Liam Gallagher accuses Radiohead of copying the Beatles

Wooohooo. We love those emails with Gallagher and Radiohead in the subject line. So, here’s the 523rd installment of ‘A Gallagher brother on Radiohead’.

This time it’s Liam Gallagher, you know from Oasis, and now Beady Eye. Liam did not really get why people are into Radiohead and told Q Magazine: “I mean we’ve all written songs like Creep, y’know, them classic songs. Karma Police is alright, but it’s The Beatles, innit?” he said.

Luckily, the Gallaghers never made music sounding like the Beatles. You may wonder, who are those Beatles anyway? Here’s a tune for you:

That’s like saying Tool copies Elvis Presley. What an idiot.

  • http://sexloveliberation.com Ev`Yan

    He’s just jealous.

  • Xiuxiuxiu

Keep it up, Liam, keep it up. A few more of these outburst and we can all expect a coffee table edition of The Gallaghers on Radiohead book of quotes.

  • Jaime

Haha you should put “The beat goes on” by Beady Eye, instead. That’s a Beatles pastiche if I ever heard one.

  • Hell-Punk

Well there’s the obvious irony of the statement. Secondly you gotta ask, who hasn’t been influenced by the Beatles? (Read: Not Bases entire sound on) Thirdly, “The Beatles” sounding part of the song is really only a fraction of Karma Police. lol at envy.

  • music addict

Maybe Liam Gallagher should buy the copyright of “How to disappear completely” from Radiohead. :D

  • garry

he is right like, they just copied sexy sadie

  • Uriel

so what has he been doing in his entire career?

  • Bou_ke

I don’t like the guy but he’s got a point. There are quite a few progressions from Sexy Sadie in Karma Police.

I prefer any Radiohead song over an Oasis song though. And I love the Beatles too..

  • Name

OH I’d love that coffee table book! I just saw the headline of the news and new this would make me laugh again! :-) Keep it coming, Liam!

  • myself

Must be though knowing every single tune he has ever done is just a poor Beatles rip-off.

  • Eme

    Haha awesome!!

  • Lori

Yeah, just like The Beatles, they were a great band for about 10 years, then internal fighting broke them up. Oh, wait a minute, that’s Oasis. The only way the Gallaghers get press is to slag off Radiohead.

  • Mike

I remember that really experimental Beatles album. You know that one where they played with loops and playing with the speed of songs and experimental instrumentation. You know the one I’m on about.

    Kid A/Revolver

  • myself

@Lori Yeah, except for the great band part, you’re correct, they managed to be pretty original from Beatles on that one.

  • MG

But OK Computer came out in 1997…

    It’s 2011, Liam..

  • Milo

Lori, I love you!!! you’re freakin’ right!!!
Like Coldplay’s Chris Martin says long time ago: “We’re like an eager dog just yapping around their heels, and
they’re trying to kick us away. It’s like unrequited love.
I’m in love with a lot of things. Some of those things love me back.
And some of them don’t — and one of them is Radiohead”

Gallaghers or Martin wants to be a real band… they dont have it, so, need to be anround a real one.

    That’s a complex!!

  • John

Priceless, but was this really newsworthy?

  • Muldfeld

Doesn’t Oasis sound like a dickheaded, thuggish, dumb Beatles if there ever were one? It still pisses me off that Oasis got so much fame when Pulp and obviously Radiohead were so much better. Why didn’t Mogwai make a “Oasis is Shite” t-shirt instead of picking on Blur?

  • stefano

liam makes me laugh so hard, dude…. he’s just…. awesome, thanks for being such a clown liam!!!!!!!! :D

  • performingmonkey

Yeah, the piano does ‘rip off’ Sexy Sadie, and at least Liam has noticed that….but every single note he records is an attempt to sound like Lennon!

  • true fan

oh… i don’t know….., i think Radiohead’s commitment in NY and 2012 tours enough to show their love for their fans.

  • Neal

Funny, from the most generic rock music makin’ fool around. The Gallagher portfolio is more monotonous than AC/DC. But at least the latter has more energy at 60-years-old than Oasis in their prime!

  • astraljose

god, why do people care what he says? you’re playing right into the hands of their publicity agents. it’s pretty much the only way they get written about because their music is lacklustre. and you, by posting a link to his music, have done exactly that, promoted their music because they “dissed” radiohead. i know this is a fan site and people wanna know all things radiohead but c’mon.

  • Chris

That’s so silly… he said “innit”!

  • AC/DC fans

hey, Radiohead fans, you might think AC/DC makes fool around music, but we take them seriously, so please…..

  • Imnotashark

Liam Gallagher – Trolling Radiohead fans since 1993

  • kyosti

We’re sorry AC/DC fans. We’ll be more respectful for now on.

  • The Deli

Let me make a few things clear…

    1) Liam Gallager is a huge douche with 1/10 musical ability of any Radiohead member.

    2) Radiohead is a totally unique and creative band.

However, it can’t be overlooked. The verse to Sexy Sadie is definitley used as a chrous to Karma Police. Different vocals, different feel, but the chords and piano part are definitley similar. Not the same, but very similar

  • Thom

    hahahahahahahaha. what a joke!

  • Andrew

I’m a HUGE Lennon fan and consider that man one of the true geniuses of music…that being said…”the roller” is such a laughable piss poor Lennon rip that it actually made me laugh out loud…and vomit a little in my mouth…I will now go listen to “instant karma” to wash out the rancid taste in the back of my throat lmao IT SHOULD BE ILLEGAL TO RIP OFF OF JOHN LENNON! lmao

  • Andrew

If Lennon was the walrus that makes Liam what? The platypus? Lmao :-P

  • Rome

This is just classic Liam Gallagher. This is why music news magazines love to hear his opinion because its usually debatable or controversial. He just spouts bollocks that’s on his mind, even if it doesn’t make sense. He is really a nice bloke, he’s just not into Radiohead.

  • Liam If You Got ‘Em

Liam should realize that he rode coattails his whole career, his brother will end up running laps around him musically, and (for fuck’s sake) even tone-deaf Ian Brown figured it out once or twice an album. My god – if Liam ends up being rated as a second-rate solo Ian Brown I think most of us would call that a success.

Doesn’t that tell you somethin’ Liam?

Go put on per pants and shaddup.

  • Beefcake

If I keep saying the name Radiohead people will start listening too me again right? Yes?…..hello?

  • AC/DC fan

    @ kyosti

I sincerely appreciate that, I mean it. =)

  • true fan

Radiohead: we sold less record, but made more money.
Colbert: so…, you guys are motivated by greed, right?

    Got u, Radiohead…. classic!

    Colbert is awesome!

    :D

  • wasup

haha….. hardcore Radiohead fans would be watching Colbert on vinyls… hehe….. xD

  • dustin

daily mail, bloom, little by little= set list.

bloom was so retarded that it rivaled “national anthem” SNL performance and “glasshouse” jools holland performance. wow. daily mail sounded clean and great. little by little appears a little worked on for live version. was hoping for Codex.

Also, it appears that no one in Radiohead was truly briefed on Colbert’s ‘character’ YESSSSSSS

they just started to play National Anthem!!!!! WTF?!! yes!!

  • dustin

    colbert.com for more songs/performances. word.

  • wasup

**** bloom was so retarded ***

Still 1000 times better that Lost Flower. :D

  • kyosti/killedbyghosts

So…I’m trying to find this exclusive web performance…but no luck…I’ve got an American proxy on, but it doesn’t help if I can’t find the video – - -!

  • lala

    Radiohead was very cooool……..

  • dustin

retarded as in retardedly good and amazing. goosebumps, laughter and looking around the empty room to make sure the people that weren’t there were seeing what I was seeing. still, the band seems awkward in interviews and clive makes them all appear ten years older.

NY shows will probably reveal some great new stuff. Ha. The National Anthem live on the Colbert Report??!! I suppose tomorrow Jonny will perform my school’s pledge of allegiance on the ondes. live.

This is one happy teacher that gladly stayed up tonight!!!

  • Name

    thom hate dr. paper

  • dang

i love how Rh doesn’t feed Colbert’s smart ass, trolling character…, but they are all awesome badasses!! :D

  • wasup

haha…… that’s right, Colbert is trying to instigate Rh, hoping Rh will say something stupid back to him, nope, Rh remained very cool…..

maybe this is just me, but at times i don’t think Rh gets Colbert’s humor either, they are like, umm…. should i laugh or maybe not? only Johnny gets it, i saw Johnny was cracking up…. :D

  • Andrew

Thom was cracking up to I loved how he didn’t even know how old he was! “how old am I?” “I’m 42 right?” lmao CLASSIC! I suppose his Bono comment will be more fuel to the “thom is a diva like Bono” crazy shit! Lol really good performances all around..I think maybe they used SNL and Colbert to iron out some kinks and shake off some stage rust…again it was a fantastic performance and the interview had me grinning from ear to ear the entire time but I feel like there still trying to figure out the best way to play TKOL songs live…and tonight was evidence of great improvement! This tour is gonna be something special :->

  • kyosti/killedbyghosts

it was so good. It’s funny how people assume that their favourite band is going downhill because they thought they played one flawed performance. But they soon forget about it don’t they?

  • Andrew

Yes they do! The Internet is a breeding ground for bitching! Lol it warmed my heart how good they were tonight and how much fin it looked like they were having! So much for that “the band has lost it’s chemistry” silly argument lol

  • Andrew

    Fun*

  • Andrew

It’s so reassuring to see thom all smiley and seemingly more confident then he ever has been! THIS ISN’T A BAND ON THE DOWNSLIDE! this is a band that seemingly has an endless amount of fuel in the tank still! TKOL is a fantastic album that slowly gets under your skin if you can stop listening to it with such a critical ear and just relax and FEEL the music…for all those that feel butthurt by what there doing…all I can say is you should of learned your lesson long before now…anyone should know by now that preconceived notions related to Radiohead will always leave you hurt in the end because there NEVER going to do what you want them to…there gonna do whatever is inspiring to THEM…I look at TKOL as a planted seed that will grow into a huge beautiful tree in the future…I don’t think it was meant to be a full fledged Radiohead transformation I think its the ground work…the foundation of what’s to come and the direction they wanna take things. I’m anxious to see where this new found confidence will take them. In the meantime I’m gonna listen to the soothing hypnotic sounds of TKOL and soak in all the tranquil details that hide just beneath it’s surface…and then “lose my shit!” when Atoms For Peace drops there album! So excited for that! Again I don’t wanna fall victim to preconceived notions but I can’t help but feel this album will be a masterpiece! After that? I’m gonna hope and pray and cross all my fingers and toes for a Radiohead album that comes sooner rather then later…but hey it doesn’t really matter because like all Radiohead albums it will come when it’s ready…and I wouldn’t want it any other way :->

  • Kev

    Pot.

    Kettle.

    Twat.

  • Andrew

    Huh? Lol

  • Bou_ke

well, this is so much better than the snl performance. it seems the chemistry is back, they sound great and i don’t remember which fool commented on “the extra drummer” but he’s definately adding up to the KOL sound and I’m very glad I saw him last summer with Portishead.

Hope to see him soon with Radiohead in the Netherlands…

  • reverse engines

    please stop reporting this crap

Lol! they’re good value they know they rile up rh fans with this tripe! I just don’t understand why he feels he is in the same kind of company as radiohead; they have a totally different fanbase.

  • pretentious electronica fan

Should be reporting on how Radiohead dominated at the Colbert Report. After a somewhat weak showing at SNL there was no flaw to be seen last night. The Gallaghers haven’t mattered since the mid 90s, at least in the US.

  • http://leonardoflores.webs.tl davinci

its funny how this is the only way he can make us talk about him, not even about his music, ive never heard someone talking good about liam`s music… well, a bunch of stupid teen girls maybe.

  • Flanela

hahahaha Oh Liam… you’re so funny! Whenever I see news about one of the Oasis brothers on atease, I start laughing, without even reading it. I just know it will make my day… ;)

Is there an Oasis tune that doesn’t sound like The Beatles, btw???

  • A Rat’s Nest

He’s quite right that karma police is very similar to “Sexy Sadie” by The Beatles, but I’m sure its an intentional reference by Radiohead. Whereas Oasis have ripped off so many Beatles/Wings/John Lennon songs its unbelievable! Such a hypocrite.

  • AEK

Everyone know Oasis > Radiohead, and even if you say it is nonsense, you know you are lying.

  • Jake

AEK, if you,re going to support Oasis on a Radiohead enthusiast website, take your comments elsewhere. No one wants to read them.

And for Liam Gallagher to make an accusation that as false as this one to give himself some credit and a little attention is quite depressing. Obviously some on is jealous of Radiohead’s fame and wants a little of it. Haha now I’m rambling…

    Radiohead > anything
