Video Interview: Thom Yorke & 3D (Massive Attack)

Thom Yorke and Massive Attack’s 3D DJ’ed the other day for London’s Occupy Protesters. They did one interiew on the roof of the UBS building.

After their DJ sets this week, 3D and Thom Yorke talked about the Occupy Movement. Thom: “The banks took the money that was supposed to keep us safe and robbed it and then said it was some kind of act of god. There are people who are responsible and they’re not being held to account. (…) If I was Prime Minister of this country, I would be wondering how I was going to keep this anger at bay, because the anger’s going to get worse. They’re siding with the wrong people. You cannot keep going with the current system”.

  • Smother

    Thom for PM

  • Vie

Thom has a ponytail. That’s amazing.

Anyway, on to more pertinent topics, I love that they did this, good people supporting a good cause.

And Thom makes some scarily good points…

  • Boris

I actually watched part of Inside Job (the documentary that Thom talks about) as a part of my degree in Philosophy and Politics. I’d recommend it to anyone as it’s fantastic.

Props to 3D as well, thoroughly nice chap when I met him and he’s a very astute man and makes some good points.

  • Boris

when I say ‘part’ I actually meant ‘all’…
I don’t mean that in a snobby way at all, I just think you should watch all of it to get a scope of how messed up things are. Keep an eye out for the eurozone too people…be wary.

anyone has a link to the set thomas edward played?

    i wish to hear it.

  • Harold

yes me to, the fragments we hear sound great!!

  • Amnesiac What?

I hope Thom realizes that carbon credits are from the same thieves that stole your countries money as well.
    ITS ALL A RACKET!!!
WE THE PEOPLE will overcome this.
We have the greatest weapon…. Love.
    We have each other.

  • Amnesiac What?

Just finished watching Inside Job. Its the movie Thom Yorke mentioned in this interview.
Great film and explains a lot.
Just remember its not the Americans that are in on this.
Its the crooks. There’s a difference.
Remember…. Nobody cares about your wealth.
    People need people.
I’m glad that I have all of you…….

  • aw

    I love you ;)

  • Si

I agree its a worthy cause, and heart is in right place but there are a few points really grate with me

1 – Its very easy for thom and 3d to go on about the ‘people’ when they have exploited capitalism, hence the banking system that is incorporated within it, and have earned millions in doing so

2 – Because you see one film does not make you an expert in economics

3 – If people think having a campsite in the middle of London is going to change the banking system, then i really feel sorry for them…the words cuckoo and land spring to mind.

    Expecting abuse

    Love thirded

  • sara

    LOVE ALL!
    LOVE YOU ALL!

  • bou_ke

I’m sorry to admit but I agree partially with Si..

I watched the occupy movement in the Netherlands. And though I sympathise with the ideas, I don’t want to see these people in charge either..

Things need to change (drastically) and I prefer peacefull protest above anything. But I can’t see a solution in this yet..

Maybe it’s naive but when I hear most of the academics in the Netherlands, I think there’s some hope still.. It’s the people in charge, not the people with actual knowledge that we need to fear. Most scientist who actually (seem to) understand global economics and environmental issues, are pointing in the right direction all te time.

It’s our generation that needs to start listening instead of choosing a new outfit, phone and tickets for the right parties and holidays. AT least that’s my humble opinion.

  • Happier06

I agree with both Si and bou_ke. But to be honnest, i don’t expect new generation completly rotted by Iphone, clothes and good looking values to do anyhting against something they don’t care about. It’s already too late, we just have to watch now.

  • Take the money and run!

I believe that it is the monetary system itself that creates inequality and thus soul destroying envy and self loathing, resulting in a sick society. Please read ‘The Spirit Level’ by Richard Wilkinson and Kate Pickett. Also, watch Zeitgeist: Moving Forward’ by Peter Joseph. Thanks.

  • Take the money and run!

Also to SI, I feel the need to reply to your post in a non ‘abusive’ tone contrary to what you were expecting regarding Thom and 3D ‘Exploiting capitalism and earning millions’; Maybe they have as much right as anyone to voice their concerns regardless of the amount of money made by them making and selling (life enriching in my opinion) music. The problem may lie with the system itself and not necessarily the lengths that people have to go to to survive having been born within it.
