ll always be some form of broadcasting – TV does need to evolve though I agree.

  • everyone deserves music

    ohh… i get it. :D

  • Daniau

    :)

  • Eme

Well “on demand” TV will be the future, that is the way it will go I think.

Hopefully we leave streaming TV. That we can do without until it’s seemless which is years away.

I don’t think it will be a combined TV and Computer either, TV just needs to incorporate the immediate access and personalisation that every other media entertainment device has.

I imagine a daily release of a batch of programs available for a month for playing & download would be a good way of doing it. You still have to wait for the programs but instead of waiting for it to come on you can watch anything you like from that days schedule when you want to.

    Done.

Oh and the TKOL from the basement is quite good.

  • everyone deserves music

deserts lands always fascinate me…, i don’t know what it is, maybe the wilderness, eeriness, the vastness that can swallow me whole…, that sheer power make me feel puny and humble…., just rambling. :-)

  • Daniau

    Eme

    I don’t think you’re far off there.

  • Bert Werk

Such a great session. Radiohead should consider giving this an official release.
