Radiohead currently discussing more live appearances

Radiohead are currently talking about doing more live shows following their surprise Glastonbury appearance.

Drummer Philip Selway spoke with BBC 6Music about his solo work. A new EP is out this week. Philip also talked about Radiohead’s plans. When asked if Radiohead wanted to do more live shows after their Park Stage Glastonbury show he answered: “Oh yeah, absolutely. That’s what we’re talking about at the moment. And hopefully we’ll have some plans to talk about at some point.”

“It felt exciting doing that,” commenting on the Glastonbury appearance. “We had something different to offer musically on top of what we done in the past. It just felt like a new lease of life in what we are doing, and we would like to see where that takes us.”

Radiohead news on this day..

  • venk

    giddy up!!

  • aperturius

Perhaps this is just me, but I hope that they’re able to tighten up live performances of songs like Little By Little, Magpie, and Separator, which still feel very rough (and not in a good way). Especially Little By Little.

Why, why, WHY wasn’t The Daily Mail on TKOL? It’s my favorite RH song right now!!!

  • brttrdmkr

Perhaps this is just me, but I hope they do only 2 songs from TKOL on their tour. The rest can be from their previous recordings with a couple of juicy B-sides.

  • Xander Lewis Townshend

I’d rather they work on new material but them doing shows is still cool. Good to see they’re enjoying being together again.

Still though, this remix series is phailure on epico.

  • venk

@ aperturius…agree with magpie and Separator but not little by little. I think the glastonbury version of that was great. I’ve seen a ton of live radiohead shows and their live songs continuously evolve. (i.e. 2003, 2006, 2008-09 versions of ‘there there’, ‘climbing up the walls’, 2006 vs 2008-09 of ‘bodysnatchers’ and bangers n mash)

Also gear, from what I saw with the 2011 glastonbury show, looked like they brought either less or different gear, compared to their blow out tours….i might be wrong (no pun intended)

  • venk

@ brttrdmkr….TKOL is only 8 songs, if they have a ‘normal tour show’ you figure a 2-2.5 hour set with 20 plus song setlist. Looks like alotta room for everything else to me!!! I’ll just be happy if they decide to fly across the pond and play over here in the states. Who cares what they play. It will all be good!!

I really noticed the older songs they played had a burst of a energy, and I think that’s what Phil was saying. Basically they’re applying this new life of the band to their past work – - -

  • what i be

**** I really noticed the older songs they played had a burst of a energy, and I think that’s what Phil was saying. Basically they’re applying this new life of the band to their past work – – - ****

hahaha…. that’s being very nice and diplomatic, let’s put it in plain words, it’s called “mid-life crisis”.

    :D

  • locke

not to sound like an asskisser of this band… well f that. i’ll admit it. i am. regardless of how you feel about TKOL, be grateful that they are still together, still touring, still willing to put in the passion and energy to be exciting. not much else out there in today’s musical landscape that is exciting.

i’d give my left nut to see them again in an intimiate venue a la 2006 before In Rainbows. i feel it in my bones that they’ll do another small venue tour showcasing TKOL, some unreleased stuff that will form the basis of a new LP or EP and of course, the back catalog which crushes any other band’s catalogue in the last 30 years. absolutely crushes…

  • Honky_D

@ locke I agree with you completely. They should do whatever keeps them happy & inspired, I’ll go see them play in any case. All I want Radiohead to do is whatever they feel they need to in order to stay together, stay vital & continue to bring us the great live shows they’ve been bringing us. If fewer people want to see TKOL live that’s fine by me, maybe it’ll be a little easier to get tickets next time around ;)

  • Mike

I saw them in Boston in 2008, they played In rainbows in full, like 3/4ths of Kid A (though no Morning Bell, sadly), and a few of my favorite OK computer songs, and it was incredible, so the fact that they are preparing a tour is really exciting. As much as I enjoyed In Rainbows, the TKOL from the basement show blew my mind, I crave to hear Bloom, Feral, and MMM live, and it made me actually like Little by Little much more than the album. As long as they continue to play, say three or four of their 90′s songs with their concerts, I am happy. Even in 2011 they still broke out street spirit, so probably no worries there :)

  • please excuse me

I don’t know how Radiohead managed to appeal to a wide range age group of fans, just unbelievable…

  • light

It’s been a hot and stormy summer – the beauty of mother nature, who knows what tomorrow brings, we can only cope. Let’s all enjoy today, even they are turbulent climate….as long as people love.

    :-)

  • knivesout

I’m sure all of TKOL will be perforemed along with some of the remixs, and mainly In Rainbows and a few clasics..

  • KingofLimbsInRainbows

What @ locke said and also Honky D! ;-)

KOL live is amazing! \o/ Tourpleasesoonthankyou!!!

  • Xian

TKOL songs seem really complex to play, in ‘Little By Little’, for example, Thom can’t sing the chorus the same as the album. However, it will be exciting to see them live again.

  • Xian

Anyway, my point was that if they decided to tour and play only the new songs, that would not be a problem for me at all.

  • Harold

    YES!!!!!!!!!

  • Muldfeld

Don’t tour, Radiohead. Finish lots of more studio material — enough for a 56 minute high quality album and then consider forgetting touring, so you can make another, but I guess you could if you want….

You start touring now and we’ll never get more music out of you before year’s end.

  • Muldfeld

@locke, no matter how small the venue, dipshit losers still manage to get in. Drunken frat boys and dumb girlfriends more interested in being hip, so they never shut up during the music. That’s why I don’t care much if the band tours and prefer recorded footage a la From the Basement — because audiences aren’t respectful enough. And, beyond that, there’s all that annoying holding up glaring cell phones to capture crappy footage.

  • Nhill

I agree to a certain extent with you Muldfield with regards to the idiots who cant shut up at a concert, although there are many Radiohead fans who go to a concert, and expect evertbody around them to shut up, not move, fart etc…not evn allow themsleves the luxury of a pint or two!

I speak from experience, went to Victoria Park gig in 2008, great show, just ruined by the fact id had more fun at a funeral wake some years earlier, crowd were a bunch of boring ‘enjoy the smell of their own farts’ type! or at least where we were!

  • Amnesiac What?

They are not going to tour. They will play a few places here and a few places there. They would have to bring all that drum equipment. A true bummer.

Stay home PLEASE. Relax and write some new material.

  • http://www.fakeplastictunes.com Fake Plastic Tunes

I am a believer in a tour in the works. I don’t think they will rush into anything but I do believe they will announce a tour in due time.

Maybe announce a tour and have a new Newspaper to promote the tour in all the major cities.

  • venk

@ Muldfield…I’m not sure about that. You are right that idiots attend their shows but all of us Radiohead fans can block that out.

  • Kid Amnesiac

yawwwwn, b-b-b-borrrrrriiiinnnggg. forget touring with this old news and bring on more remixes! never enough! keep remixing til they’re remixes of remixes! hundreds of remixes on millions of vinyl releases! make millions of millions!

  • Please could you stop the noise

@ Kid Amnesiac ha ha ha. They should do a remix tour too get all these people who are excellent at speeding up and slowing down music to tour with them so we can hear all the songs endlessly repeated with faster and slower tempos with the occasional sound effect thrown in.
Good news on a possible tour though maybe the remixes are designed to make the actual live show sound fantastic our ears will be so used to low grade remix standard the real deal will be mind blowing

  • locke

litte by little FTB version is awe inspiring. i want to hear that live. i want to hear the evolution that the music inevitably goes through when played live a bunch of times. and yes, of course i want new music. i think we will get all of that. one way or another. these guys have found a new groove. phil said so hisself.

    by hook or by crook.

  • locke

PS: i’ll chop an a-hole in his/her throat if they get out ofhand at a show. i’m all for drinking, dancing, cheering, etc. but there is a limit. why not designate myself the righteous hand of vengeance and strike down those who f*ck with the groove.

if only i could get elected to the house of reps. then i’d really have an opportunity to crack some skulls and dish out some just deserts.

  • Injektilo – MTL

They’ll probably tour in between Portishead dates to be as “Carbon Neutral” effective as possible… with Clive and all… right?

This mean Radiohead will play in Montréal on October 8th 2011! Who’s gonna be at the show?

  • Please could you stop the noise

I’ve spent all my money on lady gaga shows I won’t be able to afford radiohead shows

  • Please could you stop the noise

i know most of you are joking , and i know most of you are probably kids that wouldn t understand this , and i know most of you are close minded pablo honey older fans , but , but , but . . . have you ever tried to be nice to each other , have you ever tried to find the positive things in blogs , have you ever tried ? i mean . . . . . in a world horrible world sometimes [ and sadly most of the time ] of rude people , of crazy human beings killing non stop each other , etc etc etc ,it is very very cool not to be like that , and be different and polite and positive , just different to most of the humanity who are already the opposite to being cool . i know , you will make fun of this , but if 1 and only 1 think about it , i will already feel i am winning this battle against the rude world .

  • WEIRDFISH76NW

…I am, and have been, a huge fan of Radiohead for years ..and years and years. With each passing year I notice, more and more …and more, that these “fans” that complain that they need to do this ….or they need to do that …..well ….they aren’t fans at all. Do the real fans a favor and be quiet.

  • your name here + pntrs + P + me + you sometimes

@weirdfish76nw : i dont think real fans would even care about all these stupidity people write in here . i personally care but about them but as human beings , since is very sad they are like that . but who cares about them talking about radiohead , as a fan it doesn t really affect me at all , and I AM 100 % SURE RD obviously dont care either , probably [ and almost sure ] RD never read this , and as TY once said , [on unofficial Radiohead sites] :

“They certainly seem to be writing my lyrics for me; if I’m ever stuck for an idea I go and read them.”

  • WEIRDFISH76NW

@ a sincere Rh fan: Me Too, but not before I eat a dick like that genius “Please could you stop the noise” told me to, because, apparently, said person is utterly brilliant using such a wise comeback…I am just curious …are “your name here + pntrs + P + me + you sometimes” and myself supposed to eat two dicks each or just one each. I need clarity “Please could you stop the noise” because I have now decided that you are much wiser than myself, and am now a mega-fan of YOU instead of Radiohead.
