Radiohead return to recording studio this winter, on and off live shows to follow

Radiohead are heading back to the studio this winter to record new material. And Thom Yorke drops a new song tile, Come To Your Senses.

Thom Yorke was interviewed by Rolling Stone, just before Radiohead’s Roseland Ballroom shows two weeks ago. Thom spoke about bringing the studio album to live on stage, with additional drummer Clive Deamer: “It was the same thing with Kid A – the studio was this process, then you bring it to life,” Yorke says of the delay in bringing The King of Limbs to the stage. “In ‘Bloom,’ when Clive goes from the electro pads to the live kit, and my guitar shoots up an octave, I’m like, ‘Wow!’ When we came up with that, it was like, ‘OK, we got it.’”

Radiohead could squeeze in only three concerts this year – the Roseland dates and a surprise set in June at Britain’s Glastonbury Festival – because Deamer is also on the road with Portishead. “He wasn’t available,” says Chris Hufford, one of Radiohead’s managers, “and it’s why we couldn’t go out on tour until next year.”

“It will be sort of on and off, with big gaps,” Yorke says of the probable schedule, then grins reassuringly. “But not that big.”

Radiohead are returning to the this winter. They will work on new material at their recording space in Oxford, England, in December and January. “We can get things together quite rapidly at the moment,” Yorke says brightly. He mentions one song, “Come to Your Senses.” “We have this version of it. It’s a five-minute rehearsal, but it has the essence of what we need.

“There are a few of those,” he adds. “It would be fun to have them ready when we go to play next year. I don’t know how we would release them.” Yorke smiles hopefully. “It would be nice to make it all part of the flow and just enjoy it – not think about it too much.”

  • Amnesiac What?

With time span that Radiohead gives enlightenment of recording songs and when they actually appear are years in the making.

To say they are recording in December and January, from the history of Radiohead, means we will hear them sometime June of 2013!!!

The Atoms for Peace album is exciting to hear. Plus, new songs from Radiohead “whenever in a distant future” seems promising though……

  • same ol’

he says this stuff all the time. we have new songs, we don’t know how we’re going to release them, blah, blah, blah…and it all ends up pretty much being the same in the end…a long wait for a conventional style album. why is he so content on consistently trying to downplay the LP concept when he knows they’ll keep going back to it? the best part of this article is knowing that TKOL stuff will get limited time on playlists for future tours if Clive isn’t permanently involved.

  • Josh

When I read this and the Atoms for peace news my face became a permanent :O. YAY

  • Amnesiac What?

    Well put Josh… Well put.

  • IntheBellyofaWhale

    Such good news!!

  • Chunter

Christ, if Radiohead are dredging up five year old shite like “Come To Your Senses” they really are screwed.

@Same ‘ol: You’re absolutely right. It’s like the old “we’d really love to do lots of EPs instead of another album” thing… this went on for years and they never did it!

Also, never listen to a fucking thing Ed says in advance of an album: “it’s the best thing we’ve ever done” has been his mantra from Amnesiac onwards (which he later admitted he hated). He even said this about TKOL!

See you in four years guys, when I’m approaching 40 & you’re all heading for the big 5-0. “Come To Your Senses” will be about 15 years old then and will be just as shite.

    CHunter-

You just have to ruin good news for the people that see it as good news dont you. Go find another blog and bitch… what a peice…

**** the best part of this article is knowing that TKOL stuff will get limited time on playlists for future tours if Clive isn’t permanently involved ****

What?? Their coming tour is all about promoting TKoL, mind you.

  • Vyada

DAMN STRAIGHT. They’ve been making good music this whole time! In Rainbows was goddamn amazing, and TKOL was pretty good. If they want to release older songs, i’m fucking glad as hell.

  • Sarah Jane

    @Vyada…. A-freaking-men! I’m so excited!

  • waiting 5+years for a good rh record

I just want them to get over this whole awful “melody is dead, rhythm is everything” phase they’re going through as fast as possible so we can finally get some decent music coming from them.

  • Think…le

@waiting 5+years for a good rh record – open up your ears Jackass. In Rainbow was arguably one of their best albums and TKOL while short was good. I love that they subsequently came out with Super Collider and The butcher. Both great songs as well.

I for one am looking forward to whatever they put it. Its so refreshing after hearing the same top 40 crap the radio plays.

  • ecoteat

waiting, have you even listened to TKOL? How can you say melody is dead? There are some gorgeous pieces to that album.

  • Classic material

    come to your senses

  • http://plagueofangels.blogspot.com Joe Gillis

@waiting, I agree with you partially. But I thought In Rainabows was brilliant and mixed their older and newer styles very well. And their “warmest” record since The Bends.

TKOL, on the hand, leaves me cold (though “Lotus Flower” and “Codex” both feature gorgeous melodies).

Can’t really say that I’ve liked ANY of the songs they’ve released since. Dupstep, or chillwave, or whatever these genres the band are into these days just aren’t my thing.

Would love to see the next album combine their electronic/rhythmic impulses with some of that old “build to climax” upswing or sudden, unexpected, & brilliant bridge. But hey, that’s just me…

SHOCKER: Radiohead bringing back material written years ago to work on for new album.

They have been doing this for the past decade, to stunning success, jackass (see: Nude)
