Radiohead to play Saturday Night Live next month

Well this is a bit unexpected. TV by the Numbers is reporting that Radiohead will be the musical guest on Saturday Night Live’s season premiere on September 24. The episode, hosted by the hilarious Alec Baldwin, will mark Radiohead’s second appearance on the show, the first coming back in October of 2000 when the band played SNL to promote the release of Kid A. I may be biased but that appearance was one of the most memorable musical performances I’ve ever seen on the show. I’d embed a video of that but NBC has managed to scrub those videos every time they appear on YouTube.

Anyway, something to look forward to next month. Now, let the tour rumour mill kick into high gear in the comments…

    screw the DJ set – I want a live show!! When they played SNL in 2000, they ended up playing 1 of 4 North American shows for KID A at Roseland Ballroom in NYC. I camped out for tickets and my then girlfriend snuck us backstage after the show. One of my happiest moments….

    I got all kinds of shivers watching that snl show. It’s like they put the scariest sounds in for idioteque…I’ve never heard it sound like that during the break haha, that’s awesome. ahhhhhhh that’s so great they’re going on snl again I will be up watching that

    I’m sooo… soooo…. crazy about Radiohead, but they are soooo… sooo…. far away, they are unreachable, invisible, illusive….., they are not going on tour soon, so i guess the only way to feel close to them for now, is to listen to their music, including their “covers”…..

    I looked again at SNL’s website and still don’t see anything about Radiohead being on the premiere episode. All it mentions is Alec Baldwin. Could this all just be a big tease?
