Listen: Two Thom Yorke tracks: Stuck Together & Twist

Two Thom Yorke tracks have surfaced online. A new one and one slightly older: Stuck Together & Twist.

The tracks entitled Stuck Together & Twist were used for Rag & Bone’s show at Fashion Week in New York City last Fall. We’ve heard Twist before when Thom was guesting with a DJ set on Mary-Ann Hobbs’ XFM show back in September. Stuck Together surfaces for the first time.

    Shit songs

  • JD

They’re alright. Though tbh I HATE the start of twist. Thom just saying that for nearly 3 minutes gets annoying.
I’m not really expecting anything amazing though, after all, they were done for a fashion show…

thom is not a pretentious parody of everything he once was and stood for. this thom would hear ‘no surprises’ and turn to his prada-clad seatmate and wonder, ‘what’s wrong with the government? works for me.’ ‘you dont get the bends in first class mate, i dont relate to that song’. ‘blame it on black star mos def is a mate of mine, id never blame anything on him. and whats those guiats doing in there? rubbish.’

As my wife so aptly put, the Radiohead that blew back your hair & musical imagination is never coming back. The lead singer maybe the biggest proponent of it. Does this even constitute as music?

  • Faceao

your wife sounds like a right cunt

  • I’m over this crap

His wife is on the money Faceao. You just don’t have the balls to admit that this once great band has disappeared up their arses so far they now find themselves tickling their tonsils. I used to think that if Radiohead brought up a song which was nothing more than a 3 minutes wet fart, it would be met with critical acclaim on this website. Well, these two songs might just be Thom Yorke solo pieces, but it proves my point.

the 2nd track is some bomb ass techno, those that don’t like techno can fuck off plz

  • cooldude

Ok people, I don’t think Thom was exactly trying to out do Kid A or whatever when he made these. I imagine he experiments by himself a lot and gave a clothing company some music he thought some models could walk to.

  • neato

Sounds like “the wave” grew too complex and she fell off, I’m guessing kida timeframe.

Stuck Together is really beautiful. Hard for me to listen to Twist though.

You didn’t have to buy this, it wasn’t presented to you as the next great masterpiece. Dude recorded some songs and put them online. You talk like this is some giant let down, when you didn’t know these existed before you saw this story.

  • Janusz

Absolutelly love stuck together, I want more of this.

  • Birds

How dare the musician do what he wants! I think this is just experimentation.

Iiiiiiiii like it but I’m really into IDM anyway so this is really right up my alley- I can see why a rock fan wouldn’t like this too much. Whatever, Thom’s solo work has seriously always been like this.

  • biff

The way i look at it is whats the point RH or Thom doing the same old stuff time and time again as per Coldplay and all the other staduim crap out there? Okay KOL is a bit of a grower but in my opinion without a band like this music would be a massively poorer place. I’ll bet the band are on serious form on the new tour, cant wait.

  • Joe Gillis

Thom’s solo work has NOT always been like this. The Eraser was obviously electronic and “glitchy,” but it still featured much melody — and the songs, for the most part, did “move” from one place to another, as opposed to staying monochromatic and static.

I just hope Radiohead hasn’t lost their love of melody ENTIRELY, but I fear that Thom and Jonny find the old ways — maybe even In Rainbows — as “been there, done that.”

  • Chicken Switch

I think they’re both beautiful pieces, a whole new take on the glitchy sound-collages Thom has been experimenting with these past few years. Not mind-blowing, but certainly commendable. Looking forward to the new Atoms for Peace record.

  • Crazyed236

digging the second track a lot, sounds a bit like select ambient works

  • Pkillean

Go put on whatever recycled crap you enjoy and stfu. Thom is just as likely to write something brilliant on acoustic as he is on a laptop, and he passes it on for free. Why on earth are they forbidden to explore new territory. They have evolved into electronic music, and correctly so. It’s not them with the imagination problem. Its fn 2012 bro. You and your wife are officially old and out of it. You really gonna sit there an yell at thom to get off your lawn?

  • John Ponen

These two songs are very amateurish and down right suck. Thom Yorke always was/is pretentious and I don’t know why. Radiohead is nothing to write home about compared to bands like Jimi Hendrix, the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Dylan, Coltrane, Muddy Waters, even DMB. Radiohead’s level of mastery isn’t even close to these legends. Now, Radiohead has fallen off the cliff with this crap.

People seem so willing to make big judgments about music that are actually only relevant to their individual perspective. So these tracks don’t deliver what you conceptualize as what makes Radiohead great? How about we approach tracks on their own terms and listen to what they’re evoking rather than which of our preconceived expectations they’re failing to meet. Clearly making a hair-raising, climactic, anthemic song was not on the mission statement here.

Edit: oh and to anyone asking ‘if this even constitutes music’… There’s a whole universe to discover outside that box you’re in.

  • Guest

I have to agree; if these were being presented as a new single, I would be pissed off. They’re not, though. They’re being “presented” not at all; simply “leaked”, almost, as incidental music that’s been played publicly *once*. I don’t think it’s any basis to attack Radiohead.

  • Guest

here’s a poor , rather than appalling quality version of Stuck Together http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HmurNrsa-90

  • Joe Gillis

Fuck you, shithead. You are not nearly as cool as you think you are.

  • Kurticus

Yeah this isn’t Radiohead. Quit writing off Radiohead because Thom is doing solo stuff that you don’t like. No one got pissed at Radiohead when Selway did a folk album.

  • Paddy

Think ‘Stuck Together’ features on Thom’s BBC 6 Music ’6 Mix’ from October 16th 2011

  • Gimphunter

Twist is poo but I like Stuck Together. It held me interest for it’s duration anyway. I like the choice of sounds and I like the space in the production. I thought it was atmospheric. Yeah, of course it isn’t going to make anyone come in their pants, but for what it is, and FWIW, I think it is good.

    So fuck it.

  • Peter DeGuire

Hmmm……..what ever happened to ‘artistic expression?’

If you don’t like it, don’t listen!

  • KidAmnesiac

Did you hear any of Thom’s solo stuff a few years back? It’s not as though Radiohead is releasing new stuff. Personally, I love the homage he gives house music and the different UK flavors of techno (garage, actual dubstep, etc…). Also, the dub influence came out on “Pulled Apart”, as well as the layered drumming. True, calling everything that Radiohead touches “the greatest thing in history” is narrow minded, but you, in turn, are showing narrow-mindedness by dismissing everything Post-OK Computer. I love that these guys continue to explore…I can put any of the old stuff on repeat if I want to hear it again.

No, the band that “blew back YOUR hair” isn’t coming back. If they made those albums over and over, they wouldn’t amaze us anymore either. I’m not blown away by everything they do now, but they keep experimenting and moving forward. Furthermore we live in an era where EVERYBODY can share their words, songs, photos, etc… Seems to me that the individuals that comprise Radiohead are just embracing that idea and putting their new ideas on the table. Just because we put them (and their work) on a pedestal, they aren’t obliged to meet our expectations with everything they do. Polished and pristine albums now share a space with the ideas that led up to them and ones that didn’t make the cut. To me it’s fun to see their trajectory, both by the albums that have made up their career, and now the one-offs and side projects along that arc.

Exactly how educated does the Dance Music have to be before you consider it Intelligent? Just cuz I’m a huge fan of RFSDM (really fuckin stupid dance music) and I think of this as part of my elite genre. Maybe both?

  • Weird Fish

What I don’t understand is that so many people seem to die unless they can’t complain about something, liking something is always better then not liking something, it just feels better, right?
That’s the whole point of enjoying something to look at, listen to, relax with so if you don’t like it stay away from it because it wasn’t meant for you, stronger; your opinion doesn’t count since it has nothing to add and with that; who are you to judge?
On the other hand, liking something makes people happy so that’s a vibe worth sharing even if the ‘likers’ are unexperienced newbies who never heard of The Bends, fuck The Bends or whatever genius things that were, this is now and you take it or you leave it or at least get over it.
I love it and I didn’t think In Rainbows was better then TKOL, I just listened to it more often:)

  • In Every Direction

Thom really doesn’t have to prove himself anymore and hasn’t for a while. These songs are lackluster compared to his past solo projects; The Eraser, Hearing Damage, Ego, Mirror, etc. but what does it matter? He is experimenting, that is what Thom and Radiohead have done since The Bends. That is what has kept them relevant after two plus decades. You take the good with the bad and everyone’s opinion differs on what those two things are. I am just glad they didn’t listen to the ok computerers after Kid A.

  • jacob

i think you people need to get with times. ambient/experimental/electronic music like this is catching big! and radiohead have been making it since kid a! i don’t understand how all you ever want is the same thing. yes, ok computer was amazing. but they gained ten times more respect in my book when they put down their guitars for a computer and made the best album of all time KID A! that being said this is yorke’s solo music and not radiohead.

  • Bnwestbrook

You’ll never see Bono or the Gallaghers or Chris Martin or anyone else who had success doing one thing, doing something so different to their seminal work, and so different from anything anyone else is doing. Someone has to be making stuff that doesn’t have Rihanna on every fucking chorus…I thank God its Thom Yorke.

    Great new tracks.

  • Mmmm

Yep!! I always liked the mini pieces of music that he or they used in between songs in the Blips or Most Gigantic Lying Mouth videos – they all end up cool little songs themselves, or part of a bigger song (e.g. Cymbal Rush).

I think most people took these pieces too seriously and critically as if they were A side singles… although, that, in a way, is also Radiohead’s fault of releasing A or B sides once in a while without warning these days.

  • Ggpaters

Cymbal Rush is my favourite song of all time –Radiohead or Thom Yorke.

  • Ggpaters

    HAHA ok.

  • Ggpaters

Definitly. Have you heard the track with Modeselektor? “shipwreck”? love it!

  • MKULTRA

I JUST DONT GET OR UNDERSTAND WHY PEOLE LIKE THIS TECHNO GARBAGE
