  • Great show, I enjoyed the second night much more than the first. A real dream setlist – I’ve waited years to hear Airbag and Planet Telex. To also get Videotape and The National Anthem was a bonus. Crowd seemed livelier and the band in better mood.

  • I was there, bit of a crap seat but excellent gig, from my position I was dissapointed to see so many empty seats at a “sold out” concert, had I had the balls to move could of got a much better seat and I also counted 11 vip boxes completely empty and almost all off them being used only had a few people inside them, surely the 02 could release these seats rather than leave them empty, There There and Idioteque and Videotape was the highlight for me, the couple beside me did not have a good time (turned out he only realy knew Pablo Honey music) and left after a hour

  • They seemed thoroughly bored through Paranoid Android and Street Spirit though. I’d go so far as to say Paranoid Android was lacklustre.
Everything else and especially King Of Limbs and post release singles (with the exception of a sloppy ‘Morning Mr. Magpie’) was excellent.
Crowd seemed to tire, and were noticeably muted during less well known(?) stuff like ‘Staircase’ but ‘Identikit’ went down a storm to close.
    Overally, excellent.

    • That is the age old question though, those of you old enough will remember Nirvana going on to Johnathan Ross show and completely singing teen spirit in a monotone style because they were at breaking point over singing their old stuff, the fact remains the crowds strongest reaction came from their back catalogue, and if they feel fed up redoing it then they need to produce a stong current line up, I think most would agree the King of Limbs is not their strongest lineup

    • I always thought Kurt’s ego got the better of him there. I mean, I can understand Radiohead being bored of OK Computer etc – they’ve been playing tracks off that for 15 years at this point, but Nirvana had been touring Nevermind for what, a year or two, when they did that version (and wasn’t it TOTP?). I don’t think they even demoed it until late 1990/early 1991 in fact, so it was a year or less.
Love them though I did, even I thought they were becoming primadonnas at that point, even if it did make them seem cooler than they already were.
But, I have to say, Radiohead don’t have to keep playing ‘Paranoid Android’ and if they don’t like it, I don’t know why they do. They’ve got a host of songs they can throw in to keep an ‘old school’ crowd happy, so why do bored sounding versions of a song if you don’t like it? Perhaps because that’s all they rehearsed for this tour – that and 3 or 4 other old ones? I can’t imagine that’s the case, but otherwise why not surprise everyone and knock out something else if you don’t like it.
That and Street Spirit were the low points, so why do them?
The crowd seemed keen enough for ‘In Rainbows’ stuff, why not use more ‘old’ tracks from Kid A? Or knock out something from the Bends instead, keep it varied for yourselves?
it was far from bad, but I’d rather not have heard it personally, it’s not playing to the crowd if you don’t do it well.

  • 2nd night the band seemed the happiest i’ve ever seen them! crowd was a little still, but not through boredom. just that kinda crowd, i guess. i was one from the bar, slap bang in the center, and was probably my favourite time seeing them. Oh – and not mentioned above, they played (almost a full version of) true love waits as the intro into EIIRP.

Only low points for me was Airbag (felt a little stale for such a great song, and thom messed up the vocal a bit), Planet Telex (but only because previous performances i’ve been at had been better) and would have swapped street spirit perhaps for no surprises.

@69d88b9a4562284dfd6150cd61a94cc0:disqus they didn’t play Identikit last night… you thinking of Monday?

    • Idioteque, not Identikit. Apologies, mistyped.

Didn’t mean they weren’t cheerful in general, they certainly were up to Feral, which they nailed, but they then seemed to switch off and appeared to coast their way through Paranoid Android and the first encore was mixed. Crowd was very very still through staircase, give up the ghost and so on, so I’m not sure why we differ there.
Far from the worse crowd I’ve seen though, but they did start to flag when newer stuff came out in the encores.
Yes, airbag too seemed stale. I noticed it was all the older tracks that felt wayward, Mr. magpie suffered too though, that really was all over the shop.

    • what do you want the crowd to do during Give Up The Ghost?

  • I saw them last night, my first time seeing them live. I thought the set was great; I was glad they played so much from King of Limbs (great album but can see how some fans might be disappointed) and thrilled they played Weird Fishes/Arpeggi. Probably my favourite all time track! I wanted to dance (and in the end awkwardly did, but felt bothered about blocking people behind me and no, I don’t have a massive bum and I am of average height!) but everybody was sat down around me, mostly gazing at the stage with mesmerised expressions, others dancing as much as you can dance whilst sat down, and some looking plain confused….did they go to the wrong gig??? As somebody else mentioned, with so many seats not taken, how frustrating. The only tickets I could get were positioned at at the furthest and highest possible point in the arena. Next time I will only go if I can get standing…. Perhaps the 02 isn’t the best place??? Reading festival more my cup of tea I think!

    • I was block 402 high upand was desperate to dance, but everyone around me was sat down and I did not want to look out of place, I had the chance to buy a standing seat but did not risk it as I was driving from Norfolk and I felt if I was late I would be stuck at the back, as it was I got there at 5.45!! only hold up was the tunnel, so could of been right at the front if I was standing. learnt for next time.

  • I agree Street Spirit was a bit of a low – but Thom adding a venomous “fuckers” to Paranoid Android made it for me.
