Radiohead live in Sydney (Night 2) – Live Report

So just like night 1, I also attended night 2 at the Sydney Entertainment Centre. While I preferred night 1 (mostly due to some songs on the setlist I was dying to hear), night 2 was pretty special too. After seeing two shows this year with Bloom as the opener, it was cool to see the band open up with Lotus Flower; two very different songs to kick things off.

How To Disappear Completely was as stunning as ever and was one of five tracks played from Kid A (making up for just two songs off that record on night 1?). Kid A itself was played during the first encore and I really do love the arrangement of it this year. After the song Thom commented on the record company’s reaction to Kid A (the album); he laughed and said, “You should have seen the sweat on their faces.” The first encore ended with I Might Be Wrong and Street Spirit which seemed to really resonate with pretty much everyone inside the venue.

The final encore was notable for a of couple reasons. Firstly, the True Love Waits intro to EIIRP was quite long (two verses, two choruses), practically making it a song on its own. And then the band messed up the ending to Idioteque. As the song was reaching its climax, Thom was gesturing at Colin to restart the keyboard part but things never got synced up with Jonny’s beats. In the end Thom stopped trying to fix it and just finished the song. When it ended and the band were leaving the stage, Thom said, “Goodnight. We fucked up. It happens.” Then gave a big shrug. Kind of a funny ending to the evening.
